  1. Eric Cooper sucked in 2005... https://nypost.com/2005/06/13/perturbed-piazza-ejected-in-the-first-inning/https://nypost.com/2005/06/13/perturbed-piazza-ejected-in-the-first-inning/ ...and he still sucks.
  2. =kcmets post_id=23045 time=1569536899 user_id=53] Not to be the OCD thread police twice in one week but it's the 26th!!
  3. Mickey said Ramos would be getting the next two games off (perhaps he'll be rarin' to go on Sunday to catch Noah).
  4. Without knowing what was on the table, I'm glad they went as they did. Play to win the season and all that. I was in 2019 enjoying 2019. Let the GM and his crew be nimble of mind and figure out how to go further in 2020.
  5. Brandon Nimmo – CF Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF J.D. Davis – LF Robinson Canó – 2B Todd Frazier – 3B Luis Guillorme – SS René Rivera – C Zack Wheeler – RHP
  6. McNeil to the 60-day DL (Mets are hoping he'll be back for Thanksgiving); Dom activated. Wrist surgery for Squirrel. Six-week recovery projected. Spring Training should be fine. But don't go to Jed Lowrie for confirmation.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: So, great. I'm mistaking the flag of Texas for the Puerto Rican flag. A friend told me that in a fit of post-9/11 U-S-A! patriotism, her friend's husband ran right out and bought a Puerto Rican flag.
  8. That's my boid.
  9. Any conceivable total Pete concludes with will be wonderful. Hard to ask for more than 51 (all I ever wanted was 42), especially knowing it's tied the NY NL record held by Johnny Mize and Willie Mays. But as long as we're asking... 52: Ties Judge for rookie record; matches Foster, which was THE PINNACLE for any fan growing up in the '70s. Nobody had hit 50 home runs in twelve years and nobody would hit 50 home runs for another 13 years. It was such an aberration, yet it didn't seem crazy, because Foster was so dangerous (if only the Mets could get a guy like that). 53: Sets new rookie record, elbowing aside some dopey MFY; tops Foster, which isn't a thing, exactly, but on the Monday night following the last game of the 1977 season, I recall hearing Jonathan Schwartz on WNEW-AM reading that night's scores, which didn't exist (theater of the mind; he was a Red Sox fan missing baseball), and noting that in the Cincinnati game, "George Foster has hit No. 53," and for a couple of seconds I believed it. 54: Matching Ralph Kiner's highest total would be beautiful. I found myself during the season thinking how much Ralph would have enjoyed talking about Pete and missed Ralph all over again. 55 and over: Too much to ask for with four games to go, but we'll take it.
  10. Pete Alonso has tied Jose Reyes for 10th place in regular-season Citi Field HRs, with 25.
  11. Some very decent guesses herein.
  12. We'll finish no lower than tied for third. 1 more win or PHI loss and it's sole possession.
  13. Preserves his .200 batting average.
  14. Preeminent 51s: Rick White from 2000 Paul Sewald from last night and PETE (Game 158)
  15. Other than Lynch and maybe McMichael, basically nobody had anything resembling sustained competence post-Koosman, and I'd include Callaway in that cohort.
  16. The eight players who must not suck, and the ninth player — for whom they must not suck. Brandon Nimmo – CF Jeff McNeil – LF Pete Alonso – 1B Michael Conforto – RF Wilson Ramos – C Robinson Canó – 2B Todd Frazier – 3B Amed Rosario – SS Jacob deGrom – RHP
  17. 41 is the only number to come attached to the street where the Mets live. I don't think any other number's gonna join Seaver Way in achieving that honor.
  18. With the Mets winning their 82nd game, Zack Wheeler leaves the list of Mets pitchers with most starts never pitching for a winning Mets team. Zack was eight starts behind Jack Fisher when Amed Rosario crossed home plate. I imagine Jay Horwitz arranged something special to mark the occasion. http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/25/heres-to-the-winners-who-wait/http://www.faithandfearinflushing.com/2019/09/25/heres-to-the-winners-who-wait/
  19. I voted as if yesterday's announcement hadn't happened, for Hernandez and Wright. I'm fine with Koosman getting there first now that it's happening, but he wasn't on my dance card. Tom, Keith, Mike and David would each represent all the bountiful eras of Mets baseball to date as the transcendent Met presences of their respective generations (with little to no overlap). I wouldn't complain a whit if anybody on that ballot was selected. And I do believe had 24 been retired 40 years ago in honor of Willie Mays's significance to New York (ground covered in the magazine cover derby), it would have been and remained appropriate. Doing it now...well, I'd do it, but it would mystify the people who can't quite comprehend anything that happened before they came along.
  20. Or Wright's career was singular and as such deserved a sendoff unmatched and unprecedented.
  21. I'm not sure who exactly composes the Hall of Fame committee that J. Wilpon said made this decision, but I assume it still includes Gary and Howie (who were on the previous iteration) and Jay (the alumni affairs macher). I have faith in their judgment where this sort of thing is concerned (and in Howie and Gary where any Met thing is concerned). If J. Wilpon wakes up one day and says, "I'd sure like to retire 47 for my old golfing buddy Tom," then we'll know the process is askew.
  22. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=22727 time=1569359720 user_id=68] =G-Fafif post_id=22723 time=1569359018 user_id=55] It's admittedly a step down in the pantheon from Tom and Mike, but not a huge step down, not when you consider Koosman's role in Mets history, longevity and maybe a realization that waiting much longer would take the wind out of such a gesture.
  23. I had a conversation with the Mets director of alumni relations recently. He said a number retirement was being discussed for 2020. I kind of thought, yeah, sure Jay, whatever. Hot damn, they did it. It's admittedly a step down in the pantheon from Tom and Mike, but not a huge step down, not when you consider Koosman's role in Mets history, longevity and maybe a realization that waiting much longer would take the wind out of such a gesture. What I love most about it is 36 really has belonged to Kooz forever, more than any regularly circulated number of substance has belonged to anybody. It actually works. As for who's next, maybe give it a day and a half before making this a contest. Let Jerry have his 36 hours.
  24. 36, for Jerry Koosman. Gets hung next year. Mickey Callaway to manage his final six games (perhaps) in 26.
