  1. That's, um, debatable.

  3. Dale Murphy and Andre Dawson come to mind as the two closest contenders.

While he can play center well, I think of Endy as spending a lot of time as the semi-regular left fielder this year. "Well" might be understating how Endy plays the OF. I'd argue he's the best defensive outfielder on the team (yes, better than Beltran). Besides, if Alou and Beltran were somehow both out at the same time, I would fully expect Chavez to be in center anyway.
  5. That was a guess!
  6. Keith Miller is the Bruce fan.

  8. Edgy DC wrote: VH-1 is dead wrong that it's a magic hit single that propels bands to stadium-sized audiences. Yeah, I thought Mark Knopfler was kinda outta place among the Springsteens, U2s, etc.
  9. Of course, they used some 2005 or 2006-era Shea footage introducing the clip. 70,000 seems a touch generous on the audience size.
  10. There was a note on Metsblog that said that Carlos Gomez got married this winter. No idea of a name/picture 'cause I'm not a subscriber to Baseball America, where the article with the info originated from.

  12. Some updated information: Mezzanine Reserved prices were actually $47/$39/$35/$27/$23. I have updated the table. Upper Reserved prices for 2008: $35 - Platinum $25 - Gold $20 - Silver $10 - Bronze $5 - Value
  13. Frayed Knot wrote: No one's saying you have to like the increases. But sports fans are too often under the impression that the laws of supply and demand should get suspended when it comes to ticket prices I don't think it's necessarily a stretch to suggest that adhering to the law of supply and demand only is not appropriate for things like entertainment, the arts, professional sports, etc. Without some checks on pricing, the law of supply and demand would simply remove a certain portion of the population's access to them and such things would effectively be reserved for the wealthy and super-wealthy.
  14. Frayed Knot wrote: and the mistaken assumption that record and seat price should somehow directly correspond. There's nothing mistaken about that. Where is the money going from the increased ticket prices? What improvements have they made to the game experience at Shea? (Answer: none). What improvements have they made to the product on the field? (Answer: none). What reasonable justification do they have for so arbitrarily raising the prices? (Answer: none). In fairness, more even than the ticket price increase, I'm pissed as a plan holder because they supposedly give us a "pre-sale" for single game tickets. But then they exclude the games (opening day, last game of the season, Yankees games) that I would actually use the benefit for. I mean, I'm already buying 25 games. They can't even give me the presale access for opening day, I have to enter the lottery like everyone else who isn't investing in the ticket plans?
  15. No, they haven't officially announced the prices yet but since I got my renewal invoice for my ticket plan much of the information can be deduced or is available if you count up the little boxes on the schedule they sent. Ticket Price Categories In 2003, the Mets introduced a system by which they would sell tickets in different pricing categories. For the 2008 season, the Mets are increasing the number of games in the highest pricing categories. Look for the same ridiculous "lottery" they used last year to return, for the aforementioned games. [Edit: I don't know why there are huge spaces between the text and the HTML tables. Can anyone assist? Yes. Done. Just don't put line breaks between the tags in your tables.
  16. Don't remember. I was only skimming the thing.
  17. The geniuses preparing the report take great pains to redact Radomski's address, but leave his phone number right there for anyone to have?

  19. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: No, I wouldta cut Chavez, I just thought it was a possibility. What's increasingly difficult to imagine though is how Chavez may deserve a roster slot on the 08 Mets ahead of a right-handed hitting OF, especially now with Church at the corner. Let's also not forget that Chavez did a good bit of reversion to the mean last season. Not in speed 'n defense, though. As a 25th man, a speedy guy who is also the best defensive outfielder in the league isn't too shabby. With Alou on the roster, having him around for defense seems good, although I will admit to preferring somebody else for the every-day time when Alou goes down with his inevitable 6-week injury.
  20. The other Yankees being named are Kyle Farnsworth, Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon.
  21. ="Benjamin Grimm"]The Mets, as heirs to the Brooklyn Dodgers (and the New York Giants too) would be the team to name a ballpark after Jackie Robinson. It would make no sense at all for the Yankees to do it. It would be like the Mets naming a ballpark after Derek Jeter. Naming something after Robinson would be to honor something far greater than his playing for a particular team. Hence, it wouldn't be inappropriate for ANY team to name their stadium after him. Granted, taking potshots at the Mets for taking naming rights $$ is fairly silly given that it's a fairly common practice these days. I will of course choose to ignore the corporate name and just call it "Shea." If the media wanted to, they could (aren't there several news organizations that refuse to use "Redskins" when talking about the Washington football team)?

  24. Of course, in that article, he notes how a new one is going to be built.
  25. Very cool indeed. How about the other 10 to Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition.
