  1. ="soupcan"]How are the pennants arranged on the trophy? Any method to the madness? Alphabetical? Year entered the league? Number of champeenships? Strictly Alphabetical Note, the trophy that is in my avatar, and the one pictured above is no longer in use, 1998 was the last year it was used, it was created in 1967 Here is a history of the trophy from the Hall of Fame website This is the current trophy OE: Too big will look for a smaller one OE II: Here is a small one

  4. Edgy DC wrote: The Rice Krispies would be a good nickmane for them. Wasn't that a Peterson/Billy Beane Moneyball-esque pick as well. Taking college pitchers over HSers because they'd be "more readily available" to play in the Majors Granted our most famous player pitched for USC, but it should be a hit for the Peterson belief in College over HS
  5. Please, lets have a bit of perspective on this. This is the team in 2nd place right now, playing a team who's place in the standings have no bearing on us. Not even for the Wild Card. You are tempting fate by wishing for such a senario where the Phillies and Mets both sweep their respective series just because of your hatred of the MFY
  6. Great job! Can't wait to know the Reds in Cincy next month! BTW, the same guys who produced the 1986 World Series set this year just released the 1975 World Series complete on DVD, roughly the same price as the Mets set. That means you can now enjoy all of the Red Sox's last 18 World Series games in their entirety! 1975, 1986 and 2004 Steve

  9. Robin Roberts, NEXT! Bobby Mathews 297 Tommy John 288 Bert Blyleven 287 Robin Roberts 286 (Not trying to be a wise guy, just thought I'd put a 20 year old picture of Glavine up) Tom Glavine 285 Countdown to 300 T-15
  10. David Segui hooked Grimsley onto HGH!
  11. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Well, Omar had this coming. And that thread! It's one thing to talk about the playoffs in June -- too forward looking, sure, but I coulkd see it the way things were going. But to erase it because of superstitions only lends them legitimacy. We're doomed people. Doomed. Hey, KC shamed me into Avi-ing the darn thing allright. I thought it'd be best let it die with a . rather than keep the chance that it stuck around on the first few pages "You want to tempt the wrath of the whatever from high atop the thing?"-Ex White House Director of Communications Toby Ziegler, portrayed by Richard Schiff on West Wing

  14. Yance what section? I'm on the Field, Sec 52, right on top of the O's dugout.
  15. Tom Seaver no-hits the Cards... Getting Bake McBride to get the final out, which was later re-created with the San Diego Chicken filling in for McBride on Seaver's apperance on The Baseball Bunch
  16. BTW the Phillies rebounded nicely from the disater that was this week against the Mets by scoring 4 runs in Tampa. They gave up 10! BOS 4 ATL 1 in the 9th Watch out for the Marlins! They are leading 3-1 in the 9th against Toronto!
  17. GYC wrote: ="ScarletKnight41"]Mora's homer gives the Orioles a 3-run lead. Heilman hasn't been effective in a while, has he? He hasn't been below average, let alone effective. Downright bad. Maybe it really is a head problem, he wants to be a starter he's sabootaging his relief apperances! SC=100
  18. Elster88 wrote:]For those who suffered through the lean times in Flushing - that's a euphemism for the Art Howe Era Poor Art Howe. It's not like he had the players to succeed. Not all his fault.Yeah but the media hated the poor guy, he was too "nice" and too "small town/midwest/country" for New YorkEven though he was born and played some Major League baseball in Pittsburgh!Someone on the Mets Listserv actually said that when I repeated a quote about Art Howe being too "mid-west" for New York, "I didn't know Pittsburgh was now in the Mid-West"

The home of Edgar Allen Poe, the home of a truly underrated TV Cop dramas of the 1990s, Homicide: Life On The Street (NBC)which was filmed in Baltimore. The home of the NFLs, and the home of the Baltimore Orioles. Thanks. Baltimore is just Newark with MLB. Oops. How the Ravens got cut off I don't know... Probably the Giant fan in me trying to erase the memory of the 2001 Super Bowl. Yeah that season ended with the NFC championship, no game in Tampa a couple of weeks later!

  21. Frayed Knot wrote: Florida suddenly only 2 games out of 3rd place with a nearly even RS/RA ratio. Doesn't look like the Fish will be the easy push over everyone thought they'd be. Then again, maybe that was the Yankee Biased media making ready made excuses if their boy Giradi failed, as well as ready made praise if Giradi was able to pull of a 75-80 win year
  22. I think I sense a problem here. The third team in the equation is a sub .500 third place team, some 13 games off the pace with the Captain wondering if too many of the youngsters of the team think that the division is theirs because they are THEM (this is according to Verducci, Smoltz is getting ansy about the lack of drive in the young Braves) and about 7 games out of the Wild Card. In other words, the Atlanta Braves are currently not on the radar Yes I know those words have been spoken in the past...
