You forgot to mention that he also appears at the moment to be at least 22 months pregnant. If true, we can expect another 12-fingered and 12-toed Alfonseca (apparently it's genetic -- many members of his family have the same condition).
  2. Was stuck in Florida last night due to weather-related flight cancellations from the weekend. Sorry 'bout the delay... What's New Since Last Time: Phillies split with Houston on Friday and Saturday before being rained out Sunday. They are still last in the division, with a 3-8 record. Starting Pitcher Matchups Monday: Rained Out. Tuesday: Freddy Garcia ® vs. Tom Glavine This is Garcia's first start of the year, having been acquired in the off-season from Chicago for key prospect Gavin Floyd. He was injured in late March in Spring Training. He's made two rehab starts before getting activated. Garcia is a hittable pitcher but over the past 6 years has turned in minimum 200 innings and 31 starts per year. His K:BB ratio stays around a fairly good 2.5 : 1. Garcia will give up the homer (32 last year) fairly frequently and this of course remains a concern given his home ballpark. Phillies Lineup No Changes: Jimmy Rollins (S) SS Shane Victorino (S) RF Chase Utley (L) 2B Ryan Howard (L) 1B Pat Burrell ® LF Wes Helms ® 3B Aaron Rowand ® CF Carlos Ruiz ® C Phillies Bullpen Update Ryan Madson ® Pitched a scoreless inning against the Mets but then gave up Carlos Lee's third homer on Friday night. Antonio Alfonseca ® Still solid and basically has the set-up man job locked in as his. Jon Lieber ® Didn't do real well in his second turn as a reliever, either. Who's Hot Rollins leads the NL with 6 homers. He had 2 off Glavine last week. Aaron Rowand is hitting .342. He's been on base 22 of 48 plate appearances...but only has 3 runs scored (a common problem for the Phillies to date). Who's Not Howard is walking a ton but hasn't gotten the power going (only HR to date was the opening-day shot vs. the Mets) or the average (.237) either.
  3. I think I read that player ranks are weighted for wins, so if players A and B of the same relative rank played on 100-win and 50-win teams, respectively, player A would have a higher rank. With that in mind, do we prorate service time? Ex. Shawn Green ranks in the 340s. He only played about 40 games with the Mets. Does he get the same weighting as LoDuca, who played the whole 2006 season?
  4. We do have people on our bench -- specifically, Endy -- who are just as good as Glavine at getting bunts down, and can hit a little too. Newhan is also a competent bunter I believe.
  5. Reyes 2 Smith 1
  6. I wondered too about Beltran. I got the feeling that he didn't think Rollins would go for 3 and might have gone after it harder otherwise.
  7. Sucked. Cold. Art Garfunkel sang the national anthem. I think Moises Alou would lose in a footrace to both LoDuca and Castro. With Alou getting a 2 step headstart. Slow running, slow in the outfield, shitty at the plate. I'd like to see Milledge get the token start in left tomorrow before he goes down. I know not everybody is Jose Reyes, but some sort of tangible sign from Moises that he cares about winning and losing would be nice. Not scoring Reyes in the first and Alou's DP killed us. Felt sorry for Oliver. Crowd tried to keep him in it as best they could but it was just too much. Willie got him out as soon as possible, they were clearing just waiting for Sele to be ready.
  8. Are you sure it was ELO? Sources seem to indicate that these are David's 4 songs: David Bowie - Fame Cassie - Me and You Big Pun - I'm Not a Player Julez Santana - The Second Coming
  9. I'm predicting Delgado's first homer tonight. Rain should hold off until well after the game is over. The second game of the year traditionally has the lowest paid attendance all year but judging by what tickets were available, I may not be able to pull off the self-upgrade I was planning on for tonight.
  10. I think I also read that Johjima has decent career numbers against Matsuzaka.

  15. 's ok. Just giving you a hard time.
  16. So when I posted -- about a dozen posts up in this thread -- that I had dutifully checked both sources -- you didn't believe me?
  17. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Wide disparity in voting for the home opener. It will be interesting to see what the final consensus looks like. Indeed. What I can't figure out is the Smith/Feliciano situation. Seems to be a variety of opinions as to what a quality inning of relief work is worth (anywhere from 0 to 1, according to the votes). The strange part is them being awarded different point values on some ballots...and other ballots that list one but not the other.
  18. Interest certainly hasn't waned for me -- I just haven't had time to do any lately.
  19. If you, like me, prefer the old gameday: http://6-4-2.blogspot.com/2007/04/dodgers-home-opener-gift-retro-gameday.html

  21. No idea. Only found about it in Marty Noble's notes column from today.

  24. Also of note: the players take the field to Vertigo, U2 and the song played after victories (this year's Takin' Care of Business) is I Just Want to Celebrate by Rare Earth. Entrance Music 2007 Relievers Billy Wagner - Enter Sandman, Metallica C Paul LoDuca - Stayin' Alive, Bee Gees; No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn, Beastie Boys IF Jose Reyes - Walk It Out, DJ Unk; This Is Why I'm Hot, Mims; two reggaeton beats, including one created by Reyes himself. David Wright - several, including Fame, David Bowie OF Moises Alou - Requests that no music be played. Carlos Beltran - El Esta Aqui, David y Abraham Shawn Green - Song 2, Blur; Be Yourself, Audioslave Bench Julio Franco - People Get Ready, Crystal Lewis
  25. Not sure Lou actually wrote that. "Yard-Work.org is a work of satire and parody intended for the entertainment of our reading audience. "
