As for #1, there's no reason to find any starts for Hu because he's not any good. Is he supposed to sit Reyes or Murphy? I suppose Hu could have gotten a start or two that went to Emaus or Turner instead but it's been pretty well established that Hu can't hit, at all.
  2. There's no question that Citi Field doesn't have the same atmosphere as even a half-empty Shea. This was immediately apparent even in the early part of 2009, when the park was full every night and there was no reason for despair.
  3. Shin-Shoo Choo also busted for DUI. He blew a .201!!! Seriously, there is just NO EXCUSE for this shit. You're not poor; call a cab.
  4. So did I, but will of course be honoring it. Ike is currently 8th in the NL with 6 home runs; 2 of which were on the road.
  5. Reyes 3.5 Beltran 2.5 Gee 1 Davis 1 Rodriguez 1 Wright .5 Isringhausen .33
  6. Lots of Giants fans in the ballpark tonight which makes things that much more unpleasant. We really deserved to lose after screwing up the 9th so badly. Additionally, I am really starting to tire of Chin Lung Hu, who apparently cannot hit major league pitching. If Reyes is going to play essentially every game, we don't need a backup shortstop unless he gets hurt, in which case we can make a roster move at that point. Additionally, I bet Turner could cover if necessary. He has provided essentially no value to the team. Thole really embarassed himself with his defense tonight. The three hits were great but any value they provided were negated by the rally-killing GIDPs. I was disappointed with the bullpen management tonight, particularly in not putting Rodriguez back out for a second inning. I also might have left Gee in, rather than yanking him to have Isringhausen pitch to only one batter (the pitcher's spot was due up second the next inning). --- I recognize that the Mets (and Fred, in particular) are very supportive of the military and veterans. I always welcome an organized military appreciation night, and really, if you've got active duty personnel on leave who get to go to the game for the night, I'm always in favor of them throwing out the first pitch. Thanks for your brave service. But the "We-Killed-Bin-Laden" aura of the night, with the awful, awful hats and the intolerable "God Bless America" and putting Chris Young on the diamondvision to talk 30 seconds of nonsense about how this is a "historic day" was downright offensive. I realize that everybody is going to react to the news in a different, personal way and I am happy to allow for that. For example, I broke out the Johnny Walker Blue on Sunday night as a toast to those responsible for conducting that brave mission. But to have the organized celebration at the BASEBALL game was way out of line.

I've always wished the Mets (or any other team) would have the balls to just play that instead one Sunday. It would obviously paint MLB into a corner (could they really complain about that song versus the inferior GBA?).

His MARKET value is probably closer to $10M, if he kicks major butt. His TRUE value is even lower. For comparison's sake, here are some 2011 Salaries: Rivera $15M Cordero $12M Papelbon $12M (arbitration) Rodriguez $11.5M Lidge $11.5M Nathan $11.25M Bell $7.5M (arbitration) Street $7.3M Broxton $7M Valverde $7M Soria $4M
  11. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: That's 4 1/3 steaks a night... about one per pitching change. Jebus. Let's break this down: We can assume that Racaniello isn't getting the same per diem the players, so he's definitely more motivated to get to the park early for the free food there. Additionally, we know Racaniello is David Wright's wingman, so if they were out (even just at the hotel bar) after the game on Friday, a cheesesteak to start the day on Saturday might just be perfect. 1. Friday, 2:00 PM, lunch. 2. Friday, 7:30 PM, dinner, after the game starts (2nd inning or so). 3. Friday, post-game. 4. Saturday breakfast/hangover cure, 9:00 AM. 5. Saturday, 1:30 PM, lunch after the game starts (2nd inning or so). 6 and 7. Saturday, post-game dinner. 8. Sunday, 1:00 PM, lunch. 9. Sunday, 4:30 PM, snack 10. Sunday, 8:30 PM, dinner after the game starts. 11. Sunday, 11:00 PM, extra-innings snack 12 and 13. Monday morning, 1:00 AM, post-game meal I myself could probably do that. He'd need to go 15+ in a three-game series for me to be really impressed.
  12. Young 2 Paulino 3.5 Beato 1.5 Buchholz 1.5 Rodriguez .75 Wright .75
  13. Buchholz has to hit. Capuano was on deck temporarily.
  14. Nice inning by Buchholz as we go to 14...
  15. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Dickey, no? What's the point of having a knuckleballer, if not to have him on-call 24-7 Starting Tuesday. Although you could skip him.
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: So we've got just Thole left plus Buchholz and some combo if Gee/Capuano Igarashi too, no? The are throwing Kendrick next. Should have one more reliever after him.
  17. Bunch of people in the upper deck wearing "disguises" and shirts (one letter each) which say "Bobby is my Valentine." Hershiser (who was on the '99 team) and Bobby reminiscing. Apparently Ventura was a part of the idea. The fine was $10k.
  18. Really disappointed in Collins with that decision.
  19. Now we bring in Rodriguez??!?
  20. Multiple reports that Obama about to announce that Bin Laden is dead.
  21. I go to Rodriguez for 2 innings.
  22. I thought it was a strike even if Schneider didn't swing (which he DID)
  23. Young getting squeezed by Jim Wolf.
