  1. Last win vs. the White Sox was Pedro Astacio. Last player acquired from the Yankees was Felix Heredia. Last Met to play 162 games was John Olerud. (That's a trick question, right? There were 163 games in 1999 but he played 162 of them).
  2. Is this one answer per person? Or do you want a whole list of guesses for each question?
  3. Mike Hampton was the last Met to pitch a postseason complete game.
  4. Nate McLouth: now is your chance to be an American hero.
  5. First two men on in the 8th for the Orioles. If not now, then never.
  6. No baserunners for either team through the first 3 innings.
  7. Miguel Batista for the D-Backs. And...maybe Ramiro Mendoza for the Yankees?
  8. The Yankees can always cut him but I can't forsee any situation -- prior to 2017 at the earliest -- where the Yankees would not have to eat 90% of the remaining money. I put my vote in for "plays out the contract." I expect him to be a part-time player by then - DHing against lefty pitchers only -- but still in the Bronx.
  9. Courtesy ESPN: Verlander: 89 Koufax, 1965 World Series, Game 7: 88 Jack Morris: 84 Chris Carpenter, 2011 NLDS vs. Philadelphia, Game 5: 84 Ralph Terry, 1962 World Series, Game 7: 83 Cliff Lee, 2010 ALDS, Game 5: 82 John Smoltz, 1991 NLCS, Game 7: 82 Orel Hershisher, 1988 NLCS, Game 7: 80 Bob Gibson, 1967 World Series, Game 7: 80 Dizzy Dean, 1934 World Series, Game 7: 80

I used to think the Heath Bell/Royce Ring deal was the worst of Omar's moves but the Putz deal was probably worse. Jason Vargas just had his third consecutive effective season of 30+ starts for Seattle.
  11. Another Verlander fun fact: Game score of 89 was the highest ever for a pitcher in "winner goes on, loser goes home" playoff game. Previous best was Koufax in the 1965 World Series, Game 7.
  12. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Cabrera underachieving all year but somehow there at the end. Wait, what? Dude had a triple crown, and certainly didn't win it just with his September stats. (Had better OPS in July and August both). The problem with the Tigers was they got substantially less production out of Catcher, Shortstop and DH (remember, Victor Martinez was out all year) than they did last year.
  13. Top 3 side-winding relief pitchers that Omar Minaya screwed up and let go: 3. Chad Bradford Ok, fair, he was a free agent and wanted lots of dough. But the 2007 Mets really could've used him. Plus, the money saved by not signing Bradford was used to sign...wait for it...Scott Schoeneweis. 2. Joe Smith Traded away for JJ Putz. Just finished his fourth consecutive effective season with Cleveland for $3.475 million. No, that's not the per-year salary; that's the total salary over all 4 seasons. 1. Darren O'Day see above
  14. Couldn't get any more than 6 but Tigers looking good regardless.
  15. I hope this is where the Orioles gain an advantage, having outlasted Soriano and Robertson.

  17. Jason Werth walk-off homer wins game 4 for the Nationals. I want them to win the series...but not this way. I feel dirty now.
  18. Ticket prices went up from 2006 to 2007, 2007 to 2008 and 2008 to 2009. Those were not all "supply/demand" increases but rather a calculated attempt to increase price levels before the new park opened. I do agree that the season ticket base is buying tickets irrespective of the team's performance. However, your other points are belied by the fact that the attendance dropped again this year, from last and from the year prior.
  19. Gets him on pitch #12. Now down to Scott Rolen.
  20. Epic turn at bat for Bruce. Has fouled 8 pitches off, now full count.
  21. I think the Megdal stuff has grown tired on both ends. A discussion of the Mets' ticket prices, is, however, a topic ripe for discussion.* *in my opinion
  22. Cozart walk. Votto single. Tying run at the plate for a fourth consecutive inning. Last chance here for Cincinnati...
  23. Whatever, ignore the person who wrote it and focus on the facts: The Mets froze season ticket prices if you renewed early (not mentioned in the article). Apparently they are going up if you buy a new plan now. Nothing reported re: single-game prices. Any raise in ticket prices is absurd at this point, for obvious reasons. The idea that the Mets had "steep cuts" in prices in recent years is a red herring because it fails to acknowledge the "steeper increases" that immediately preceded them, with the switch from Shea to Citi.

  25. 5-2 San Francisco in the middle of the 5th inning. Our old friend Pagan having a good game, 2-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and a walk.
