I want to say early 1990's or late 1980's. Featured on the early years of Beverly Hills 90210 during the first Dylan-Brenda breakup episodes

I know, but a situation like right now is when the irrationals start parrotting things they didn't quite grasp during the offseason, and usually do it with unjustifiable arguments like "Did ya see how he shut us down yesterday! Wagner wouldn't have done that!"
  3. Can't wait for the first of the "We should have signed THAT GUY instead of OUR guy!" threads with Ryan vs Wagner!
  4. Note to self, post this in correct folder next time, and provide known links instead of asking community at the start of the thread! D'OH
  5. Thats Internet Fan Communities. Ehh, expect this hopefully sometime this summer, good for a pet project
  6. Roberts tied, on to Blyleven Bobby Mathews 297 Can not find another photo of the guy Tommy John 288 Bert Blyleven 287 Robin Roberts 286 Tom Glavine 286 Countdown to 300 T-14
  7. Nymr83 wrote: don't we have a special thread (or three) for beating up the Mets everytime Kazmir pitches? Wrong forum! You are talking about the MOFO
  8. MFS62 wrote: Do they play an old timers' game any more, or just introduce the players? If so, should Cone and Strawberry play for the Yankees or the opponents? Later Everyone plays for the Yanks now, they used to invite non-Yanks, probably got too annoying hunting down ex-non Yanks if requests get turned down while there is a Yankee Alumni Association that does keep track of all Ex-Bombers And they do play a 3 inning "game"
  9. Nymr83 wrote: Benitez had a "rep" as a guy who choked in clutch time as an Oriole, I'm not an Orioles fan so i couldn't list his "accomplishments" in that department but I know he was on the mound when that kid stole the ball over the wall against the yankees in the playoffs. When I mean rep, I mean as a fireballer 1-2-3 in 9 pitches type. Sure that could also be 6 pitches as well, go 0-2, bomb, go 1-2 on the next guy, BOMB...drive home safely Basically the guy you want on the mound, failures or not. Along with Mariano Rivera, who are the two greatest closers in the game's history? Goose Gossage and Dennis Eckersley, and they both gave up essentially World Series clinching HRs (to the same guy ironically enough) Both are of the PUNCH-OUT Game Over variety. There is a reason the ENTIRE Met fan community (not just online) was clamoring for him to be the closer instead of Franco back in April of 1999, and not just because of the Anti-Franco sentiments. And this is with his Baltimore failures allready established (The Maier game, also served up the ALCS winning HR to Tony Fernandez in 1997! The record for Benitez with the O's in the postseasons of 96-97 is not pretty at all, but Met fans still wanted HIM over Franco, despite Franco having senority over him, and still technically "unknown" in a true Autum Baseball environment, unlike Armando. Thats what I mean by rep.
  10. Nymr83 wrote: Millwood is still around right? how about John Rocker and Kerry Lightenberg as injury-insurance? Isn't Millwood one of the Benson Bunch?
  11. Plus his rep is of a "Blow away, Lights Out, Game Over" closer of a Gagne, Benitez, Meyers ilk, not the "Gutsy, grinder who will leave you reaching for the Rolaids, taking 40 minutes to get three outs" type of closer we've been having over the years (Orosco, McDowell, Franco, Looper)

The guy deserves a full retirement, thank you. Later Guy was in the hospital earlier this year, I'm not sure if he officially retired, but he is still doing some home games, probably a Ralph Kiner kind of role Maybe I'll give a Nuxhall update with my In Cincy KTE Thread next month
  13. Low key guy in the Cincy booth, Steve Stewart, Joe Nuxhall I guess is semi retired
  14. DAVID WRIGHT TIES IT
  15. MFS62 wrote: Steve, are you listening in on "The Big 1" out of Cincy? (forget the AM frequency) I used to listen to that station while on business in Dayton. They have some pretty lively sports talk. Later On MLB.com 700 Funny thing, they do special "Online" programing (best of mid-morning show and current news updates) when the Reds/Bengals are on Just wanted to hear Marty for a change of pace
  16. Greatest. Billboard. Ever. Listening on Cincy's broadcast, and the run-down of the umpire's name is sponsered by Lasiks Eye Surgery!
