  1. Updating this with new information. Assumption is that the Mets will have Homefield advantage throughout. As of this writing, the Magic Number to Clinch that is 2. 2. I believe that is Mrs. Green to the immediate right of Shawn.
  3. I rarely miss votes either. I like both polls and try to participate regularly. Many thanks to those who run them. For me, a frustrating thing is missing votes that close, especially those that close over the weekend. Hard to complain about timing when I'm not doing the work, naturally, but I know I missed some recently over the last 4 game stretch (having been at all 4 games). I find that going to the games makes it a lot tougher to vote than if I just was watching/listening and could vote as soon as the game ended. This may not be as much of a factor for some, as I get the sense that the board generally skews more to the out-of-town crowd. I wonder if it's feasible to keep every game open for one week? I also wonder if the success of 2006 has more to do with the lack of voting. There's more celebrating, going to games, watching with friends, articles to read, etc. and consequently less time to break down the minutiae. (?) It's merely a though, as I don't remember well enough the status of Schafer in 2005 and earlier, given that I only stopped lurking and started posting when CPF moved from EZBoard here.
  4. ="metirish"]Today would have been Bob Murphy's birthday, his widow and daughter are at the game.....thanks to gary for the info. Indeed. They were welcomed by name and shown on the Diamondvision between the 3rd (?) and 4th innings. They then cut to some nice images of Bob and some of his famous calls ('73 clincher, '86 WS victory, etc.) Nice tribute.

  9. Good question. My best guess is that "paid attendance" is actually a misnomer and the announced attendance figures incldue all tickets issued to the game, whether paid or issued complimentarily.
  10. For a while the NL measured people through turnstiles only, although that changed a while ago (I want to say 10-12 years ago). Now both leagues measure paid tickets.

  12. ESPN number + numbers from last 3 box scores = 3,230,215. I'm guessing the record breaking number includes tickets already sold to the remaining 7 home games though.
  13. Lost in all of the celebration was a very brief note that flashed on the scoreboard in the late innings: The Mets set the all-time franchise attendance record this season.
  14. For 100 Wins, the Mets need to go: 9-4 (or better).

  16. I kind of wanted to take the train to the game (haha) but it was better driving. We caught the last of the highlight reel on Mets Extra, followed by Steve Somers' intro, which lead into a really nice highlight reel of the entire season, with all the appropriate music, New York Groove, Brass Monkey, the Daddy Yankee song Reyes and Delgado use, Sweet Child O'Mine, etc. First Inning: Guy near us with a great sign. "Queens: A Great Place To Live, Work, and Clinch!" That was my favorite of the night, although you can't beat the classic simplicity of "Willie for President." Between the first and second innings: On Diamonvision, my boy Duaner, shown at the top step of the dugout. Lots of cheers. Third Inning: I think Jose Valentin knew that curtain call was coming as soon as the ball left the bat. Same thing for HR #2. Fifth Inning: I notice something different in right field. They've moved the banners over towards the bullpen to make room. Big black empty spot between the 2000 banner and the RF flag pole. Seventh Inning: Cops on horseback staging in RF next to the Mets 'pen. Ninth Inning: Everbody on their feet. Loudest ovation for Enter Sandman so far this season. "Fans, just a reminder, it is dangerous and illegal to enter onto the playing field, and anyone doing so will be arrested." As the players went to the clubhouse, Diamonvision showed the SNY feed. Lots of cheers for the interviews, particularly Wright, Omar, Jeff Wilpon/Willie Randolph. We go to buy our shirts at the under-staffed, heavily-mobbed concession stands, and then head down to the field level as the players have come back out. Nice size crowd gathered near the Mets dugout. Players, friends, wives, kids, etc. Shawn Green's little girl is really cute. Players spraying champagne, beer, water on the fans; Paul LoDuca gets the hose from behind the pitchers mound and gets tons of people before one of the groundskeepers runs over a turns it off. David Wright takes the time to shake the hand of EVERY single security guard, goundskeeper, and police officer on the field. Music playing on the PA as the on-the-field celebration continued; it finally wound down around 11:00, when we left. Security was super-accomodating, as long as you didn't want to go onto the field. Very nice touch by the Mets.
  17. The guy from SNY was putting in Keith's order at Primanti's when we were getting our sandwiches there this afternoon. This game sucked. Result aside, using Ledee (when Green and Floyd are on the bench) is giving up.
  18. CRAP! Quick 'n dirty highlights from Pittsburgh: PNC park is EVERYTHING it's cracked up to be, and more. Amazing park. Great views, great food options (Outback Steakhouse and Manny Sanguillen's Barbeque tonight, I'll have the Primanti Bros. tomorrow), friendly staff, tickets easily available and inexpensive (compared to Shea at least). Bobbleheads are given out to all fans, not just the 12-and-under set. Saw Omar M. walking across the Roberto Clemente bridge to the game, just like the rest of the fans. Said hi. Lots of Mets fans in the house, frequent and loud "Let's Go Mets" chants. Lots of Mets fans interacting with the players near the dugout during BP. They seemed to enjoy it. After Valentin's bunt and they brought in the righty, why did we stick with Franco and not go with a lefty pinch hitter?? We'll get them tomorrow!
  19. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Are you hoping that the AL Champion decides to forfeit the Series? I didn't say we needed to ignore the winner, but "scared" is a word I won't use to describe potential opponents. I hate those discussions.
  20. I didn't see "none" as an option.

  23. That sure looks like a Yankees jersey in that picture.
  24. Fun game, but I'd personally like to know where Jerry Manuel was, when he very badly needed to smack Willie upside the head and remind him that Tucker, Green and Endy Chavez -- who was brought into the game regardless! -- should be used as pinch hitters before Ricky Ledee. I would've also pinch-hit for Ledee the second time (with Tucker). Also, what the hell was Heath Bell doing warming up? Would he have seriously come into the game if we hadn't taken the lead? Umm, Pedro Feliciano anyone?
