The game isn't being carried on Extra Innings, but fortunately TBS will be carrying it. Mute button is needed! Speaking of which, was Don Sutton ever used by the networks in the 70's as a "Lets use an active player in our booth" like ESPN Radio does today with the postseason (and FOX tried couple of years ago) (Seaver pops up on telecasts from this era, including the 1977 World Series) Watching the 1979 Pirates DVD set and they had a bonus feature of the final half inning of the NLCS clincher vs the Reds. There was a guy named "Don" who was thanking everyone for the oppertunity and was being told that he did a great job all series, and even made a comment about not wanting to be involved in a trade to Boston. So am I correct in assuming that this is Don Sutton?
  2. I'm afraid to say this, but I finished listening to this on audio-booksNothing earth shattering or new. Montville does try hard though but says quite often that there is alot of "fog" with certain portions of Ruth's life. Obvious his childhood prior to St. Marys, his parent's and how they died and Helen's life.A decent upgrade of Robert Creamer's Babe: The Legend Comes To Life but mostly just an upgrade.Probably the only thing of note that is new that the book debunks the debunking of the link between the selling of Ruth and the production of No No Nanette, and essentially agreeing with past thinking that said Ruth was sold in part because Frazzee needed the money to finance his Broadway productions.Good read (or listen as the case may be) though

  4. ="Yancy Street Gang"]I don't think he flies the coop. I think the Mets will sign him in the off-season anyway. My objection is that Milledge isn't worth the two-plus additional months that we'd get out of Zito. I think he is, Milledge seems to be the same type of a 2nd tier OF star thats a dime a dozen, an interchangable part that you can get, sometimes at a cheap price on either trade or free agent market. Zito is a stud, going back to his first pitching coach will help Why not finally land someone long rumored to eventually be here
  5. I think the Mets and Boras relationshop has softened since the Beltran signing so I think we'd have a better shot than we did in the winter of 2000 By the way, I still don't see an ARod only merchandizing tent outside Legends Field, Yankee Stadium, I don't see MFY Stadium outfitted for a ARod only suite for his clients. Sometimes starting demands are just that, STARTING DEMANDS, and Steve Phillips should have been axed right there, as soon as he called ARod a 24 and 1 guy Piece of crap of a GM
  6. Vic Sage wrote: indeed i did. thanks. oh, and upcoming remakes currently scheduled include I DREAM OF JEANNIE, CHiPS, DALLAS, HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL and JETSONS. upcoming spinoffs: 24, SIMPSONS, AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE, DIRTY SANCHEZ, EVANGELION You also missed the Fugitive. By the way, (yes stop me if you heard this before) listening to a political talk radio show this morning (which is why they have just a general knowledge) actually consider Superman 78 a sequal to the George Reeves series! Thats funny
  7. Okay, hopefully the final live action installment of Clerks is here, and I hope to see it Saturday Plans are still being made about a cartoon style version of a movie as well as a continuing comic book
  8. What are the chances the Mets, or Braves make deals during the weekend rather than waiting till Monday?
  9. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Only because nobody's been daring or creative enough to do anything different. Shouldn't we have those flying cars by now? We need some real Reed Richards in this world!
  10. Yancy Street Gang wrote: To Gwreck's question: I'd rather see them build the first 21st Century style stadium (whatever that is) than build the 15th ripoff of Camden Yards. The sad thing is, I think the "retro-chick" is the 21st Century style
  11. Something to kick around on an off night, get my mind off of my earlier display: Trying to come up with the greatest single unit in Met history I guess the greatest 25 man roster would still be the World Champions of 1986. Starting Pitchers... I'm going with the 6 man from 1990, Gooden, Viola, Darling, Cone, Fernandez, Ojeda. The Mets never were stacked like that ever before, or since. Bullpen... Probably the 1999-2000 one over this years. Two guys who were closers in their career. Cook, Wendell and any combo of Pat Mahomes, Chuck McElroy, Dotel and the rest of the bunch in there were pretty soild. This years threesome of Wagner-Sanchez-Heilman with Oliver and Feliciano (and whomever gets picked up from here on out) has to do it down the stretch Staff top to bottom... Hmmm I think I'll take the 1988 staff with the pen of McDowell, Myers, Augie, Innis, and I think Leach was sidearming on that one as well. Staff of Cone coming into his own with Darling, Ojeda, Gooden, Sid was just hard to stop, unless you had a super human pitcher going for you and some "magic" on your side... INF: As much as I want to say this years, I'd like to see what Delgado does down the stretch before they take the title from the SI Cover boys of 1999 OF: 1986. Strawberry, Dykstra, Wilson, Mitchell and interchangable parts with Foster and Maz. What you think I'd take the 99-00 one? C: Eh, I like Grote-Dyer-Martin but Pratt came up big in the NLDS (Yeah JC got it done as well, but I'm 29 and was at the Pratt game) so Piazza-Pratt-Vance Wilson gets the nod Bench: Hmmm, Probably the platoon heavy 1969 crew gets the nod. Kranepool and Garrett were and would be starters respectivly. Shamsky wasn't a slouch and you couldn't sleep on Rod Stupid...err Gaspar. Complete offense. Again I like to see the stretch run happen before I give the 2006 Mets the title. Untill then its still the 1988 Mets.
