  3. its been awhile since i've bothered tuning in to anything but Summers, what did they do now?
  4. maybe we should start a new Armando-bashing thread too, they're going to be far outnumbered by Manny threads soon. i doubt Howard is available. if Dunn is i want him now and at whatever cost (in prospects and cash.) Milledge and Pettit? Diaz, Petit, and Bannister?
  5. as far as WFAN in general goes i love Summers and Beningo, though i hate that they put him in the late morning/early afternoon asnd with sidiot, he was much better solo and he was the guy you wanted to hear sunday night after a jet loss.

  7. whoops. i still don't see the need for a righty bat though, any bat will do.
  8. ="Edgy DC"]I'm still confused as to why the Mets particularly need a righthanded bat. silver, unles you count Mex, I don't know where Met fans are thinking this way. the mets need a BIG BAT, i see no reason why they need a righty though. Beltran switch hits, Wright is a righty, Floyd is a lefty, and those are the 3 big guys in the lineup. beyond that the SS is a switch hitter, the RF (whether Cameron or Diaz) is a righty and C, 2B, and 1B are all unsettled (though Castro and Jacobs are both righties and i'd bet good money that one of them is in the lineup next april 1st.)
  9. Edgy DC wrote: They would do better to pick up Ishii's option. They could pick him up and trade him while sending 2.2 mills of his salary with him and at least get compensation for him. i hear what you're saying, but i don't think thats going to happen. the 2.2 million is gone no matter what, leaving a balance of 1.05 million between his salary and his buyout. is it worth that million to trade him for a marginal prospect? i'd say no, and that nobody will take him unless the mets are paying almost the whole salary. if you think they can get someone who isn't junk for him and that they can get someone to pickup at least that million then go ahead and sign him...i just wouldnt bother.
  10. i dont really want to start bringing guys in to play them out of position.
  11. heredia should be bought out easily. it sucks that ishii's number is so high but they stil might as well buy him out, they have like 8 or 9 guys i'd rather see starting a game for them.

  13. Vic Sage wrote: okay, i had Ben Sheets, Oliver Perez and Corey Patterson, but still... patterson had a horrible fantasy year, sheets was hurt alot (buit still good when he pitched.) wasn't oliver perez horendous in 2005? or was that someone else i'm thinking of...
  14. seawolf17 wrote: Hey! Is this a Zambrano thread, or are we discussing trades? What the hell happened to Sean Burroughs? Talk about a prospect who never became anything. This kid was supposed to be such hot shit at third a few years ago. He came up, sucked, was moved all around the diamond, and now the Pads would rather have a 40-year-old retread at third than Burroughs. Ouch. we're discussing trading zambrano. burroughs had a high BA for whatever reason (maybe luck?) in the minors but never showed any other skills to go along with it. the average dried up and now he's in the same place as every other singles hitter with no ability to draw a walk or get extra base hits should be...the dog house.
  15. ]I'd keep Zambrano around just because recent history shows that just about every team needs an emergency starter for a solid month, if not more. moving Heilman into the rotation would be my plan if that happened. ]Everyone had a hard-on for the Red Sox's catching prospect earlier on. They need pitching, we need a long term plan for catcher. Though maybe Trax would garner more if we held onto him until right before the trading deadline. There will probably again be about 10 teams right at .500 who will be fighting for every scrap of pitching out there if we could get Shopach for him i'd probably want to do it now, if not holding him (or zambrano, whichever you want to trade) till june doesn't sound like a bad idea
  16. ]I guess, but I put Zambrano at seventh in our rotation anyway so do i, but unfortunately Willie may not be on the same wavelength. i'd be VERY upset to see Zambrano in our rotation the way things stand right now. the ERA+ over the last 3 years for our (main) current options: player 2005 2004 2003 Martinez 148 125 212 Glavine 118 119 94 Benson 101 97 85 Seo 162 87 111 Traschel 101 107 112 Heilman 132 78 63 Zambrano 100 101 108 It is clear that Pedro is and should be in. it is clear (i think) that Glavine is and should be in. after that its pretty difficult, but here's what i'd do and why: the 3rd spot would go to Jae Seo who clearly outpitched the others this past year. this leaves Heilman, Benson, Traschel, and Zambrano for 2 spots. I would leave Heilman in the bullpen. he might be better than these other guys, but he might not be, and his (i think) proven value in the bullpen makes him worth leaving there as long as there are roughly equivalent options available for the rotation. Traschel has been slightly better than the other 2 and, we believe, he would not be easily converted to relief pitching. i'd give him the 4th spot. that leaves us with zambrano and benson...and you know what? i might have spent the last year and a half bashing zambrano, but when you look at the numbers he has been a slightly better pitcher than kris benson (though both have spent their careers being essentially average.) the only thing to think about here is that since the two of them (and Traschel) are probably about equal, shouldn't you trade the one with the most value to other teams insteda of the one with the most objective value? in the end i'd start Martinez, Glavine, Seo, Traschel, and Benson with Heilman in the bullpen and trading Zambrano for some kind of help.
  17. ="Elster88"]I'm glad that neither of those players are on the Mets. lawrence is as good as zambrano if not better. but yeah, i don't particularly want either of those players.
  18. that is an OLD article that tells us almost nothing about who he is now... i'd be very wary of a japanese player at a high price...of course if he's cheap enough theres no reason not to add him as another option and play castro if he turns out bad. i just don't want to sign a guy and then be "obligated" to play him because of the size of his contract.
  19. Edgy DC wrote: Let's put all off-season trades in this thread. Frayed Knot would love it. ok, but then we need a title-change. castilla stinks, take away his coors field numbers and he's a glorified scott brosius. lawrence had a bad year but i'd trust him to rebound based on the previous 3, good move for washington.

  21. the GGs lost all credibility when Palmiero won one essentially as a DH, i don't even want to hear about them anymore.
  22. Diamond Dad wrote: I wonder -- and I've never heard of it -- whether in the long and storied history of the game, has there ever been a situation where a player or a manager "admitted" that the ump had blown a call, and agreed to reverse the call and let the other side get out from under the bad call? this only happens when theres no referee/umpire...though there are still going to be assholes who claim they were fouled when nobody touched them.

Johnny Dickshot wrote: The Yanks also had an obvious abuser in Clemens. i hate clemens as much as the next guy, but theres as much evidence, even anecdotal evidence, that he took as there is for Piazza or any other big looking star.
  24. Giambi admitted it without really admitting it, but where was Sheffield implicated? was he one of the BALCO witnesses, i don't really remember.
  25. i agree that a bat is the number 1 priority, but we aren't the d-rays, signing a closer shouldn't prevent us from getting a bat.
