I still can't figure out why there hasn't been any new movement on sending him to AAA. We know he has talent and they've invested the bucks; I don't understand why we can't get him down there to pitch regularly. I know he balked at the idea back in May but now that we've seen what's happened since his pseudo-DL stint is over, I think they need to take another shot at getting this done.
  6. Pre-game ceremony was really nice, as expected. I thought the Mets did a nice job coordinating it and putting some thought into it. The game was atrocious and came dangerously close to putting me in that "ok, I'm done for the year" thread we have going elsewhere on the board. I saw Valdes warming up in the 9th inning and about blew a gasket. Once you've given up on the game (and we had when we pulled David and Jose), that's fine, but you then use your starter-cum-mopup man for the rest of the game, no matter what happens (save injury or a 150-pitch count).
  7. I want Jerry gone as much as the next person but this was Valdes sucking, not Jerry over-managing. And what a sucking it was. I'm sure there have been worse relief outings but this was as bad as I can remember. Game also featured the longest David Wright homer I've ever seen. Was announced as 465 feet.

Nobody, really. I believe the perception at the time was that it was a buyer's market and Omar actually got Frankie for less than it might have cost in other years -- compare to the Francisco Cordero deal with the Reds (4 years, $46 million, signed after the 2007 season).
  9. Yes. 4.041 years of ML service before this year.
  10. It's like the bats turn off after 9 innings.
  11. One more hit and we're right back in the game. Let's go Jeff.
  12. Going 3-2 on the opposing pitcher is totally unacceptable. Throw a freaking strike!

  15. It was like somebody flipped the switch from "off" to "on" tonight. Citi Field was surprisingly full but mostly quiet which was kind of strange. Lots of Cardinal fans in attendance, many of whom who I ran in to seemed to be doing the House of Evil (this past weekend) - Citi doubleheader. Very happy to stick it to Wainwright.
  16. Also Jerry's been suspended for tonight's game as a result of the umpire incident in LA. (Source: Andy McCulloch twitter).

The NYC results are not always very telling. You can get violation points for "Choking first aid' poster not posted" just as easily as you can for "rats present." I paged through and there were a lot of what I would consider minor violations (ie. choking poster not visible) that add up. I'm not clear on what exactly defines a "critical" violation.
  18. Those late (and extra) inning at-bats by the Mets were just AWFUL, save perhaps Pagan's walk off of Broxton. They looked (and played) like they had given up. Forget the strategy failures, or the lack of hitting or the long roadtrip, that's got to stop. I think struggles on a long roadtrip is a perfect example of the self-fufilling prophecy. Everybody looks at the schedule, sees 11 games on the west coast and automatically starts thinking about the travel, and the being-away-from-home and that of course, it's going to be tough and the team is going to do badly...and then set themselves up to do just that. I've had a fantastic time following around the team on this roadtrip but getting the chance to watch them up close for an extended period of time here has left me very unhappy in the effort and energy being put forth. Losses happen but what they're doing is unacceptable.
  19. I know it's hot and all but I've already seen three instances of a distinct lack of Met hustle: Reyes failing to field Furcal's single in the first; Castillo failing to run after Pelfrey's errant pickoff throw; and Pagan failing to chase after DeWitt's triple. Totally unacceptable.
