That could be him. Later Yeah thats Curt. Nice to see he's not continuing his diva vs diva act that he had with Pedro (that kind of forced Pedro to want to leave along with the more years) Schilling's son's name is Gehrig and Curt has long been associated with ALS related charities

  3. Gwreck wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]Speaking of enemy territory, I'll be storming Yankee Stadium on Friday night, park myself in my usual Friday night seat and I shall say "Lets Go Mets!" You have a "usual" seat at Yankee Stadium? My Dad's company has had a Friday/Saturday plan since around 1997 Usually used for clients (a Real Estate title company) some games get squrilled away, specifically when the Mets play in Da Bronx
  4. Yancy Street Gang wrote: The nearest thing I can think of in Mets history is Darryl Strawberry, who was, of course, a bit less likable than Pedro. I was at Shea when Darryl made his first appearance as a Dodger in New York, but I don't remember what the reaction from the fans was. I suspect it was probably a lot more booing than cheering. But I don't recall Darryl having any nice parting words for New York when he left. Another free agent I can think of who could have returned but chose not to was Mike Hampton. And he didn't have a long history with the Mets, and his crap about the quality of local schools pretty much clinched an unfriendly return for him. Who else is there? John Olerud? He probably would have gotten a nice hand, but I don't think he ever returned to Shea. Sid Fernandez? I can't remember the circumstances of his departure. He signed as a free agent with Baltimore, but I don't know if the Mets tried to keep him. Piazza and Alfonzo didn't really have the option of staying, so they can't really be "blamed" for leaving. What other star free agents have the Mets lost? There really haven't been that many. Straw was more based on him being the Met version of Patrick Ewing. The guy that was supposed to be the savior and despite one or two moments in the NLCS and WS really wasn't THE GUY that delivered the championship. Don't forget him coming up short on his "monster years" despite his saying that he would deliver on a Mantle-esque type of season Sid I think was simply a sign of the team going small market, not really signing the old guard and just simply moving on

I called WEEI to say how much the "Grand Old Lady" would be missed and to talk about some memories of games I'd seen televised from that place.. The host listened appreciatively. But when I mentioned that I was from New York, he treated me like I had leprosy and quickly cut me off. They are very parochial about their sports on that station. I think the Boston fans I've met were usually more willing to discuss sports in general with you (beyond their local teams). Later Thats bad. I think they are tied in with that Boston.com Dirt Dogs site I saw where the home page is saying boo Pedro and such Its not like you called and said "The Boston Garden should ROT IN HELL! MSG IS THE BEST THERE IS, BEST THERE WAS...ect" Love or hate WFAN, they'll let outside market callers have their say, even just to garner a sense of whats going on in that market
  6. Centerfield wrote: Better question would be whether Boggs would be there. Why wouldn't he? They soothed over relations. He's in the Hall with a B, they have strict rules for retired numbers so I don't know if 26 is on the wall
  7. By the way, speaking of 86, apparantly they are honoring the 20th anniversary of the 1986 American League Champions. No idea if Bill Buckner is on the invite list
  8. Elster88 wrote: Michael Kay is a moron. His beliefs and "thoughts" should bear no weight in anyone's mind. In fact, anyone who discusses him, other than to ridicule him, can be dismissed from Metfandom at any moment. Good point, in fact the local 1050 shows were the only shows that seemed to care what kind of reaction Johnny Damon would get in terms of throwing out the topic for discussion. Just thought I'd throw that out only because the front page of the DirtDogs made it seem that Pedro is considered a major public enemy. Who knows, I haven't been surfing around the IRSC (Internet Red Sox Community) that much, or monitoring WEEI and the papers to know what the current majoritiy opinion is on Pedro, but NY is still hated by Boston, all teams, and yeah it does go back to 1986.
  9. Speaking of enemy territory, I'll be storming Yankee Stadium on Friday night, park myself in my usual Friday night seat and I shall say "Lets Go Mets!"
  10. Just to add a "Then again", then again, Kay still wonders why Sox faithfull treat Roger Clemens the way they do so...
  11. Nice KTE! From the looks of the Dirt Dogs site, doesn't look like Pedro will get a warm reception. Anyone know how Millar's reception was when he returned with the Orioles? Funny because Michael Kay was saying on his radio show that "It will be different for Pedro than with Damon because he went to the Mets, not the Yankees." Apparantly Kay never read FAFIF's review of Game Six, or realize that its ALL NEW YORK that Boston (and the rest of this country) hates! It really is like when casual or non fans would ask Yankee haters (no matter WHO they rooted for) why they said they couldn't root for the Yankees in the 2001 World Series. Please... (And I'm not even getting into the semantics of why should a Yankee WS championship HELP someone who hates baseball HEAL after 9/11)
  12. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Ugh. You should learn how to enjoy being in first place. Savor it. Don't waste time worrying about the last place team. Actually its more about seeing the reign officially come to an end, then start picking off the rest of the division untill the second place team (and it better not be a surging Braves team) is finally eliminated
  13. ="Johnny Dickshot"]I'm with YSG on this. I like to see the MFYs humiliated and as long as we TCB, I'm comfortable maintaining the current spread. If a Braves sweep undermines the Mets race to the division title, you can whack me with a broom 3 times. Okay, as I said before, don't cry if Larry is saying that the season was turned around thanks to the Yankee sweep starting the Greatest. Comeback. Ever. when the Braves are celebrating Division Championship # 15
  14. ="Gwreck"]="SteveJRogers"]Put it this way. The Yankees are rendered meaningless. It doesn't matter if we get swept this coming weekend. We lose the season series 2-4, eh no big deal. Leave season series bragging rights for when we are in the midst of a shit storm of a year where we are struggling to reach .500. In fact, the series means more for the MFY than it does to us. Period. I've got no serious objection to Steve's point that we root for the Braves to lose when they play the MFYs. No problem. This, however, gives me serious pause. The games against the Yankees are meaningless? It doesn't matter if we get swept? I realize it matters more to those of us living in New York than those elsewhere --- but beating the MFYs always matters. Once we have an advantage in the overall series, maybe. Bragging rights do matter. Just another three games right now. The reason I'm really using that tact is that this series really does means more to the Yankees then it does for the Mets, I know I'll be happy with a Met win of the series, but I'm really talking about no pressure being on the Mets this series. In other words, if we get swept I'm just going to go "Oh well, hope it doesn't lead to a stupid pre-ASG Break tail spin" as we head into the Pittsburgh-Florida homestand

