  4. From reading the article, it sounds like the writer wasn't really trying to sell them at all. In the process of selling them he: (a) Documents giving away merchandise for free ( Proved to be utterly incapable of money management. How do you come up $29.75 short, even after getting at least $6 (as documented) in tips?
  5. We needed a PH for either Newhan or Gotay. You either use Alou or not play him in the field or you use LoDuca. I like getting the bench players ABs too, but when the game is on the line, do you use Moises Alou or do you use David Newhan? Loved that Moises was anxious to get in the game, too, just sittin' there, spittin the sunflower seeds. Both Ron and Gary said over the course of the game that because the Met bench had done well previously, that it was more likely that Newhan (Ron) or Gotay (Gary) would come up with a big hit. Somehow I missed that day of logic school, given that it was Castro/Easley/Franco who had been coming up with the hits off the bench.
  6. Can't believe Reyes didn't get an error on that play.

  9. Willets, maybe you're thinking of when Sosa did poorly against the Mets: http://retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2006/B04170NYN2006.htm IIRC, Delgado has great career numbers against Sosa. He homered in that game.

  11. Not sure it was interference. That stupid kid does suck though. He's ugly too. Glad to see Endy was determined to keep David Newhan from playing a defensive inning this year.

  13. Rally time...NOW!!! Reyes getting picked off = terrible.
  14. 102 was his last pitch to LoDuca (and his last pitch of the game, presumably).
  15. I think he just threw to the wrong base. Reyes was set up between second and third. Beltran probably could've helped him out too. Moises looked pretty bad though when he was unable to cut off that ball.

  18. We have 42 guys on the 40-man roster (above). Adkins was removed from the 40-man at the start of the season. Mota either doesn't count against the 40-man limit or isn't on it -- I'm not sure which the restricted list falls under. The organizational chart is still possibly the coolest thing ever. I always imagined that Omar had a huge one of those things -- on his wall, Josh Lyman-style.

  20. Plus, on versatility -- I don't see a great need. Reyes and Wright are going to play every day no matter what. As long as we have one player on the team who can play 2B/3B/SS for those very-occasional days off (ie. Easley) we're covered. Julio Franco can even play third if really necessary. It's May and Newhan hasn't played a defensive inning yet.
  21. It's not like we couldn't afford the money. He'd be a nice insurance policy on Alou getting hurt, too. I'd rather give up the cash, too, then lose a good prospect. If the Royals really want him gone, we should jump at the chance to get him.
  22. Jacque Jones (LH) and Reggie Sanders (RH) are both available for trade. Both are kinda expensive, but if the Cubs wanted to eat some money, Jones is intriguing (and under contract for '08). Sanders is a free agent but making $5 mil this year. I wouldn't be opposed to either as power-on-the-bench players.