  12. ="Gwreck"]="Willets Point"]Location. I like that at Fenway, Wrigley, Camden Yards, and whatever-they-call-it-now ballpark in San Francisco you can just walk along the sidewalk and the ballpark is one of the buildings in the neighborhood. Shea and the future Mets home are divorced from the city by their location. The problem with the Ebbets Field retro-look is that it is a style for a neighborhood ballpark being used on a ballpark that's not in a neighborhood. The artificiality of it is unappealing. I can appreciate the point, but it seems to me like a pretty empty complaint. The Mets don't now nor have they ever had the opportunity to place this ballpark in any sort of "neighborhood." WIth that in mind, what exactly should the stadium look like? I think there has been a consensus in these parts that the Mets "Don't need no stinkin' new stadium" and would rather have done some upgrading to Shea
  13. 50! Lets get this sucker down to 44 by Monday
  14. MFS62 wrote: ="ScarletKnight41"]The worst example of that is the stupid hill in centerfield in Houston's new stadium. One day someone is going to get hurt on that thing, and there's absolutely no reason for it to be there. And it isn't even traditional for Houston. The famous old centerfield hill was in Crosley Field in Cincy. Later Thats the comical thing about both the Astros and Rangers home. Since there wasn't much big league history in Texas they both took just about every old idea and meshed it into their ballparks.

  16. ="Johnny Dickshot"]Received this yesterday:Awesome piece of research, even if it overlooks Hubie Brooks was #61 for a short while in 1980.Gotta double check everything, discovered a few discrepancies between his data & mine alreadyHeh, do you have a book that I've been trying to find a cheap copy of for years (hell the Westchester Library System doesn't even have it) it came out around, eh I want to say 1996-1997, called "Baseball By The Numbers" or something to that effect. The only copy I ever located was through my college's library network system and it had a cover price of around 80-90 bucks! Probably outdated by now though
  17. Johnny Dickshot wrote:I did contact him a few times several years ago. I was interested in determining Dyar Miller's 56-to-49 switch and the other odd goings-on of 1980 as I recall it. I got to him through the retrosheet guy.I think he was worried a bit that I was moving in on his territory, or maybe he was just too busy, but we didn't get very far helping one another. Maybe we can now.Yup, you should, he neglected Hojo's brief stint as Johnson44! And I do believe that change garnered quite a hubub here in the area (44 being a sluggers number, ect)
  18. I've been parking right around College Point Blvd or underneath the parkway on Roosevelt Ave. Wouldn't be surprised if the Mets started getting into the latter's action during the heavy construction periods
  19. By the way, of note the Celebratory giveaways at Shea have been as follows: On the 16th of June fans got this Commemorative Coin that kicked off the Dunkin' Donuts promotion July 6th saw Steiner Sports and the Mets give away (I think this was the second time, the first was early 1990's as a poster that was seen as a crass move) a photo of the Mookie/Buckner play And Sunday (the 23rd) saw this nifty replica of the 1986 revised yearbook be given out As with the 69 and 73 reprints given out through the years, the differences can not be shown by looking at a picture of the cover. The stock is different and the back cover (as well as the flip of the front cover) is a 2006 advertizment for Sports Authority Coming Soon... Aug 4th T Shirt day! Aug 5th 1986 Mets Team Photo Day! And on the day of the celebration, Topps is giving out card packs
  20. Do we have a list yet of confirmed attendees of the Shindig on the 19th?
  21. According to a blurb in the latest Mets program, Groundbreaking is scheduled "sometime this year" So far the lot behind CF has been blocked off in huge sections.
  22. Looks like a Triage site set up just beyond Chop Shop City
  23. Yeah, I just tried resizing on Photobucket. I worked on the Met Offense Starters after like 5 minutes it reset itself. I'll take it down and re tried. Photobucket images and tables do not like me on this board
