  1. There's no evidence that the Mets had any particular plan, nor is there any evidence to suggest Meija failed to meet expectations. In fact, he was very good as a reliever (18 Hits and 8 BBs in 17 1/3 IP, 14Ks, 2.60 ERA).

In more fun news, Tampa won in the 11th on a walkoff squeeze bunt.

  10. In all seriousness, Oliver's music is "I'm Gonna Get You" by Bizarre, Inc. (I guess there are plenty of jokes to be made there as well).

Has this always been the case, and I've just now noticed? Started last year after Jackson's death. Still uses "Smooth" by Carlos Santana/Rob Thomas as the warming-up-to-pitch music of course.
  12. Personally, I think the over-reliance on Youtube is part of the problem itself.
  13. That list must be several years old and is hardly definitive as it lists Jason Bay as a member of the Pirates. Bay's music is, by the way, "The Fixer" by Pearl Jam. He rocks it every single at-bat, the way Carlos Beltran does with his Christian salsa music.
  14. The total lack of accountability for umpires is an abject failure on the part of MLB and one the first things I'd rectify if I were commissioner.
  15. From the Mets: Rod Barajas easily has the best music, alternating between "California Love" (Tupac & Dre) and "Low Rider" (War). Jeff Francoeur uses a bunch of country I can't recognize but then for his 4th plate appearance, uses a part of "Baba O'Riley" which is a good choice, and I like because it doesn't use the beginning of the song but rather from the middle. John Maine's use of "Here Comes the Hotstepper" (Ini Kamoze) always makes me laugh. Btw, Jose Reyes does indeed commission his own reggateon at-bat music with his friends.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: You're not suggesting that a bullpen assignment necessarily means the end of his career, but rather that it should be used to effect that? Is that the distinction? I think the distinction is that the bullpen assignment, and the way he is used in said assignment could mean the effective end of his career.
  17. RHP reliever in. Gotta PH Carter here, no?
  18. Edgy DC wrote: I certainly don't think it's true that a bullpen assignment necessarily means the effective end of his career. Nobody suggested that. My idea was that if Oliver ties the Mets' hands, they should respond by relegating him to the darkest corner of the bullpen and using him so infrequently that he becomes marginalized as a player.
  19. Omar and Jerry need to take him into an office and advise him that his options are: 1. Go to the minors, figure out how to pitch and one day earn your way back to the starting rotation here; or 2. Go hire a financial advisor to figure out how to save that remaining $20 million, because you're going to the bullpen, will pitch only in emergent circumstances and will see so little action that your career as a major league pitcher will effectively be over.
  20. This season, maybe. The slow to return from injury thing, both in 03-04 and 09 was really frustrating but once recovered he's had no problem staying healthy for extended periods of time (158.25 games/season was his average from 2005-2008). Hitting in the 3 spot in the order -- right now -- clearly isn't working and I'm sure he was rushed back to the team before he was really ready this year.
  21. I fell asleep in the third inning with no score. I wake up to this. Blech.