  17. Yeah Valent, a radio station had a contest where every game a caller called and picked a player to hit for the cycle, if said player did, they'd win a million bucks! Caller for that day picked Mike Cammeron!
  18. Mr. Zero wrote: Wondering if I've missed something, but how has Carlos Delgado only been an all-star twice? Is he a second half kind of guy? Also Toronto was usually represented by a pitcher like Roger Clemens or Doc Haliday
  19. Hillbilly wrote: ="metirish"]Nothing bad, it just wasn't cliched BS. Thanks, so what cliched respones would have been 'better'? In other words, what would have you (those that say he needs to keep his mouth close or use cliches) liked him to say? Pretty much intimated that the Dodgers didn't have much of a major league squad. There really is no cliched BS to get around it as history has judged that Dodger team as one of the weakest to ever compete in postseason play, let alone win the World Series. Put it this way, they made the 99-00 Mets look like the 1986 Mets! Probably the only the Cone should have said was the canned "Well they are still a major league division winning ball club, they have great grinders like Gibson and Sciocisa and Hershiser had a hell of a year"
  20. ="soupcan"]What Yancy said. Plus - who gives a crap anyway? Thats kind of where I was going, essentially too many different groups would want their friend/relative/whatever to be the "Biggest/Ultimate/Greatest/Whatever Fan" that any of these things get rendered meaningless Of course old ladies (especially those who have/had friends in high places) and peeps with disabilites will get the nod over the regular joes, otherwise you look like mean old bastards! And to Tunis35 Can't Google a screen cap of Steve Buchemi doing it in Res Dogs, but that is the Worlds Smallest Violin for ya bub!
  21. Yancy Street Gang wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]In other words why have something like this in the first place? Because it's not about honoring the best fan, it's about getting people to go to Modell's. (Or whoever's hosting the contest du jour.) True, I was mostly referring to the Mets Fans Hall of Fame or 25 Best Fans gimmick promotion Which reminds me, shouldn't Met fans who parlayed their fandom into a career and/or hobby be counted above people like Sign Guy? I.e. you, JD, Bryan Hoch who now runs Inside Pitch for crying out loud (no longer official but still going) or Howie Rose and Gary Cohen both of whom spent many a night (I know Rose did, not sure if Cohen did the same) recorded themselves in the stands "broadcasting" the game Are you saying Rose and Cohen don't get special consideration as "Ultimate Met Fans" since they both have made a career out of broadcasting for the team they grew up rooting for? That counts in my book actually Ditto for anyone who creates encylopedic websites dedicated to Met knowledge, wheither its essentailly an on-line media guide (UMDB) or a list of every uniform number in Met history (MBTN)
  22. Actually thats part of the problem with all of these "Greatest Met Fan Ever" contest, because its only the well known that get all the glory. And how are we judging "Well known" I said this before on the same type of thread, but how do we differentiate Sign Guy from, Doris From Rego Park who was known because of her calls to WFAN, or a Jonathan Weissman who was known because he had an early form of a blog on the internet, but they are only known to those who listen to WFAN and those who follow the Internet Met Community but if you asked the average Met fan that wouldn't know WFAN from a fan company, or MetsOnline.net from the Sports New York Network TV channel they wouldn't have a clue who Doris was or who Professor Jon Weissman currently teaching math somewhere in Staten Island was So the guy that nominates that guy sitting two rows in back of them, section 18 in the Mezz Reserve seat 4 because he's at all 81 home games plus a bunch of road games and comes up with great comments and cheers, whos to say that complete anonymous fan shouldn't belong as well? In other words why have something like this in the first place?
