  2. WFAN guys noted that Jeremi Gonzalez is listed on the lineupcard as an "available" pitcher tonight. Speculation that Gonzalez might not start on Thursday.
  3. Yeah, this should be noted for posterity, that after official lineups were posted there was a change to the Mets order: Reyes SS LoDuca C Beltran CF Delgado 1B Wright 3B Floyd LF Matsui 2B moved up from 8th Chavez RF replaced Nady Trachsel P
  4. Technically, yes, I think that's right. ESPN or NAACP aren't really acronyms (they're initialisms), because when spoken, they aren't said as "ess-pin" or "naah-cip," you say "E-S-P-N."
  5. SteveJRogers wrote: ="sharpie"]KC may just have the worst team I've seen in many years. Who's their All Star representative? Usually on terrible teams their closer gets the shot (see Denys Baez's TB slot last year) but they've just replaced their closer with Elmer Dessens f'chrissake. Mark Grudzielanek is hitting .300 but with no power. Reggie Sanders has been hurt much of the year and Mike Sweeney for virtually the whole year. Royals might just hit 120. Marlins at least have some talent which is likely to get better, they're likely to put a good streak or two together (not this coming weekend but later). A perfect reason to abolish the whole "every teams needs representation" from the MLB ASG Eh, but that's one of the fun parts. Grudzielanek will be the Royals rep. AL is short on second basemen anyway -- Iguchi and Roberts, and Grudzielanek isn't that much different than Loretta or Cano.
  6. Farmer Ted wrote: Heard on the broadcast that the Mets have won eight of the last 11 meetings in this series. This series is getting boring. We need better competition. Somebody made a mistake there. It's 8 of last 12. I think I *might* celebrate when we take the advantage in the all-time series. (Still down 21-30.
  7. Bret Sabermetric wrote: "very seriously"-- A bit much? I think it takes much of the credibility out of the points you've made about the Mets' inability to gauge how much starting pitching they'd need thsi year. ]"undermined" --How? By suggesting that "they" have left Heilman in the bullpen because the concern is not making "themselves" look foolish. That the "fear" is him succeeding. ]"previous" --To what? Mets' problems with starting pitching ]"ridi[d]culous" --why? 1. There's no substantive base for your allegation 2. Heilman's performance indicates that there's more than a defensible argument for keeping him in the pen.
  8. Bret Sabermetric wrote: Does anyone but me think the fear here is not that Heilman will fail in the starting role but that he'll succeed? A couple of one-hitters back to back, for example, and they'll have a hell of hard time explaining that he's not equipped to start, and then they'll look stupid(er), so they go to any length to avoid putting themselves in that embarrassing position. You've very seriously undermined your previous statements by making this riddiculous claim.
  9. I haven't been to Shea yet this year but I have been assured that it is indeed the highest of high comedy. Past lessons of "Learn Spanish with Professor Reyes" have included: I like food = Me gusta como Mr. Met = Senor Met etc. etc.
  10. Over the last 21 games, the Mets have 5 wins by their starting pitchers. Tom Glavine has all 5.
  11. DocTee wrote: If "you can't forget Atlanta" you gotta remember Anaheim (and Minnesota, too). Ehhhh....Atlanta is at least .500. Anaheim is 10 games under! Minnesota 6.
  12. DocTee wrote: Any news on Cliffy? In the press conference, Willie says just an abrasion, he'll be playing Tuesday.
  13. Mets, Houston, St. Louis all definetly. Cincinnati, Philly. Colorado as the surprise team. Milwaukee. Plus can't forget Atlanta.
  14. Rotblatt wrote: Impossible! Everyone knows the AL is the greatest! Early returns show that that was a mistaken prediction. I only count 3, maybe 4 good teams: Boston, White Sox, MFYs, (Tigers). Hardly the superior league.
  15. Glavine 4 Delgado 3 Wright 1 Heilman 1 Wagner 1
  16. Stinnett? Cairo? No problem.
  17. Willets Point wrote: Torre double-switches A-Rod out of the game. Someone explain the genius of benching your best player to keep Ericson in the game longer? In fairness, Torre has a short bullpen. Rivera unavailable. Chacon unavailable, etc...
  18. The tag definetly beat him, but maybe (?) Cano's tag just missed him. I woulda thought the Yankees would get that call. Oh well, we definetly are due some umpire payback.
  19. Wow, Wright's was in the parking lot!
  20. DELGADO!!! Much better, thank you.
  21. The pop up and the Jeter single/Wright error didn't really bother me all that much...the big problem...why wasn't Glavine challenging Kelly freakin' Stinnett? 1 out, pitcher due up next, you do NOT walk Stinnett, you throw strikes.
  22. Zvon wrote: A look and a throw over by the pitcher would be nice. He did throw over twice when Damon was at first. Joe Morgan alleges Glavine's pickoff move isn't that good. For once, Joe Morgan might actually be right. Wind costs Cliff the kaboom but he still hustles enough to get the triple...but is stranded.
  23. Zvon wrote: Why wasnt Kaz waiting at the bag for that throw by LaDuke? Did damon have THAT big a jump? One thing we have to establish is that the Skanks cant be runnin whenever they want to. Kaz might've been a little late getting there but that also could be part of just how the shot on TV was shown. Irrelevant with that throw anyway. Not letting teams run isn't just going to be against the MFYs but also against every team. LoDuca's not that good throwing runners out...
