  3. BOOKS!
  4. If it can be proven that Burkhardt is responsible for the Stiller interview, I am fine with him being fired immediately.
  5. Jerry Stiller: embarrassing. Extremely embarrassing.
  6. Yep. I am of the mind that Seinfeld is one of the most wildly overrated television shows of all time but even I know that's not right.
  7. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: The timing/length of the in-game pieces is suspect, and there's often an inordinate amount of praise for opposing players who are doing well during a particular series. Also, his understanding of the game can be poor and almost ostentatiously (willfully?) "jock"y. I don't see his understanding as poor. I agree he praises opposing teams' players too much but it would be disingenuous to call Burkhardt out on that without also calling Darling out for the same thing.
  8. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: the combined negative mojo of Guys! I watch about as many games on SNY as the next person. Can someone explain to me what exactly the problem with Burkhardt is? (No, seriously. I don't get what people have against him).

  11. I can deal with opposing teams fans, and even the obnoxious ones. But the stupid ones? Drives me nuts. Dodger fans sitting behind us cheering loudly at every ball or strike; I choose my spots, such as making a crack about Loney needing that much luck to get a hit when his grounder up the middle struck the second base bag and caromed away from Jose. Fan proceeds to tell me how Loney is a great player, good for "15-20 homers, .290 a year*, AND that he's "the best defensive first baseman in the league." I suggest otherwise, citing Pujols and Davis; he dismisses this as impossible. Best part was him ripping on Jason Pridie right before the homer. As soon as it goes out I start celebrating as if I've won the Powerball. Good times. *(I also was pretty sure Loney had never hit 20 homers in a season (he's never even topped 15) but AT&T has awful signal at the ballpark and checking baseball reference on an iPhone was not possible at the time)
  12. Seconded. He's clearly fully healthy and productive.
  13. He threw out the first pitch tonight, and did a nice job. Call me crazy, but I didn't find it essential to announce to the entire crowd how his father was killed. I would've been OK with him announced as "Mets fan for life" rather than "Child of firefighter killed at WTC."
  14. Good thing the only lefty in the Dodgers bullpen is Hong-Chi Kuo, the 8th Inning Guy™, who may now have been promoted to Closer™.

I think Cleveland's sellout streak ended in 2001; they were on a decline since then, with an uptick in 2007. Cleveland averaged 28,448 per game in 2007 (their most recent winning season), which is 65.6% of capacity. 27,122 (60.4%) the following season. That's nowhere near the top but it's not empty either. Economy or not, team performance is still the key factor in attendance.
  16. I started crunching this data but never got around to finishing. I would measure Rodriguez's effectiveness by seeing where his appearances fall in each of the 7 categories below: Clean Innings - Tied or Leading Clean Innings - Trailing Unclean Innings - No Runs Allowed Unclean Innings - Runs Allowed, didn't give up lead Unclean Innings - Runs Allowed, game now tied Unclean Innings - Runs Allowed, blew save/gave up lead Unclean Innings - Walkoff loss
  17. There are exceptions for TV, plus exceptions for the fact that the Cubs mostly play during the day, or that it's hot in Miami and Arlington in the summer, etc. Basic agreement is a fascinating read. PDF here.
  18. Wow, really stepping out a limb there buddy. Next you're going to tell me that the sun is gonna set in the West this afternoon...

  20. Giants fans in attendance even more douchier than last night. I've always percieved that many, in contrast to what happened with the Dodgers, former New York Giants fans (and their issue) stuck with the team even as they played in another city. That combined with the bandwagon effect (plus I'm sure some fans choosing to visit NY from SF) contributed to what seemed like the Mets fans being outnumbered. The 2-6-2 double play was cool, and I was glad to see Capuano have a good outing. Other than that...
