  1. After giving it some careful thought, I'm just fine with Cincinnati breaking that record.

Liking the Ottavino slider is fine if he hadn't thrown in each of the past 2 games. Lugo is pretty good against righties too and wasn't gassed. From April 25 through today, May 4, Lugo pitched 2.2 innings, with 23 total pitches. He had capacity and Ottavino did not.
  4. I am very puzzled by Ottavino as the first call to the bullpen. If you're Buck, and this is a high leverage situation that calls for a “circle of trust” reliever, then you need to use Lugo. If you're Buck and this is you're “the guy who needs work pitches” then you go to Williams or Medina from the start. No situation seems to justify Ottavino.

  6. My favorite reliever since…Duaner? No cabs, Drew. Order room service.
  7. This was for intentionally throwing at Schwarber, not for the St. Louis games.
  8. 1 game for Buck, 3 for Yoan Lopez. He's going to need some more donations from Lindor and Escobar.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: He's an ex-agent, so not currently an agent of anyone. Newsday has a quote from Van Wegenen today, identifying him as Cano's current agent, as COO of Roc Nation sports: https://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/robinson-cano-dfa-mets-roster-cuts-q7dizz3dhttps://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/mets/robinson-cano-dfa-mets-roster-cuts-q7dizz3d
  10. Here I would have taken a pitch, Brandon.
  11. It is absolute madness for Dom Smith to not be able to bunt and take a free hit when the team is down 3 runs and needs baserunners.
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: Except that he first-pitch swung in every AB tonight. Kind of ruins the surprise angle. My scorecard says he took the first two pitches in the 5th when he walked.
  13. It's an all-Einstein crew here in Section 319 tonight: -Guy who insists on saying “that's not a strike” (actually, ump is having a great night) -Guy who keeps saying “that's not a $341 million dollar swing” every time Lindor swings and misses. -Guy who wants to boo Familia for everything. -Guy who keeps saying “think Alex Gordon. It cost us the series!” when Alonso is facing Familia. They just threw a no-hitter, it's a close game, and the Mets have more wins than anyone in MLB. Sometimes I worry about our fanbase.
  14. =bmfc1 post_id=90903 time=1651369987 user_id=73] Down 2, leading off, why did Nimmo swing at the 1st pitch?
  15. Nice play by Lindor but then a textbook rundown by Escobar. Well done.
  16. Nimmo, after sliding in safely, did a *great* celebratory spike of his helmet. Unexpected for Brandon (but great).
  17. =whippoorwill post_id=90883 time=1651364603 user_id=79] I'm sorry. This does not impress me At all
  18. Just a great night at the park. Crowd didn't really seem to be aware of it until the 7th when Rodriguez got the double play. But they got it in the 8th and 9th and it was a great atmosphere. Nimmo's catch was very impressive to the naked eye. McNeil's single was HUGE but Canha's double set it up first, also to huge appreciation from the crowd. Alonso was PUMPED after his home run. Drew Smith is firmly entrenched within the bullpen circle of trust. Good to see Buck try to keep the no-no by putting in Smith and Jankowski for defense in the 9th. LGM
  19. Spotted here tonight: Darryl S., to a big round of applause.
  20. Does Joely go back out for the first two lefties in the 8th?
  21. Disagree. Assuming the allegations are proven (under the standard for MLB investigations) then the punishment makes sense. Because, assuming again the allegations have been proven, there is a total lack of contrition, as well as aggravating circumstances (eg. previous instances of poor judgment, imprudent/improper behavior on social media).
  22. This is not legal advice, but: there are often limitations on the ability to sue when you are an employee under a CBA, e.g., the idea is that you have a grievance/appeal process under the agreement that your union collectively bargained for. But Bauer has also hired a top flight litigation firm and has sued his accuser as well as a couple of different media outlets…so a suit against MLB, even if it had an inherent low chance of success, would not be a giant shock.
  23. Bauer is certainly going to appeal, and may well sue MLB as well. It could well be that they are starting here expecting that it could be “settled” for something less.
