  1. Carlos and Carlos get us the lead back with a single and and RBI double.
  2. Oops. Oh well, 7004 (or something like that) and counting...
  3. 3 Innings, 26 pitches. Thanks Pedro.
  4. No, it was definetly weird. I thought correct pronunciation was "Chuh-keen"
  5. Sounded like he pronounced it "Sha-sheen" (??)
  6. Howie and radio partner seem convinced that the Pedro-Guillen nonsense got into Armas' head causing him to lose his control on the Pedro at-bat.
  7. Thanks KC. It's the first pronunciation. G (like the letter)-wreck. Two syllables.
  8. Yancy Street Gang wrote: And let's not forget that Woodward has seen very little action. He's probably safe because he seems to be a Willie favorite, but the fact remains, he hasn't been playing. Woodward was going to get a start but didn't because of the rainout. I think that's mostly irrelevant, though -- no reserve has been playing. Valentin and Diaz have 4 ABs, Franco 2, Woodward and Chavez 1. Castro hasn't seen game action yet. Woodward's spot is safe I think because of the versatility. I would be rather surprised to have Valentin, Hernandez AND Matsui all on the roster at the same time.
  9. I hate to be the one to suggest this, but isn't it possible that Valentin is merely holding Kaz Matsui's spot on the roster until he comes back from the DL? Matsui can also bat LH, can also play 2B, and has some pop in his bat too...
  10. My guess with Glavine is that length of contract will be more important than location. Unless he gets 15+ wins this year, I think he'll need 2 years after 2006 to reach 300 wins. I could be wrong, but "last ever 300-game-winner" could be a big deal for him.
  11. Mets pitchers now hitting .444, 2 RBI, 1 Run Scored
  12. Announced on the radio is that tonight is the 7000th Mets game of all-time.
  13. Johnny Dickshot wrote: That said, I've considered the Marlins and my conclusion is they could easily lose 110 games this year. The Mets really should account for 17 or 18 of them. Fixed it for you.
  14. Sounds like Beltran got a nice reception for his first AB.
  15. Nothing really interesting but probably worth saving the link... http://davidwright.mlblogs.com/
  16. soupcan wrote: I don't know that that's true. If you believe the slate gets wiped clean on Opening Day that's cool. It has to, doesn't it? A guy can't be having a bad season before it starts. Even if there's serious problems from the past, he's still not having a bad year/a slump/a bad patch until at least a few games go by.
  17. soupcan wrote: I had no intention of booing this guy on Opening Day until some Ned Flanders lookalike started screaming at everyone in my section to 'cut him some slack, give him a break, make him feel welcome!' Then I just started spitting venom. You may not like Ned Flandes, but his point is valid. Booing at this point in the season isn't just stupid -- it's positively moronic. Unless you expect him to bat .775 with 80 HR and 200 RBI, he gets at least 2 weeks before hearing boos. Period. As for Beltran's culpability, he certainly bears a ton. He didn't earn his money last year. His comments post-game weren't necessarily out of line. An acknowledgement of sub-par performance from last year would've been appropriate, but I don't think he's hiding from it either. He *is* absolutely correct that the fans could be better. What people don't seem to realize is that booing doesn't cause players to hit.
  18. Beltran 3 Wright 1.5 Martinez 1.25 Sanchez 1.25 Delgado 1 Reyes 1 Floyd .5 Nady .5
  19. Correction: Warnings had in fact been issued, Frank Robinson also ejected.
  20. Nymr83 wrote: The Mets hit 4 batters... The Natonals hit one.... the Nationals pitcher gets the boot... the rules aren't fair sometimes. Joe Morgan makes a good point (for once) noting that Frank Robinson probably was saved the ejection because the umpires perhaps had not been handling things quite right (ie. no warning after Pedro hits Guillen).
  21. I'd actually wonder about using Sanchez for a 3rd inning. Let everybody else be fresh for the weekend.
  22. abogdan wrote: Why was Duaner Sanchez hitting there? Put in Diaz or Franco. If they get a hit, you could throw Julio out there in the 8th and it would be tough for even him to blow it. 5 relievers pitched yesterday. No off days until Monday. Victor pitching on Sunday, when the relievers will be most tired. Sanchez only pitched one inning, he could go 2 and then we only need one guy to end the game.
  23. Willets Point wrote: I don't think the fans at Shea know what's going in. ESPN cut to commercial, then to Baseball tonight. But at least they had a sideline reporter who could let us know what's happening.
  24. Apparently they're removing a nerve from his elbow. Out indefineitly.
  25. Ted Barrett, home plate ump hit in the throat when Guillen was hit the second time. Larynx is swelling, so he's going out. Rick Reed to take over behind the plate. Delay is so he can change. 3 Umps to work duration of game.
