  1. Adeiny we didn't see coming, yet here he is.
  2. I like where Raissman quotes himself.

  5. Raissman wrote Figueroa was a ticking timebomb, thanks to SNY repeatedly ignoring him, or something like that.
  6. "With the Mets giving away another game, Derek, is it CHRISTMASTIME IN WALLACE, QUEENS?"
  7. "The loss was tough, Derek, but is there something Mets fans can TAKE WALLACE IN?"
  8. Leary would be good in that SNY strains to pun-brand every other segment a la DUQ IT OUT. "I'M LEARY OF THIS" definitely fits their standards. Perhaps "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hello,_LarryHELLO, LEARY," depending on how old they're targeting their demos. I got Derek Wallace. Hmm... http://www.derrickdollsalumni.org/DEREK'S DOLL (star of the game) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Up_Against_the_Wall_MotherfuckerUP AGAINST THE WALLACE, METSIE FUDGERS (taking players to task) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stand_in_the_Schoolhouse_DoorIN THE SHEA HOUSE DOOR (Derek makes a defiant last stand against unrelenting progress)
  9. ...means the departure of Daniel Zamora to Syracuse.
  10. Actual headline on mets.com's game story last night: Mets drop series but gain perspective in LA The Department of Euphemisms heartily approves. As a White Sox-intensive blogger I like recently noted, "every headline" these team sites publish "combines the bland with the obvious. Players and the team are forever bouncing back or getting back on track or looking to [fill in the blank]."
  11. Vargas is to be commended. His teammates are to be condemned.
  12. Taylor SS Muncy 3B Freese 1B Bellinger RF Hernandez 2B Verdugo CF Martin C Beaty LF Ryu SP (7-1, 1.65 ERA)
  13. To paraphrase from Southern California-based Fast Times at Ridgemont High, another night at Dodger Stadium...I can't. But probably will. Amed Rosario – SS J.D. Davis – LF Michael Conforto – RF Pete Alonso – 1B Todd Frazier – 3B Carlos Gómez – CF Adeiny Hechavarría – 2B Tomás Nido – C Jason Vargas – LHP
  14. New York Sports appears to be one crammed time capsule, which in itself is pretty cool. A little busy, but so was the New York sporting scene in the summer of 1984 (though isn't it always?). Great that Darryl was game for pointing his weapon like another weapon. Doc on the cover of Time, though...that's next-level fame. Too bad there was more of a Time jinx than SI jinx where he was concerned.
  15. 19TH HR: Hundley: 72nd game of 1996 Beltran: 69th game of 2006 Alonso: 55th game of 2019 Kingman: 52nd game of 1976 Gotta love those San Gabriel Mountains.
  16. 18TH HR: Hundley: 65th game of 1996 Beltran: 63rd game of 2006 Alonso: 55th game of 2019 Dave Kingman hit his 18th home run of 1976 in the Mets' 52nd game...also his 19th and 20th. It was his three-homer game at Dodger Stadium. Maybe Pete will be similarly inspired by those picturesque San Gabriel Mountains.
  17. Amed Rosario – SS Dominic Smith – LF Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF Wilson Ramos – C Todd Frazier – 3B Carlos Gómez – CF Adeiny Hechavarría – 2B Noah Syndergaard - RHP Dom to LF!
  18. Stockholm does not wish to tacitly endorse violence.
  19. Dr. K could twist batters into any letter of the alphabet he chose.
  20. Rajai has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Syracuse. Can declare himself a free agent. Let's hope he stays and returns.
  21. Sean Burnett has announced his retirement. He grew up a Mets fan, he mentioned.
  22. It appears the pitcher and catcher are dueling at 60 1/2 paces. New York knew it was doing a big Mets piece well in advance. Life responded to a developing story. I don't know that it speaks to how well these covers were planned, but it seems Carter's might have been the result of knowing what they wanted to do versus Koosman kind of being what they wound up. Sometimes serendipity will prevail in the moment. I don't think that's what happened for Life. I have them both. I like looking at each. But I think Kid guns down Kooz at second (or in the second round).
