  1. Postponed to Sunday at 1:40 PM.
  2. This will be the second surgery for Rocker since the 2021 draft (he also had shoulder surgery in September 2021).

Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner, and José Fernández were just as electric as young pitchers as Harvey was — the former two emerging a few years earlier, and the last about the same time — and none of them are likely to get any Hall of Fame support either. There's a pretty wide gulf there between “flaming out young” and “Hall of Fame,” no? Also, when you say “anyone who didn't see Matt Harvey flaming out young wasn't looking” - do you mean not recognizing it as a possibility, or not recognizing it as a fait accompli? I think we all knew by August 2013 (when he needed his first major surgery) that “flaming out young” was a possibility, but the idea that it would necessarily happen is altogether different.
  4. I think it's an interesting discussion point: do they have too many relievers on the roster? I'd probably go that route too, although I could be talked into cutting Escobar.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: In most cases, the strategy for adding a guy when there are no obvious moves to clear roster space is to wait for tomorrow and there's a good chance that something will come up. That's a bit of a cop-out, isn't it? Assuming we agree Vientos appears ready for the majors, what's your move to get him on the roster as it currently sits?
  6. =bmfc1 post_id=124629 time=1683482830 user_id=73] Waive Vogelbach right now. Stupid POS. Meanwhile, Vientos hit his 10th HR today.
  7. Has Nimmo gone insane? Been dropped on his head? What possible could he be stealing bases in the 9th down 2 runs?
  8. Moves I didn't like: Not hitting Vogelbach for Canha in the 9th. Getting first runner on is of paramount importance in the 9th inning, down 1 run situation, and therefore the best on-base guy was needed. What about Nido, then, due up third? There was still a full bench with Alvarez, Guillorme, and Escobar. And who would hit there would certainly depend on what the first two batters had done. “Saving” Vogelbach for Nido's spot was dumb.
  9. Every time I see this sort of data I think about how awful, terrible, and now completely unjustified the ghost runner rule is.
  10. I think it's pretty unlikely they use Peterson as a reliever. Obviously his struggles are pretty frustrating but there's a lot more potential there as a starter, as evidenced by his contributions last year. Better to have him sort it out in AAA since they'll need him again this year.
  11. Postponed. Single-admission doubleheader tomorrow, starting at 1 PM.
  12. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: That was a genius way of getting us to take this affront. Exactly. Everybody's caught up in how it was made better without recognizing how awful it is from a baseline.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: But yeah, it's a different story to give a guy a contract that's for two or three years if he's good, six or seven if he isn't. I'm not sure I would call it “giving” a guy a contract versus negotiating one. I say good for the player for utilizing his leverage and negotiating for that flexibility.
  14. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=123456 time=1682455545 user_id=68]he can essentially break his contract and demand a huge raise. It's all reward and no risk.
  15. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: fuck him Fair. He didn't want to be a Met anymore, ok, fine. Get lost.
  16. =bmfc1 post_id=123403 time=1682427544 user_id=73] We know that Dom will get a tribute video. Will Trevor Williams?
  17. =bmfc1 post_id=123290 time=1682297466 user_id=73]because this game is starting late thanks to your network, Buster
  18. Buck pinch hitting in the 4th inning is a level of aggressiveness in bench deployment we don't typically see.
  19. =kcmets post_id=123260 time=1682267730 user_id=53] This just in, we are spared any KayRod combo and such tonight... The voice of Sunday Night Baseball, Dan Shulman, will provide commentary for the telecast alongside analysts Aaron Boone and Jessica Mendoza and reporter Buster Olney. It's the little things in life that give the greatest pleasure.
  20. I wonder about him as a reliever.
  21. Excellent win. More like these please.
  22. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: The price for these is something like a stadium naming rights deal, is what I was told. It is awful and ugly Side note, why does a hospital (1) need to pay millions of dollars a year to advertise and (2) could that money be used to, you know, treat sick people? This is awful all around.
  23. What is wrong with the people approving this? How much revenue could this possibly generate such that they needed to desecrate the jerseys?
  24. Not really an apt analogy at all given the ticketing situation there.
  25. Frayed Knot wrote: But when I am in the park the last thing on my mind is to make sure I sample all the new (and ridiculously over-priced) food stations. I'm not sure anyone is going to sample all the food stations at any one game. (At least, I hope not). The fact that stadium food is jacked up in price shouldn't be news to anyone at this point. The Mets' stadium security policies on bring-your-own-food-if-you-want is probably one of the most fan-friendly things they do.
