1. =bmfc1 post_id=23241 time=1569722128 user_id=73] It all comes down to Sunday as the Mets have 85 wins. A Mets win and it's a tie-between G-Fafif and dgwphotography. A Mets loss and the crown goes to Benjamin Grimm (pending Edgy's review, per tradition): Benjamin Grimm: 85 wins. 3rd place. No post season. dgwphotography: 86-76, just miss the post season G-Fafif: 86-76. Third place. Not quite the playoffs.
2. The Mets first baseman socked a game-winning homer to end the season, just like we all wanted!
3. Brrr, it's probably cold out there. There must be Metsies in the atmosphere. Or it'll be because they're playing baseball in the Northeast on March Bleeping Twenty-Sixth. But when they do, figure Jake and Max bundled up and ready to heat things up again. Let's get going. We're on a three-game winning streak.
4. Been to 276 regular-season games at Citi Field. Lotta good ones, but this one, the 276th, had to be my favorite.
5. Syndergaard will follow Matz, just as he did on the final weekend of 2018. Matz was a sidebar to history last year, too, starting David Wright's final game, which went on forever (though if that was true, it would still be going). Mike Soroka getting his work in for the Braves.
6. 54 would tie, among others, Ralph Kiner, Jose Bautista and the first OMG season of Babe Ruth's. 55 would be unique; nobody has ever totaled a Hagar's worth for a season. The only other player to have belted exactly 53 is Chris Davis. Not the all-or-nothing template one wishes Pete to model himself on.
7. Got one more in there, Pete? How about the rest of you fellas?
8. Mrs. F and I will be making our annual swan song in 328.
9. Amendment to above: Mets final record will be a replica of 1976 if they win tomorrow, an unprecedented record if they lose. Personally, I'm pulling for the Spirit of ‘76.
10. A win tonight or tomorrow (or, preferably, both) ensures an unprecedented final season record. Mets have never before finished with exactly 84 or 85 wins.
11. These Braves alternate road jerseys look like repurposed Padres alternate road jerseys from 17 or 18 iterations ago.
12. Matz seems to be pitching a shutout.
13. 53. There's only Pete.
14. Is SJR off railing at the SJWs? Brandon Nimmo – CF Pete Alonso – 1B Robinson Canó – 2B Michael Conforto – RF J.D. Davis – LF Amed Rosario – SS Todd Frazier – 3B René Rivera – C Steven Matz – LHP

That's 'pass-the-blame' loser talk. I adored the talk with Hubie Brooks today and so did Keith and Ronnie, but it wasn't the easiest of interviews, as Hubie had been out of the game so long he didn't seem to have a knack for keeping a conversation going on the air. Keith asked him if, as a West Coast guy, it was difficult to play on the East Coast. Hubie let about three awkward beats go, and he answered, "No ... I mean, why would it? I was just happy to be playing baseball." Keith's face seemed a little embarassed and a little playful, sort of like implying, "Sorry, Hube, it's just my job to sit here and ask stupid cliched questions." That was Ronnie's question, as he is the one who sometimes defaults into ex-jock broadcaster mode, whereas Keith only Keiths.
16. One paragraph for every home run Pete Alonso has hit for the New York Mets (thus far) in his rookie season http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/28/52-pickup/here.
17. I don't know which among them is a McCarthy and which among them is a Frazier. I kind of wanted Girardi when his name stirred at midseason, but if Maddon is dispatched, Girardi would seem bound to replace him. McEwing is the sentimental favorite, but that makes me nervous. Espada is the hot choice, that makes me more nervous. Fuck Torre, by the way.
18. For the first time since 2001, the Mets single-season home run record is greater than the Mets single-season save record: 52 for Alonso in 2019 vs 51 for Familia in 2016.
19. Mets still alive to top their preseason over/under of 85 1/2, a fact I'm aware of via a FAFIF reader who perennially bets the over and often has to sweat out his investment.
20. Not asking Lugo to give up two runs in the ninth so Alonso gets another crack at 53.
21. I'm glad we got a few starts of seeing what the Stroman fuss was about. Gotta feel pretty good about having him around next year.
22. There was Carlos Torres. There was (and sort of is) Yoenis Cespedes. And now there is Pete Alonso (Game 160). Shove over, Judge.
23. The main guy the Mets sent to the Susquehanna Hat Co. is at Citi Field this weekend.
24. Brandon Nimmo – RF Pete Alonso – 1B J.D. Davis – LF Todd Frazier – 3B Amed Rosario – SS Joe Panik – 2B Juan Lagares – CF Tomás Nido – C Marcus Stroman – RHP
