  1. easily my favorite player ever. goodbye john.
  2. ]but he will hit for average and drive in 60 -70 runs hitting in the #6 or #7 slot in the lineup...which is something that Castro or Piazza could not do next year in the same spot. So, yes, he is an upgrade over what the Mets had last year and what they were going to get next year had they signed nobody. are you actually claiming LoDuca is a better hitter than Piazza, even now? Piazza's OPS+ ('03-'05) 124, 108, 103 Loduca's OPS+ ('03-'05) 92, 99, 92 Castro's OPS+ is 80 career and was 97 last year, (it was insanely high in '03 and insanely low in '04 thanks to small sample sizes.) Piazza is still clearly the better hitter and i'm not sold that LoDuca is some kind of upgrade as a fielder either. as for batting LoDuca second, anyone who tries that should be fired. he has OBPs in the .330's each of the last 3 years, the idea is to get the hell on base for Delgado, Wright, and Floyd, not to bunt Reyes over to 2nd (especially when he can get there on his own.)
  3. worst thread ever. no more dumb nicknames please.
  4. i'll answer point by point, i'm shocked anyone can like this trade... TransMonk wrote: a) he's 2-4 million dollars cheaper than Hernandez or Molina he's cheaper for a reason, that reason being he's not as good. TransMonk wrote: he's consistent with his average at .285 for his career while hitting .283 last year haven't we learned by now that a .280 batting average with poor obp and slg doesnt make for a good hitter? TransMonk wrote: c) he is a great clubhouse guy and a Brooklyn native i don't care where he's from, it wont help him hit. as for being a great clubhouse guy, they say that about everyone until the team is losing and then they are all called "clubhouse cancers". TransMonk wrote: d) he has backed up the guy he's replacing at the past 3 All Star games joe girardi made the all star game one year, don't put too much stock in who makes that team. TransMonk wrote: I e) upgrade from having to go with Ramon Castro resigning Mike Piazza would be a larger upgrade, Just because something is an upgrade doesn't make it a smart move. TransMonk wrote: I f) certainly a defensive upgrade from Piazza Really? Loduca seems to be throwing guys out at similiar rates to Piazza, and Piazza always had a good reputation for doing the other things well. TransMonk wrote: I don't know how people can't be happy with this trade...we are getting another All Star added to the line up for a prospect that may or may not have impacted the team 3 years from now. i don't know how you CAN be happy. i don't care if we're getting a guy with an all-star appearence, his stats help win champioships not the all-star jerseys in his closet. whether or not Gaby Hernandez would have "impacted the team" is hardly the point, he had value as a future trading chip which has now been wasted on a guy that i wouldn't have liked even if he came as a throw in in the Delgdo trade (which btw he should have if we wanted him)
  5. hey, i'm all for admitting at the end of the year that i was wrong about a player, but that doesn't mean i won't bash him now.
  6. you know what else sucks? i'll bet that 2 weeks aho when we made the Delgado deal Omar could have said "oh yeah...and we'll take Loduca's Salary off your hands too" and the Marlins would have smiled and nodded WITHOUT the prospect.
  7. he's being given 6 million each of the next 2 years AND we gave a up a decent prospect (i could live with one or the other but not both)....would anyone like to tell me that it wouldn't have been a better idea to offer slightly more than that (say 7 million per) to the similiarly-aged but better MIKE PIAZZA??
  8. 3! hahaha!
  9. with Valadius' permission i think moving his post to the thread with pictures and deleting this thread may be a good idea, i hate multiple threads on the same topic, no offense.
  10. i dislike the trade. i dont care too much about losing Gaby Hernandez, its just that on top of that LOoDuca isn't worth his salary. LoDuca had ONE good year (in 2000 i think) and has been profiting off it ever since.
  11. "awfulman" must be Cairo, not sure who "self" is supposed to be. my 1st guess for "the run fairy" (Danny Gaves) is listed as is Looper, my 2nd favorite japanese punching bag is there too (Ishii) so i have NO idea who that is unless this guy thinks Mel Rojas is coming out of retirement
  12. Yancy Street Gang wrote: Now let's be fair here. If he starts naming his sources, he won't get as much information as he would otherwise. Yes, you may trust Peter Gammons more because he has a longer track record, but if Gammons named all of his sources when he was less famous, he wouldn't have gotten to where he is today. Sometimes the only way a reporter can get information is if it's off the record, or if he promises not to quote his source. It's not only Mark Healy who plays it that way, it's everybody. thats the thing though, i have no reason to believe he HAS any information that the public doesn't. Anyone who would talk to a no-name internet sports writer has probably blabbed to the public already. Thanks to the wonders of the internet, anyone can start a website, call themself a journalist, invent X number of rumors, and pat themself on the back when 1 out of X comes true and the others turn out to have never even been discussed. I have no reason to believe that this Healey guy has done anyhing but that.
  13. name your sources or keep expecting me to call you out on it. you aren't Peter Gammons or even Buster Olney, i have no reason to believe anything you tell me to be more than your own speculation.
  14. Mark Healey wrote: I'll remember that when I'm at the winter meetings on Monday, Mr. Message Board Poster that uses an Internet Alias. I think my record of a decade as a journalist is a pretty good one. ok Mr. "Journalist" who makes up his "sources" and can't show otherwise. your record? what record? i can make up rumors every week for a year and be in the same spot you're in.
  15. lets not go overboard archive man, there is not a single baseball team in such bad shape that it needs to fold. Maybe you need to move Florida out to Portland or somewhere but folding teams is stupid when they are profitable (and don't let the liars fool you, they're all making oney)
  16. Elster88 wrote: Speaking of Castillo, et al, I'm guessing that the NL wildcard comes out of the east this year. wouldn't be suprising since NY, PHI, and ATL now have a punching-bag Marlins team similiar to what the AL East has in Tampa
  17. East Rutherford? i know 2 really rich guys who will do everything in their power to make sure that never happens.
  18. the drafr pick thing is interesting too, i'm ok with losing mine to sign Wagner, but to sign a 38 year old Gordon for 3 years? i might have held onto that 1st rounder.
  19. i'm going to close the yankees/braves and scoring system polls on mondat if nobody objects, i'd like to move forward with roster sizes and stat categories....
  20. apples and oranged with the position players, but this makes the Wagner deal look good and even the BJ Ryan deal look pretty sane.
  21. We don't hate rumors, we just don't like people claiming sources that they refuse to prove they have. i'm all for idle trade speculations as long as it is framed as such- a fan's opinion of what should/could happen. as for the article linked above, we've been over Manny ad nauseum around here and i see no reason to even talk about it again unless he actually shows up at a Shea press conference.
  22. Elster88 wrote: I think everyone here agrees with you, Nymr. that would be a first i believe. would anyone like to come out in favor of this trade?
  23. at this point i dont see them getting anyone better than matsui so they might as well give it another go. i only ask that they dont stick with him the way they stuck with cairo if he doesnt play well.
