  1. I still think Alou may contribute in September (and hopefully October) but I hope for a situation where Milledge or an outside player is producing so well that Alou and Green are fighting each other for ABs.
  2. i remember a story that when Rickey went to Seattle after the Mets he was talking to John Olerud about wearing a helmet in the field and told him that he played with a guy in NY who did that (which, of course, was Olerud.)
  3. ]Is there a limit as to how many coaches you can have? theres a limit to how many can be in the dugout (what Keith Hernandez later claimed to be talking about with that woman who didn't belong there)

  5. its about time!
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: WFAN reports that Newsday is reporting that Rick Down is out as hitting coach, to be replaced by Rickey Henderson effective immediately. Rickey is gonna help the guys win, Rickey is looking to be a player-coach, looking to bat leadoff ahead of this reyes fella, Rickey knows Rickey can contribute with the bat. Rickey is younger than Julio Franco and is only asking for 1 year.

A: Yes i think monday was the worst, being further away from the next met game than we are now. how did Vukovich get 597 career at-bats and a 13-year career with those numbers? he had a career OPS of .425, i wonder if thats the lowest ever for someone over 500 career ABs?
  8. yay the obligatory "captain clutch interview". i'm gonna puke.

  10. arod thrown out by a mile by griffey!

  15. guerrero still has a canon. cant go to 3rd there. redass would have gotten reyes over, fuckin bonds.

  18. Ortiz hits into the shift.... and Utley throws one about 6 inches off the ground that Fielder can't handle.
  19. a beautiful 1-2 sinker from peavy to jeter. i say he swung. ring him up ump! Most Valuable Prick grounds into a double play!
  20. Kid Carsey wrote: Yes, on such a perilous night ... that was fucking disgraceful. not knowing the words to the national anthem and agreeing to sing it infront of a national audience anyway should be a crime. ichiro leads it off with a single past the diving utley!
  21. AMERICAN LEAGUE Ichiro Suzuki, cf Derek Jeter, ss David Ortiz, 1b Alex Rodriguez, 3b Vladimir Guerrero, rf Magglio Ordonez, lf Ivan Rodriguez, c Placido Polanco, 2b Dan Haren, p NATIONAL LEAGUE Jose Reyes, ss Barry Bonds, lf Carlos Beltran, cf Ken Griffey Jr., rf David Wright, 3b Prince Fielder, 1b Russell Martin, c Chase Utley, 2b Jake Peavy, p The AL lineup is exactly what i'd have done as manager. if i were LaRussa I'd have hit Beltran 2nd, Griffey 3rd, and Bonds 4th and Utley ahead of Martin.
  22. keep the 2 shades of gray.

I wonder if there's some way they can convince Valentin to just get the surgery now on the knee and start the rehab already so that he can be in good shape for the start of the season in '08. I'd have no problem with Easley and Gotay covering 2nd base (whether straight platoon or otherwise). We would need somebody else off the bench (unless keeping Alomar around is the option). if you keep alomar around then Castro suddenly becomes usable as a pinch hitter, he's shown power but he's not much of an avg guy.
  24. sorry, i thought you were questioning the existence of the rule rather than its applicability to Valentin.
  25. i believe there is such a rule under the collective bargaining agreement though, and when you suddenly a bench the guy hitting .270, 18, 76 in august after starting him all year the union can and will file a grievance. edit- now Valentin has certainly earned his (potential) benching, but that needs to be the reason for it.
