Mets draw first blood. 1-0 in the second after a Schneider infield hit. OE: From one SS who replaced a World Series champion to another! <--

Speaking of absurdly obvious, a DP would be nice right here.

="Frayed Knot"]"Because I'd get flammed for being too pessimistic" When talking about the suggestion that this (or any) team could benefit from a 20 of 25 streak I don't think "pessimistic" is the phrase you're looking for. Seems to me that "absurdly obvious" works better. No, the fact that I ended that post by saying that I don't see this team pulling that off at all this year would have been overly pessimistic. In any event, Wright extends his hit streak, but Mets strand him.

I've looked at both ESPN and Sportsline, nothing even on Figueroa's DFA-ing.

FWIW Vargas is listed on the roster with 39 and Tatis is posied to be the 29th different Met to don #17 in a regular season game.

Heh, well my cousin knows a guy who worked at WABC TV and always saw Piazza hanging around with Sam Champion Also I've heard from some NYPD cop that pulled Piazza over with a trannie in the passenger seat. =

"Essential Games of Shea Stadium" DVD Set
stevejrogers replied to Gwreck's topic in New York Mets Talk
These are the "Top 6 Shea Games" they could put together? ] '69 World Series Game 4 I'd rather see Game 5 on here if you want a complete 1969 game. ]'86 NLCS Game 3 '86 WS Game 6 '99 NLCS Game 5 Game 6 belongs, but in terms of meaningfull games, well for starters I'd take Game 5 of the 1986 NLCS over Game 3. And as great as the Grand Slam Single was, is it really an "essential" game for them to put in it's entirety rather than a bonus feature, or part of a highlights montage? ]9/21/01, First Game played in NYC after 9/11 Not going to quibble too much, but this deserves it's own DVD, ala the night 42 was retired in perpetuity in 1997, kind of "outside" the scope of the Mets. ]5/19/06, Mets v. Yankees, Wright's walk-off hit THATS the best regular season game (aside from 9/21/2001) that they could come up with? How about Seaver's return in 83? Straw's debut? Gooden's masterpiece against Chicago in September of 1984? Carter's debut? The 1986 clincher? Game 162 in 1999? ]Plus bonus clips of: '69 World Series Last Inning Carter's Walk-off on opening day '85 '86 Division Clinch Highlights '86 World Series Game 7 Highlights Franco's walk-off RBI single vs. the Yankees Pratt's walk-off homer 2006 "walk-off moments" 2006 Division Clinch Highlights Endy's catch Bill Shea interview No Ball off the Wall? No Henderson Walk-Off? No Cone striking out 19? No Seaver Imperfection? Piazza's debut at Shea? Pedro's debut at Shea? This kind of proves my rant about how the Mets treat their fans and the history of the franchise. 2006 gets the most amount of love in terms of regular season moments? Pratt's game winner (aside from the GSS game on the main DVDs) is the only 1999 moment? And Matt Franco's game winner off of Rivera, along with Carter's walkoff in his debut are the ONLY regular season, non clinching highlights pre 2006? How about a nice Shea Stadium documentary as well that covers all non-baseball stuff as well (Jets, Beatles, WWWF, etc). Something so simple as a Farewell to Shea celebration, and the Mets marketing staff STILL manages to muck everything up. Somehow I get the feeling that the last regular season celebration will only feature Kranepool, Seaver, Staub, Hernandez and the 2008 Mets rather than something the Orioles, Braves, Cardinals, Reds, Phillies did that encompassed all eras of their doomed ballpark's history, giving fans a real treat. Instead the Mets will trot out local members of the championship squads (that aren't pissed off at management) and that will be it. -

Never mind... Great that he is a Met fan, but again, the game notes listed him as "Representive for Bermuda Tourism" so that to anyone who wasn't there, or paying attention to the TV would assume they were doing a complete random person. Hence part of my frustration of how the Mets are handling this whole thing. -

Then they should have said so on the dopey game notes press release package. Just to add to the rant, in 2012 the Mets will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the franchise. I'm getting the feeling that if the same marketing crew that is around now is around 4 years from now, 1986's 25th Anniversary would blow the 2012 one away in terms of how things are celebrated. -

From the Mets Game Notes for this evening's game, yet another suit from Lincoln Mercury! Why not have whomever wrote "Mercury Blues" do it then? To quote Billy Walsh, SUITS SUCK! -
And the first media hypocritical comment on the issue (well that I heard first anyway) goes to: Warner Wolf 1050 ESPN Radio and 77 WABC! Guy was all over Joba for his fist pump last week (and when it last was a major story) and this morning played a cut of Figueroa calling the Nats out, but said "Hey Nelson, they did that because YOU kept throwing the balls." So instead of calling the Nats out, he uses the same logic Yankee apologists like Michael Kay and scores of media members and callers use for Joba. "If you don't like it, don't (strike out/let up hits or walks/whatever)!" Can't have it both ways on this issue, either it's all bush, or it's just part of a person's personailty and shouldn't be curbed (and therefore a non-issue for those who don't have anything to do with the actual performances on the field/court/ice/whatever).

They are synonymous though. Granted "faith" does have religious conotation in origin, but I've seen faith used in secular forms, such as sporting events.

="AG/DC"]="bmfc1"]A-Rod is out for another week so he'll miss the Mets this weekend. Tough break for the MFYs. Cue up the absurd columns about how Nick Green or Cody Ransom or somebody brings the heart and desire and winniness to the team that A-Rod lacks. Unless of course the Mets kick their butts, then cue up the columns about how they lost because A-Rod was too soft to be out on the field. HA! Nah, that usually is reserved for the A-Rod bashers on WFAN and 1050 radio more so than columnists. Actually that's not just the ARod bashers though, thats just about every caller who suggests keeping a Jason Phillips, Joe McEwing, Angel Pagan, etc in the lineup over the "over paid, lazy loaf" that they replaced due to injury.
