  1. i'll keep this thread for the rules we've polled. first i'll state a few things that seem obvious to me, but feel free to ask for a poll on any of these if you don't like them: 1. We're using Yahoo, because its free and a few of us are familiar with it. 2. We're using all MLB players, because we've got too many people for an NL-only league. things we've polled: 1. the league will be free. 2. we will have a snake draft. 3. rotisserie style scoring 4. yankees and braves will be in the league.
  2. i'll get that one up in a sec
  3. Please don't vote if you don't intend to participate. Thanks. Free- no cost to enter the league and no prizes. Cheap- possibly a fee for the stat service and/or a small prize. we'd keep this under $20 no matter what.
  4. edit 2/19- KC is out, patchyfogg has joined 1 open spot, 1 spot saved for duan.
  5. use this thread to list topics on which we need to start a poll, i'll start (and make these polls in a bit): what stats service to use? free league or not? scoring system? yankees/braves allowed? roster sizes (this will require discussion before a poll)
  6. welcome to the 2006 cranepool forum fantasy baseball league... start all the threads you want but for the sake of sanity leave any polls on league rules for me to start so we don't end up with 3 identical polls.
  7. metirish wrote: I can feel good about any player wearing a Mets uni,of recent years Mike Stanton was a guy I didn't like, partly because he came from the yankees but more so because he belittled the Mets after 9/11... he did? what did he say? i didn't remember this and i'm always looking for anti-patriotic celebrities to make fun of
  8. hey edgy! give us a forum! [/end hijack] i think the Manny talk is dead at this point, the Mets are looking for a Catcher it seems. odds are good they will either overpay for a mediocre one or trade too much for a bad one.
  9. i would definetaly have either overslept the 8am or gone back to sleep immediately afterwards so as to wake up for the 2pm... staying on topic... with the number of people we have we almost certainly will go with an MLB league (as opposed to NL-only). i'll start polls and discussions on the other thing we need to decide once we get a subforum up and running.
  10. Glavine will always be a Brave to me so put him in a worse category than all these "AL guys." right now Wright, Reyes, Floyd, Heilman, Seo, Traschel are the only guys i can feel good about.
  11. i've never had a yankee on one of my teams, mostly because every yahoo league has at least one yankee fan who overvalues them by a round or more. what are you doing up so early valadius? you should never take classes before 11 in college!
  12. i LOVE auctions but that is clearly not the way to go online unless we could all get together for 6 hours (and thats a bare minimum) and find a chat room moderator to run the auction. a snake-draft on yahoo will take 3 hours (with 15-20 people) and you can pre-set your list incase you miss the end.
  13. ]Baseball history is littered with promising young prospects that never quite made good on their "promise". Petit is more likely to be the next Todd Van Poppel as he is the next Tom Seaver. Likely he will end up somewhere between the extremes of the player career scales. very true. And i'll add to that by saying that, despite what the NY media will sometimes have you believe, not every pitching prospect is the "next Seaver," this guy projects to be a "#2" at best. i think the best case scenario for him (in terms of reasonable outcomes, not the .003% chance of becoming Tom Glavine) is a Rick Reed-like career, which is very good for him, but not worth losing out on Delgado and not a sure thing anyway. I still stick by my intial prediction of him being a total bust however.
  14. since the "big names" are often, but not always, the best players, isn't that a good thing? i'd rather go for the "big names" like Delgado, Ramirez, Martinez, Beltran, etc. than go for the no-names the Mets have overpaid in the last decade (Cedeno, Vaughn, Bonilla, etc)
  15. well, thats all assuming a points league, i'm partial to rotisserie style myself (and i HATE head to head which i feel is great for football leagues but not so much so for other sports) the "standard" 5x5 yahoo league is R/RBI/BA/HR/SB for hitters and WHIP/ERA/W/SV/K for pitchers, but we can of course do whatever we want. lets give it till the end of the week to get a list of participants before we start debating all our options though, it will help to have seperate threads in the sub forum the edgy has offered, i'm not about to start multiple threads on the subject here as i am very anti-clutter.
  16. if the yankees traded a guy away i suppose we could give him to the last place team or just say once he's a yankee he's out for the year, alternatively we could just not ban yankkees...it would be amusing to see how low in the draft they finally go and who takes them, same with the braves.
  17. true, that was his agent speaking. maybe Carlos really isn't happy?
  18. Edgy, if you'd like to start a sub-forum for us that would probably help, i'd hate to clog the main forum with multiple threads DocTee, if you'd like to participate you can set your team to allow the commisioner to make changes, in which case while you are gone we could replace any injury you may suffer with a guy from your bench or the "best" available player (by yahoo rankings.)
  19. well what was he going to say? "i'm against this trade, i hate NY and i'll be demanding a trade after next season as is my right"
  20. not sure exactly what you mean, we'll need to decide on rules (roster sizes, scoring system, draft method, etc) i guess by voting once we know who is playing.
  21. who are "we" and "us"? are you writing this column in conjunction with someone? i HATE when a writer refers to himself in the plural for no reason (though if "we" does mean more than just you then thats fine)
  22. Omar, i promise there will be plenty of utility infielders available in February, please go get us a RF/C/2B, thank you.
  23. i don't care about the steals, give me .300/.380./.450 with 100 runs and 90 rbis i'll be very happy.
  24. around the time pitchers and catchers report
  25. KC wrote: That would be a fun and interesting twist - might even get a few more to want to give it a whirl. (in response to no yankees/braves) sounds good to me, it would have to be on an honor system though, because yahoo wont let you specify no players from given teams (some of the advanced [read: expensive] sites will)