  16. SteveJRogers wrote: ="Yancy Street Gang"]When the Braves play the Yankees this year, I'm a tomahawk-chopping fool. Chipper, Andruw, Smoltzie, they're all my boys. The Braves are the last-place team in the NL East. Them winning or losing won't have any effect on how soon the Mets clinch the division. True, but usually teams get eliminated one at a time. Braves are NEXT! The number to eliminate the Braves is 72. I want it to be in the 60s by the weekend allright

Elster88 wrote: ="SteveJRogers"]="Edgy DC"]If A-Rod had stuck with Texas, he'd be padding his stats (what he's accused of) in a serious hitter's environment, without a killer power alley in left, with fans who don't boo every failure and some successes. He'd still be at short and by now we'd be talking about whether he has yet displaced John Peter Wagner as the greatest shortstop ever. Criticize him for leaving to join a winning team, rather than bearing the challenge of helping to transform a losing team, but it's hard, in that contxt, to say all he cares about is number padding. Also, he didn't want to really leave. He was feuding with Buck (notice that Soriano was also jettisoned), and the Ranger finances were such that the only way to help the team WAS to get out from under that contract. If the money issue wasn't there, there'd be no way ARod would ever be traded, they'd probably fire Buck and the Rangers would have won the World Series in 2004! He did want to leave. He was willing to take less money to go to Boston. Player's association wouldn't let him do it. Edit: I'm Captain Johnny Franco. Yeah, mostly because he was feuding with Buck, and probably also figured (or was told) that the only way the Rangers would get better was without him.
  19. Frayed Knot wrote: I'm CAHNFIDENT that the Braves are far enough behind that I can tempt fate and fuck with the BB-Gods by rooting for them for 3 days. My #1 goal is having the Mets finish in first place. #2 is watching the Yanquis crumble in a sea of anarchy and humiliation. Okay, but don't come crying if there is a 15th straight Divisional championship celebration this Fall with Larry saying "Yeah, it was that sweep of the Yankees that turned this entire season AROUND! GREATEST. COMEBACK. EVER."
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: An oddity to this season is that, for the first time in a long time, Braves games are of little interest. Whether I was on them because there was a direct NYM/Atl pennant ract, or just following them because they were always so damn good, I had become accustomed to having a interest on the outcomes of their games - especially since they're on TV here more often than any other team outside of the two locals. Not that I want to sound like I'm complaining too loud, but they're just plain boring right now. But at least they're far enough behind where I can root for them as the play the MFYs this week. NO NO NO! It doesn't matter, the MFY are none of our concern. Only time they matter is if we play them in October. Thats IT. Our main concern is locking up this division AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!, which each and every single Phillie, National, Marlin and even Brave loss will help accomplish. Combined with our wins, that makes it 2 steps closer instead of the hard way, one step at a time! In other words, NO ROOTING FOR THE BRAVES! Hell even if they've been eliminated, the margin still looks better in the long run
  21. Centerfield wrote: From the Daily News: Strawberry attended his first Old-Timers' Day and was in a Yankee uniform, but that didn't change where he truly made his mark in baseball. Asked if he's a Yankee or Met, Strawberry didn't hesitate: "A Met," he said. "I played here for the Yankees, but my real history has been in the Mets organization, and it always will be," Strawberry said. "That's where I stand." When you're a Met, you're a Met all the way From your first game in Flushing, till they send you away!

I don't blame her Show was essentially a precursor of Gillmore Girls/OC/Dawson's Creek. Tons of HS/College rich white teen agnst, created by the now late Aaron Spelling, and it starred his no-talent daughter Tori Had a few moments and only because it was on FOX did it enjoy its early popularity (FOX was more successfull in being a new entity than WB/UPN have been) Not even sure why the heck I watched it, (well girls on the show were nice eye candy) it was a good time waster for mid-afternoon college TV watching/background entertainment

It was on a TV show, not sure how it affected their exposure in mainstream pop. I mean sometimes it helps, other times they are stuck as "That band you don't know with that song that you do know" Plus this is more than 10 years ago as well!
