    Alou

2 years to Franco, 2 years to el duque, and 2 to Alou? Omar needs to learn when offering a 2nd year is unwise. ]Alou, 40, is expected to replace Cliff Floyd on the disabled list i fixed the article.

League Championship games not on network television? this is a disaster.

    New Rules!

Carlos Beltran refused to swing the bat out of concern for Frayed Knot's family harmony.
  4. yeah, if you're gonna trash his speed you can stop after "lopez carrying ortiz on his back" we didn't need the rest. all that tells us is that he's slow, ok so what? mike piazza, john olerud, and robin ventura were slow too. i wish they'd have devoted some time to his positives.
  5. bang your guiness bottles together folks, that one takes the cake.
  6. those of us who are male needed to know that she was hot to properly imagine the story.
  7. call your shit anything you want in your country, here in america THIS is football.
  8. i can't see how the red Sox could let him sign for only 2 years after paying 51 million, you'd think that at that rate they've got 7 years in mind
  9. ="metsguyinmichigan"]If Joe Girardi was such a good manager, then... 1) Why did he finish six games below .500 because he had a payroll the size of arod's contract and a very inexperienced team 2) How come he couldn't get along with his GM or owner? beacuse the owner down there is a shmuck who doesnt care about winning 3) Couldn't get a job managing this season, heading instead to the Yankees' booth? That award should have been Willie's. want some cheese with that?
  10. Edgy DC wrote: I'm in no way claiming that he'd get a ten-year deal. I'm just trying to lay out an "even if" scenario to figger out how a team can justify that payment. my cynical answer is they can't unless they worked something out with the Japanese team (ala we'll bid real high but you're giving to us for X)

not that he necessarily deserved the award, but Josh Johnson gets no points?

]1914: Became the first U.S. national bank to open an overseas banking office when its branch in Buenos Aires was opened. my guess is that they opened there instead of London or Munich or something because the US auto industry was trying to secure rubber holdings down there. I'm probably wrong. or they saw the clouds of war building in europe?
  14. soccer should either be called "soccer" or "futbol" to stop confusing people. edgy- it is weird but i'm sure there are a few reasns for it, one is that we're not sure how much lower their offer to the pitcher will be than if he would have been on the market and subject to offers from others team. a second factor is that the Red Sox are probably somewhat aware of the luxury tax, the money they gave to japan isnt part of that.... given the size of the bid my explanation still wouldnt cover the difference (as it might have if the bid was 10-15 million) but its at least part of it, i think we'll have to see what he signs for before we speculate even more

edgy, are they in fact using eminent domain to kick the chop shops out? if so i'm with you a 100% i don't like it. after the foolish Kelo decision 17 states had amendments on the balloth is year to limit eminent domain to its traditional role of takings for public use (roads, hospitals, schools, fire houses, etc) i'm not sure how many of them passed. the Kelo case was a 5-4 decision and is one more conservative appointee away from being overturned (as it should be.) i pray for that day.
  16. ...cost more than they do todaaaaay
  17. cause the Mets are really rockin tha ball, hitting those homerun over the corporate sponsor's sign on the wall...
  18. is this essentially the idiot's version of The Frisco Kid?
  19. i like Nevin as a hitter but i've always thought of him as 1B/3B, is he a credible outfielder? STAY AWAY from Carlos Lee, while he can sure hit i think "DH in the making" is an understatement if you give him a long-term deal. i'd avoid Soriano in LF, though Valentin shouldnt be set in stone and theres no reason we can't still sign Soriano for 2B (and shift him to LF if Milledge blows while starting Valentin again)
  20. Willets- we don't "need" anyone we have plenty of people, but we'd sure love to have you back anyway if you want to stay. Cooby- we had daily rosters, this will of course be subject to change by vote before the draft.
  21. thats an awful lot of dough, i don't know what Japanese payrolls look like but i'd have to imagine that 30 mil is 1/2 the average team's payroll for the year...
  22. errors don't = defense, but those numbers at least convince me he's not going to be pulling a Knoblauch.
  23. anyone who doesnt plan to return let us know here, anyone who isnt in last year that wants to join let us know as well, board members only for now but if we have open spots (yahoo maximum is 20) in march we'll let others in as well.

i was talking to the cynical post above mine, you seem to have the right attitude that its good for the team, who the heck cares what a building is called, i wish someone would pay me to name my house

do you actually have a problem with corporate sponsorship of stadiums?
