  1. I didn't personally audit their methodology but have no reason to doubt the data. Given that you have to put in a billing address for tickets, they know full well if the tickets are being bought in the UK or overseas.
  2. No reports yet on this series but last year's Cubs-Cardinals series had 71% of the ticket sales coming from the UK.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It's seeming more and more that this isn't about bringing baseball to the people of London but about bringing American baseball fans to spend money in London. I think if I was there I would ignore the MLB promotional stuff (other than the game, of course) and spend my time exploring the city. Is this your first trip to London, or had you been there before? Just found this thread and your first sentence sounds about right to me. Maybe that wasn't how they expected it to be though. Again, how is this assessment being made? I do not have that sense at all after actually being here. No doubt Milwaukee or Cincinnati won't be asked to come to London anytime soon, and there of course was a sizeable US contingent but in no way do I get the sense that this was focused on US fans. There were tons of people there in gear from other teams (even including Tampa (!). This is a European-focused event first and foremost.
  4. The rando solo homer happens. But the walks here are threatening to make this a disaster inning.
  5. Also feels like there is a real dearth of Major League quality hitters in this lineup.

What is this assessment based on? There are plenty of Americans here, certainly. But my sense is that the majority are European.
  7. Of those who appeared affiliated, probably 70% Phillies fans. Some vocal contingent behind the Mets dugout and plenty of cheers when they scored first but not much of a home field advantage. Foul territory was not as expansive as perhaps feared, and certainly less than, say, Oakland. The screens, however, were really excessive. Almost no foul balls made it into the seats, and was largely impossible for players to throw balls into the stands. Mike, David, and Mookie all prominently sitting in the first row of the boxes behind the Mets dugout was nice to see. Scoreboards were surprisingly small for a stadium built in 2012. Sure, we're spoiled at Citi Field but key information (pitch velocity) was missing. Fan engagement seemed good and overheard more than once that the pitch clock is a good thing. Did not see a single person keeping score (other than me). All in all, a lot of fun despite a poor performance from the Mets. Here's hoping for a split tomorrow.
  8. And on the other hand, Harper stealing while up 5 runs and no outs is an interesting choice.
  9. Vientos being unable to score from first on a double with two outs, and the outfielder bobbled it? Not good.
  10. It looks like Marte really mis-read Sosa's single and everything fell apart from there.
  11. I read that they have been able to find some more room with center moving back to 392 feet, and alleys up to 387 feet. Will also be representing for the good guys in London this weekend.
  12. =bmfc1 post_id=157322 time=1717169208 user_id=73]They lose the big stipend for the trip. I've read that the LAD and SD players got about $70,000 (maybe more) for the South Korea trip.
  13. Theories: 1. He's actually hurt (and maybe that explains things). 2. He's not really hurt, and this is an Eppler-style move to let him save face and get a breather.
  14. When do the Mets hit rock bottom? Are we there yet or are there still even worse ways to lose coming? Asking for a friend/all of us.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I think it's probably simply a matter of paying him to go away. Precisely. [bLOCKQUOTE]MLB and Hernández had spent the past two weeks negotiating a financial settlement before reaching a resolution over the weekend.[/bLOCKQUOTE]
  16. =bmfc1 post_id=156787 time=1716824065 user_id=73](not that I'm advocating for a split-DH, they shouldn't be allowed, but the poor owners need their gate revenue).
  17. Have they won a single game in these uniforms?
  18. =Centerfield post_id=156632 time=1716683006 user_id=65]We are far enough into the Cohen regime that he bears responsibility.
  19. The outlier is the unusual Wednesday game at 4:10 PM. Getaway day for the Dodgers who fly back home (and have a day off the next day) but Mets are in the middle of a long homestand. Given their off day, it makes little sense to accommodate the Dodgers with a weeknight game at 4. The 4:10 start on Memorial Day is a good game time, but the Saturday game would probably have been better served as a night game. It will be interesting to see if there are meaningful attendance differences having eliminated all the Saturday night games.
  20. Is McNeil bad, or is he hurt? Was he ever healthy this year? Is this like Marte last year, where he was put on the DL way too late and never got healthy? Baty is not good. Now, patience is fine, and this is a transition year anyway, but he's not good. Bench and roster construction leaves something to be desired with 3 players who can't hit and a bunch of extra DHes.
  21. There's a real roster/bench management problem here when the Mets have no viable options in the 10th inning. Burning 2 players to hit for Baty is a real problem. If Baty can't be trusted to hit in a big spot, he can't start. Not with Wendle and Nido and Narvaez holding down unproductive spots on the roster.
  22. The City Connect uniforms have to go.
  23. Proof once again that Manfred has actively tried to ruin baseball. Answering the question: should the only run be scored without a hit, walk, error, HBP, wild pitch on strike 3 — yes, it's still a perfect game.
