  2. metirish wrote: Am I going slightly crazy or do Ron and Keith sound very alike with the way they speak? nah, they just sound alike because they are hitting on each other, i don't like having two former players from the same team together, it's nice having a situation where the guys have diferent anecdotes, i'd prefer even two guys from different eras.
  3. if the player (here pedro) were offended then they'd be jerks if they continued doing it. the "wolf pack" for randy wolf was cool but all the biters around the league (and the other ones in philly) are just dumb.
  4. I'm ok with leaving Victor in there. The starting pitcher needs to go deep into games and save the bullpen, I'd rather take my chances with him than burn out the entire bullpen today. I still don't like VZ though, is there a kazmir/zambrano trade tracker thread? i'll be at the (likely) rubber game tommorow, my 4th of the young season.
  5. if people showed up in turbans i'd just laugh.
  6. the last two people already beat me to my jokes about the Soriano trade.
  7. It's all in good fun and everyone just take this racism bull too seriously. If people showed up with fake beards and pais to cheer on a jewish ballplayer i wouldn't be offended in the slightest. as long as pedro isn't offended by it everyone else should just mind their business.
  8. if a municipality is shelling out tax dollars for a stadium they should be ENCOURAGED to recoup some of it by selling the naming rights, to not do so would be irresponsible.
  9. Edgy DC wrote: ]Edgy, I think you meant Matsui, not Woody in the thread title. No, I mean if Nymr83 can get down with the idea of juicing the lineup with Woody (as he said in a post I didn't split off), that he can actually be described as an improvement --- it opens the door to the idea that maybe extending Matsui's exile as long as possible is not a good strategy but a bitter and self-defeating one. Clarity is lost when I leave half the thread's thesis behind. Sorry. Matsui and Woodward are both moderate upgrades over what i expect out of Hernandez offensively, though when you factor in defense i still believe Hernandez to have the best chance of being the most useful. With the sudden n eed for offense i have no problem with either of them (thouhg i prefer Keppinger) getting the starts at 2B (and keeping the job for as long as they are performing even if Beltran and Floyd come back.)
  10. well put. This past weekend the upper deck seats were TWO DOLLARS against the Brewers! What are the chances of seeing a promotion like that at the new ballpark? i'd say about 1,000,000,000 to 1
  11. Johnny Dickshot wrote: QS is a baseline minimum. i'll agree that a so called quality start is the minimum i'd like to get out of my starter, but that doesnt make it "quality", quality should be above the minimum. back to my point though, which is that an outing like this doesnt deserve, imo, too many points and that if zambrano had had this identical outing he'd get less points than pedro would.
  12. JD- i disagree with the definition of quality starts, when the league ERA is under 4.5 3 runs over 6 shouldn't be considered quality. Sharpie- no points for Delgado? was that a typo? are you mad he didnt take a curtain call?
  13. Keppunger was hurt last year by the time Cairo was stinking up the joint, so he never blocked Keppinger, only Hernandez.
  14. Delgado 2 Nady 3 LoDuca 2 Martinez 1 Sanchez 1 Wagner 1 if pedro were anyone else i think he'd get minimal points for six and a third with three runs, we'll see...
  15. I don't know what good matsui does you, this team NEEDS Diaz right now with both Beltran and Floyd hurting. if you want to bring them both up (by getting rid of valentin and julio) thats fine too, but an OFer is the immediate need,
  16. Elster88 wrote: Your picks are 0 for 2 in getting the job done. Time to give someone else a chance to pick the starter. But let's enjoy the win. who are "my picks" and how are they 0-2? who is "someone else"? I advocated for Hernandez (because Keppinger was hurt) all of last summer and he was given 18 lousy ABs. I advocate for Hernandez now because he still hasn't been given a sufficient sample size. He isn't "0-1" yet because it is only April 17th.
  17. Elster88 wrote: How come they all pronounce Franco correctly with Julio but never did with Johnnie B.? could it be that an italian from brooklyn prononces his name differently despite the same spelling as a hispanic player?
  18. Elster88 wrote: ="Nymr83"]He can sure field though and i don't mind having a "Rey Ordonez" at league minimum salary. Give him another month, then lets see Keppinger. Cairo last year. This year Hernandez. Keppinger next. When will you kids learn? EDIT: BTW, this idea of giving him ANOTHER month is fairly stupid. Now Floyd and Beltran both have questionable health. We can't afford to carry Andy's bat. (Not that we could in the first place.) learn what exactly? its not like we have some great option around who is being blocked.
  19. Bret Myers for Chase Utley?????? I won't vote against any trades but this seems pretty rediculous to me.
  20. exactly JD. I'm not talking about the benefits of bringing a team into town as was done in Denver (and i assume the stadium deal was part of getting the team and mile high was just a convenient place to play in the mean time.) I'm talking about the public benefits to buildig a new stadium when a functional one still exists.
  21. if Floyd goes onthe DL the mets can recall Diaz even if they just sent him down, right?
  22. Edgy DC wrote: ]Xavier Nady: Proving again that the wrong move can go right. A lot of that going on right now, Jorge Julio accepted. isn't it "excepted"? not asking to be snotty or anything, i get confused about those two words sometimes.
  23. ]The silly part is pretending that re-jiggering a few thousand seats will provide the team with the same benefits as a new park. emphasis added. who cares what benefit Wilpon gets from it? there is public money going into the project so the only real question should be what benefit do WE, the taxpayers, get out of it?
  24. Xavier Nady: Proving again that the wrong move can go right.
  25. I don't think it is silly, I think it is pretty obvious to everyone but the politicians getting the kickbacks that the Mets don't need a new stadium.
