  2. If the money is a sunk cost (it is) and the Mets aren't going anywhere this year (they aren't) then I would just continue to play him every day this year. You bring him in, sit him down and tell him that he's got until the end of the year to show he's a quality player. If not, he's going to be nothing more than a backup going forward from now until the end of this horrible contract, and that Duda/Evans/Murphy/whomever is going to be the starter.
  3. Beltran 2 Gee 2 Murphy 1 Pagan 1 Paulino 1 Isringhausen 1 Parnell 1 Reyes .5 Turner .5
  4. The emergency catcher was Nick Evans, who came out to warm up Parnell in the 8th. He had a mask on but still, I'm not sure I'd want my debut catching experience to include catching Parnell's fastballs. When Murphy lined out to short in the 5th with the bases loaded he took off his helmet and held it over his face as he proceeded to let loose a long string of expletives. The helmet went flying when he returned to the dugout as well. If this is Beltran's swan song for the Mets it's not a bad way to go out. I'd like to see him crack one more homer.

When you clicked on the link, the price automatically jumped to $10 (they didn't disclose the $3 service charge). 2. Apparently the 7 was also the number of tickets they made available at this price as they were gone instantly. While it was a large crowd tonight there were still tons of empty seats that they Mets did not price at $10.
  6. Apologies for a less-than-thorough KTE; was expecting to do this last night but unexpected stuff got in the way. Tony LaRussa The Cardinals are perennially competitive and while there are some mitigating factors (weak division), credit must go to Tony LaRussa. He's been there 16 seasons now and has only had 3 losing seasons, none with 90+ losses. He's still an ornery, cranky guy who hits his pitcher 8th in the lineup. This Year Cardinals are 50-45 which is good for second in the NL central, tied with Milwaukee and a half-game back of Pittsburgh. This Series The good news this series is that we miss both Chris Carpenter and Jaime Garcia, the Cardinals' two best starters. Adam Wainwright is out for the year (had Tommy John surgery in February). Pitching Matchups Tue: Kyle Lohse ® v. Dillon Gee Lohse is 8-6, 3.32 ERA. Not a lot of walks or strikeouts; pitches to contact and has been pretty successful this year. Wed: Kyle McClellan ® v. RA Dickey McClellan is 6-6, 4.24 ERA. He also doesn't strike out very many guys and has been less successful pitching to contact (1.33 WHIP and 13 homers). Thu: Jake Westbrook ® v. Jon Niese 12:10 EDT start for this game. Westbrook is 7-4, 5.26 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. No reason why we can't knock this guy around a bit. Cardinals starters: C - Yadier Molina ® .723 OPS. Very good defensively. 1B - Albert Pujols ® .860 OPS Having a "down" year (20 HR, 55 RBI, .278). Came back a couple of weeks ago from a fractured left radius. 2B - Skip Schumaker (L) .663 OPS 3B - David Freese ® .793 OPS. SS - Ryan Theroit ® .673 OPS. LF - Matt Holliday ® Missed time with an appendectomy earlier in the year but healthy now. Still very dangerous at the plate. .987 OPS. CF - Colby Rasmus (L) .730 OPS RF - Lance Berkman (S) .995 OPS (leads NL). Totally rejuvenated season with the Cardinals this year. His 25 homers also leads the NL. Bullpen: Fernando Salas ® is the closer (5-3, 17 saves, 2.56 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 45 innings), having taken over early in the year from the badly ineffective (and since released) Ryan Franklin. Other key relievers: Jason Motte ® (36 IP, 2.50 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, 35 Ks) Mitchell Boggs ® (33 IP, 3.24 ERA, 33Ks, 11 BB, 29 H) Trever Miller (L) (15 IP, 4.02 ERA and 1.72 WHIP). Ex-Mets: Raul Valdes (L) is in the Cardinals 'pen as well. Ex-Cardinals: Jason Isringhausen was the St. Louis closer from 2001-2008.
  7. You don't really think that Fred's gonna pay for that, do you? (I would have recommended helicopter).
  8. Ceetar wrote: You gonna subject him to the BQE at rush hour? that seems cruel. Most direct route is Belt Parkway to the Van Wyck. (Super-advanced-I hate-sitting-in-traffic route: Ocean Avenue - Empire Boulevard - E. New York Avenue - Jackie Robinson Parkway - Grand Central).
  9. Ceetar wrote: Pitching wasn't great this weekend, but it was the offense that did the Mets in. And it's not like you tip your hat to cy young winners, it was Worley and Kendrick, both of who the Mets have hit, and should hit. I totally disagree. They scored 5 runs Sunday (enough to win most games) and of course there were no offense problems on Saturday. Yes, the Mets should have scored more runs off Worley but they would have needed 8 to win on Friday and 9 to win on Sunday. That's because the pitching is the problem.
  10. I find myself with an extra ticket for tomorrow's game against the Marlins if anyone wants one (send me a PM).
  11. Learned during the Saturday broadcast: both Niese and Pridie got engaged over the all star break.
  12. That was my first choice at the time.
  13. Who wins in the pool? I think somebody had that line exactly.
  14. Beltran 1 Murphy 1 Byrdak 1 Don't forget Tim. He did his job and got 5 outs.
  15. Really disheartening loss. This is the reminder game that we're not that good. We held Rollins, Utley and Howard to 1-13 with a walk, and they still scored 7 runs. Lost in his mistakes (the Tejada error should've gone to him for failure to cover second promptly) were two very nice plays by Turner, in the 4th on Ruiz's grounder and in the 8th on Ibanez's grounder. Loved the Beltran bomb as we're not going to get very many more of those. I was unimpressed with the "pyrotechnics;" I remember them being better last year.
  16. Ceetar wrote: I remember hearing about a second shake shack that never materialized. Unfounded rumor, as clearly indicated in the link you provided.
  17. Ceetar wrote: They tried before 2010 to do so I think and for whatever reason didn't happen. Maybe a space thing? They never tried any such thing. They added Blue Smoke and Box Frites to the Promenade Level for 2010. There is no space concern.
  18. The #1 most needed improvement to Citi Field is not a change to the outfield walls but rather a second location (food court behind home plate on the promenade level?) for the Shake Shack. I'm sure there are lots of good reasons ("scarcity" increasing "popularity" or some such nonsense) why Danny Meyer and the Mets won't do this but it's just stupid. I want a freaking burger without having to wait 3 innings to get it.
  19. This is one of those maps that makes no sense. St. Louis gets the NL game but not Milwaukee, Cincinnati or Pittsburgh.
  20. Send a PM if you want to see the Mets and fireworks gratis
  21. David goes 0-1 with a walk in his 5 innings. Jason Isringhausen gets the save tonight.
  22. Ceetar wrote: the crap they get back The whole point is that Beltran is only going if they can get something OTHER than crap back.
  23. Jose Bautista. You might also have been confusing him with Tony Batista (remember him, with the big open stance?).
