  2. Interestingly, all of the .500+ teams all-time are all "original" clubs, including some with long histories of (percieved) ineptitude: Boston, Chicago (both), Cincinnati, Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, MFYs, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and St. Louis. (Arizona is the lone exception).
  3. Bret Sabermetric wrote: And right now, what's the total w/l pct? Is getting back to .476etc a reasonable goal for this season? For next season? I don't know, but as was pointed out earlier in the thread, it's not hard to figure out. "Goal" is clearly a strange term to use here. It's really a "who cares" sort of issue, not a goal.
  4. Joe Hietpas, star reliever. 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 K.
  5. Excellent KTE Frayed Knot. For the first time since 1997, the Mets have NO ex-MFY players on their roster. Somehow, this doesn't really upset me. The Ex-Mets are Erickson and Cairo, plus backup catcher Kelly Stinnett.
  6. Yeah, starting this a little early, but we need to get the mojo workin' early and often. We'll start this with a favorite rally song of mine: I know that you believe in me, that's all I ever need, uh huh No, no, nothing's gonna stop me, nothing will be scaring me, oh no Hey baby, it's the only way out Oh, little darling, now c'mon, what's it all about? Standing on top of the world for a little while Standing on top of the world Gonna give it all we got Oh, I know it won't hurt, I gotta have a little taste I just wanna sink my teeth in that fine piece of real estate, yeah Hey baby, make it nice and sweet Oh, little darling, let's take a walk down easy street Standing on top of the world for a little while Standing on top of the world Let's give it all we got Baby, I've gotta feel it Oh, I wanna touch it now See the whole wide world turn upside down Someday, we'll be standing on top of the world For a little while Standing on top of the world Standing on top of the world for a little while. Standing on top of the world Gonna give it all we got (Standing on top) Hey, baby (Standing on top) Hey darling Standing on top Standing on top Standing on top
  7. I think the grades are rock-solid. I'd flip Delgado and Beltran's grades though. Just can't give the A until the average comes up a little more. Delgado has been playing at an A- level, but perhaps gets a little favorable consideration for having some particularly big hits.
  8. Beltran 2 Valentin 1.5 Feliciano .5 Oliver .5 Delgado .25
  9. Tying run at plate now. C'mon Castro.
  10. Trachsel 5 Sanchez .75

  14. ABG wrote: Since the Sunday game is at night, would there be a problem with leaving my car in the lot (or under the overpass) till the next afternoon if I wanted to go out in the city? Do they tow? I don't think they'll let you leave it in the lot. Under the overpass might not get you towed but I wouldn't recommend it. What I would recommend would be parking your car in the city on Saturday morning. Depends on the area, of course, but there are plenty of safe places to leave a car overnight on the street. A little persistence pays off (plus, a Saturday morning is a good time to be looking). Read the signs carefully, but there isn't a whole lot of street cleaning going on, so you should be fine in most areas. Park it there, take the subway to the game.
  15. ="Elster88"]="Frayed Knot"]Right. When a team takes a lead in an otherwise-official game during the middle of an inning but rain prevents the inning from being complete, the result has to revert back to the last whole inning - as if the 7th (in this case) had never happened. I don't think this is true. If the game gets called off all together they just start a new game from scratch. No, Frayed Knot has it right. You start a new game from scratch if it isn't an official game. If it is an official game, then you can end it if one team is ahead. If no team is ahead, you have to keep going. No team was "ahead" because the Cardinals hadn't had the chance to bat in the 7th. If the Cardinals were ahead (instead of the Mets) when the tarp went on the field, they could've called the game and the Cardinals would have won.
  16. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Why is Springer such a popular name for mediocre pitchers? I can think of three or four off-hand. You're probably throwing Steve Springer (former Met, not a pitcher) and Dennis Springer (former Met, pitcher) together in your memory.

  20. ESPN sez: ]The wild confrontation began when Bonds led off the fifth inning. Springer's first pitch sailed behind Bonds' back, drawing a warning from plate umpire Joe West. The next four pitches all came inside, including one that hit Bonds' bat handle on the third delivery for strike one. On the fifth pitch, Springer plunked Bonds in the right shoulder as he turned to protect himself. That's when Springer and manager Phil Garner got ejected -- and the Houston crowd of 35,286 gave Springer a standing ovation. The pitcher, who had allowed one homer to Bonds previously, could be fined or suspended.
  21. Zvon wrote: What motivated me to start it was this deal where Bonds was hit by a pitch tonight. The opposing pitcher was tossed with no warning (as far as I know). WTF? Ill have to see this again on Sportcenter or Baseball 2night, cuz i dont understand why this pitcher was tossed. What?-Are you not allowed to make mistakes? or pitch inside? No warning? Is this because it was Bonds at bat? He was warned. First pitch of the at-bat was behind Bonds' back. Every subsequent pitch was inside, with the lone strike because it hit the bat.
  22. metirish wrote: Fuck not Jeter, Klapisch and the boys must be getting hard at the thought of this..... Nope, it was Posada with the walk-off. Akinori Otsuka, FUCK! Don't groove a 3-1 pitch when you've got 2 out and first base open!
  23. Zvon wrote: Willis pitched well, but gave up a bomb in the 9th to allow the Braves to tie it. Florida regains the lead 3-2, but Willis wont get a desicion in this one. Atlanta comes back to win in bottom of the 11th. Texas scores off Rivera to take the lead against the MFYs in the top of the 9th. Brewers "walk-off" on a throwing error by Phillies pitcher Ryan Franklin.
  24. OOTS: Burrell threw out JJ Hardy at the plate in the bottom of the 8th, still tied in Milwaukee. Bonus baseball in Atlanta, still FLA 2 ATL 2.
