  1. defense is fine, but "intangibles" isn't a reason to induct a guy. either quantify what he did for his team or keep him out of the hall.
  2. i think the general fan population should get some SMALL say in things.
  3. i don't want tiers, just elimination of the peoplwe who don't belong. the vote needs to be divided up better: 20% Newspaper sportswriters 20% paid internet sports writers (not joe shmoe with a blog) 10% prominent statiticians like Bill James 10% Sports radio and television people as well as other historians of the game (prominent auithors about the sport and stuff) 10% living broadcasters with X years experience 10% current hall of famers (to represent who the players feel should get in) 10% all living managers who managed 5 years in the big leagues 10% fans (an official internet poll of the HOF website for each eligible player, if he gets 80% of the fan vote then thats like getting 8 of the 10 votes allocated to fans, etc)
  4. i meant to say if pettite were black. she defends bonds and vick.
  5. i've read her before and come away with the opinion that she is racist. If Pettite was white she'd be defending him just as she has defende Bonds and Vick in the past.
  6. Edgy DC wrote: I agree. But one thing stopping startup leagues from entering territory of established leagues is the sweetheart deals established leagues have gotten on homes. I think you're complaining about government here, not anything specific to MLB. These same things happen in all fields of business, the government is going to give the estblished entity (be it a hotel chain, a supermarket chain, whatever) tax breaks or other benefits because the government thinks there is either a real beneit or perceived benefit (in the eyes of those who must re-elect them) in doing so. No help will be forthcoming for Joe Shmoe's Motel chain compared to the new Hilton.
  7. ]The report was incomplete and if you can't expose every last former user, names shouldn't have been included. unless we can convict all the murderers, set the rest free unless we can catch everyone who is running drugs, we shouldn't catch any of them unless... absurd.
  8. ]Upper Reserved prices for 2008: $35 - Platinum $25 - Gold $20 - Silver $10 - Bronze $5 - Value last year the upper deck was 25/20/17/9/5 theres no reason NOT to raise the prices on the platinum games (which amount to opening day and the skankees) they'll sell those out even at $50 i'd guess the big jump on the gold games tells me that they really expect a huge boost from this being shea's last season... or maybe they're trying to get the fans conditioned to think these prices are fine when the new joint opens. ]I do have a problem with certain professional sports leagues having monopolistic rights to their region, handicapping real alternative leagues and teams who might come in and compete for that demand. there is nothing stopping other leagues from opening up. the only thing being prevented right now is another MLB team moving into the area and on that point i'd be willing to agree that the teams should be able to go wherever the heck they want
  9. ]arbitrators are easily impressed by things like saves, RBIs, and shiny objects best line of the article
  10. no idea, but if they do then they are responsible for the conduct of those they are trusting to do their job
  11. especially with this being shea's last season it would have been appropriate to be home on september 11th considering that the stadium played a role in the aftermath of the attacks. MLB doesn't give a rat's ass about these things though.
  12. of course if they did give you access to those games in a "pre sale" other people would complain that there were no tickets for them and that only mr. rich guy with a ticket plan gets to attend opening day, so the Mets can't win either way there.
  13. all i care about is the price of the cheapest ticket that'll get you into the building, is the upper deck going up?
  14. it was ok but not great. its not in the same league as "knocked up."
  15. Two good deal for the D'Backs. The Valverde trade especially got them back a pitcher in Qualls who is every bit as good as Valverde but just doesn't have the flashy saves (side note: GMs who blank out the saves column when evaluating relievers would be doing themselves a great service.) Burke is supposed to be good, a natural secondbaseman who i believe played alot of outfield for the big club last year.
  16. i didnt think otherwise
  17. i happen to know Greeks with very white skin. i havent seen the movie but i intend to on dvd, not worth a trip to theaters at least for me.
  18. with the number of asian-born players in the game i think you'd expect to see what? .5 named on a list this size? (if it dates back to at least the mid-90's) so whether there was 0 or 1 doesnt really make a difference because at 1 they would have been over-represented. the lack of hispanics is more meaningful, one can draw the conclusion that either a) they don't use steroids at the same rate as american players or they dont procure their steroids from Balco, Radomski, or the internet sales busted by Soares.
  19. a final "list" for anyone who cares Chad Allen Rick Ankiel David Bell Mike Bell Marvin Benard Gary Bennett Jr. Larry Bigbie Barry Bonds Kevin Brown Paul Byrd Jose Canseco Mark Carreon Jason Christiansen Howie Clark Roger Clemens Jack Cust Chris Donnels Brendan Donnelly Lenny Dykstra Bobby Estalella Matt Franco Ryan Franklin Eric Gagne Jason Giambi Jeremy Giambi Jay Gibbons Troy Glaus Jason Grimsley Jose Guillen Jerry Hairston Jr. Matt Herges Phil Hiatt Glenallen Hill Darren Holmes Todd Hundley David Justice Chuck Knoblauch Tim Laker Mike Lansing Paul Lo Duca Nook Logan Josias Manzanillo Gary Matthews Jr. Cody McKay Kent Mercker Bart Miadich Hal Morris Daniel Naulty Denny Neagle Jim Parque Andy Pettitte Adam Piatt Todd Pratt Stephen Randolph Adam Riggs Brian Roberts John Rocker F.P. 20. Clemens is full of shit (and steroids.) If he really hasn't done anything lets see him file a libel suit. question(s): he's alleged to have used in Canada, would a canadian court have jurisdiction of his libel suit? i havent the slightest clue what canadian law says as to jurisdiction. do canadian libel laws mirror those of the united states or those of england? (who has to prove the truth of the allegations?)
  21. I feel that Chavez has peaked in trade value, if the Mets don't see him as their 4th outfielder they should get what they can for him. i don't want to see both Gomez and Chavez on the bench, neither has the power they need as a pinch hitter and with Easley, Castro, and probably Gotay locked in there they are running out of spots to get that power from (Easley isn't bad but not enough)

  23. Pratt 'roided it over the wall in 1999 and just ruined my greatest baseball moment.
  24. Valadius wrote: Clemens was injected in the ass with steroids. "steroids"? so thats what they're calling it now?
  25. Gwreck wrote: The geniuses preparing the report take great pains to redact Radomski's address, but leave his phone number right there for anyone to have? page number? wow this guy is about to get a load of calls
