    Oh, I thought this was just as much about people who fans looking back, especially born years/decades after would be like THEY PLAYED FOR THAT TEAM” Not just players you’d rather forget were on the Mets, or had such little time and/or impact that you forgot their time in a Met uni. Ie Postseason and down the stretch performances put Tom Glavine and Max Scherzer on here. Back to what I thought was part of the point, Glavine and Snider are joined by Gary Sheffield in terms of iconic milestones managing to happen while the player is in a Met uni.

    I would be very interested in seeing the math on this. For what it is worth, the deal that sent alpha-Shawn Abner to San Diego included five Shawn Abners in total, and one turned out to be an MVP. FYI, here are the other three; Kevin Armstrong, never played in The Show Kevin Brown, hey maybe HE was the Kevin Brown that 1992 WFAN caller mongo thought was the guy breaking through in Texas that summer 🤔 LOL, probably not since he also never played in The Bigs, and the infamous caller that for some ****ing reason is still in my mind’s recesses knew a Kevin Brown (the one traded for Charlie O’Brien) had time in the majors. Stan Jefferson, Keith’s caddy when called up that September. Magadan was clearly ahead of him though.

The quip was followed with the explanation, which was then followed by “WHAT THE **** DOES THIS NONSENSE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING!?”

    It's funny to me that this trade isn't cited in any list of worst Mets trades of all time. Trading a future Hall of Famer for a washed up Carlos Baerga has to be up there. I think part of it is because it was so well received at the time, and it took us a while for us to realize how bad the trade was. Though in fairness, we should have known right away. Kent hit 29 HRS the year after the trade and never looked back. Stayed productive until almost 40 Baerga was washed up at 27. Craziness. True, but Alfonzo’s emergence, though at third not his usual second, did take the sting out of it. FWIW, I saw a journalist on BlueSky/Facebook remind followers of the domestic abuse injury that the “truck washing incident” was a cover story for. While I think that was as a Giant, not a Met, there is for sure more of a “bullet dodged” feeling with him that also overrides a ****** ass return for trading him.

    Yeah, I guess after reading, or listening to the audiobook, of Daybreak At Chavez Ravine, a bio on Fernando that really put forward a case of him being a “Johnny Appleseed” like figure for Latin America, and specifically the Mexican market as being enough to put him in, I thought there must be some groundswell of support from the “its the hall of FAME (ie notoriety should be as equal of a reason for induction as overall counting statistics)” and intangibles crowd. Then you had the Dodgers officially putting #34 in mothballs, which I took as a similar “GET WITH THE PROGRAM COOPERSTOWN” as with the number retirement ceremonies for Phil Rizzuto, Ron Santo and Dick Allen. Though obviously, sadly now it was pretty much “give him the Jim Gilliam treatment while he is completely able to fully take part in, and appreciate the honor, instead of AFTER his passing.”

    That was the allure of McFaddens, until it became tourist trap for sports bar loving fanboys. I can't imagine a brand of tourism that includes McFadden's. "We have come all the way from Topeka! From Glascow! From Seoul! But our time in New York will be for naught if we don't see McFadden's!" Confusing it with McSorley’s? FWIW, the Citi Field location was part of a sports bar expansion effort that included Philly, Pittsburgh, Nashville, etc. All, except for Pittsburgh shuttered around the time the original, by Grand Central in midtown Manhattan, abruptly closed. Tourist Trap was more along the lines of “oh, its a sports bar trying to be an “authentic Irish Tavern/Gastropub,” and its walking distance from the sports and performance venue arena(s)” Not necessarily in terms of the branding being “must go to this famous noted restaurant/club/bar/etc when in town.”
