  1. NO. Its been one year, chill out and see how the park plays in the long-term.
  2. None of those trade potentials excite me because they all make too much money considering that the Mets would also give players up. Of the free agents, an incentive-laden deal for Sheets would be my favorite choice, but more than 5 or 6 million gauranteed seems nuts with his injury history.
  3. UTTERLY ABSURD. Tim Raines (30% of the vote) was by far a better player. Baines is probably better. Alomar is much better. I won't bother comparing to pitchers but Blyleven was robbed as well. A .323 OBP for a corner outfielder should almost automatically EXCLUDE you, instead he's the only guy who gets in. the dinosaurs who vote for the HOF need to go.
  4. Why any team would ever be built like this is an interesting question -- after all, there is a lot of advantage to be had in making sure that your lesser players aren't actively bad, and no general manager is so dumb or inept that he doesn't realize this. The obvious reason is that star players suck up a lot of cash, leaving less money to fill out the rest of the roster. Another reason is that it can actually be useful to have a lot of C-grade talent around; if someone like Reed or Sullivan gets hot, you ride him, and if he doesn't, it's no big deal. There is a very convincing reason to build a "stars and scrubs" team. If you have a team full of slightly above average players it makes it hard to give yourself a boost unless you can acquire a star player, but if you have star players and below average players, its much easier to upgrade some spots to even an average player.
  5. Had they gotten a bad vibe early on Bay, the Mets would have recalibrated and made a very strong push for John Lackey. I wish they'd gotten a "bad vibe" Multiple Mets officials said they know the metrics show the opposite, but their scouts contend Bay is a better defender than Holliday that the Mets come down on the scouts side of "scouts vs. stats" is to me the most disturbing piece of this article, if its even true. If I were writing out the Mets lineup -- especially if they land Delgado and Molina -- this is what I would do: 1. Reyes. 2. Wright. 3. Beltran. 4. Bay. 5. Delgado. 6. Francoeur. 7. Molina. 8. Castillo. Sherman for manager. 3) Castillo at the bottom of the order at least provides some patience -- prior to the pitchers spot -- after Francoeur and Molina, two of the least patient hitters in the majors not signing Molina would do more for the lineup's patience. I DONT like Castillo 8th, because he is a pure singles hitter who will leave the guys on base for the pitcher to clean up, and they might be tempted to go after him with a guy who cant hurt them on deck, i think i'd rather see Castillo 7th and the catcher 8th if castillo isnt 1st/2nd
  6. The right choice was made here as far as cost effectiveness, Bay got too much I think because he was one of he best players in a weak FA class, but paying Holliday like Beltran? YIKES!
  7. Do you suppose Trammell and Whittaker get less HOF respect than they deserve because they played their whole careers for one team, and never got free agent bigbux headlines? Trammell was as good or alot better (depending on how you want to value their respective defense) of a player than Derek Jeter is, he gets ignored partially for not being lucky enough to be surrounded by stars and partially for not playing in New York. I'm not sure if I'm as sold on Whitaker, but considereing the CRAP that manages to stay on the ballot sometimes it is perplexing that he fell off.
  8. i dont think Lowell is a good enough hitter at this point to make it worth taking him on and switching his position to get him in the lineup
  9. I hope Molina isn't coming
  10. Will Clemens throw something at Piazza during their induction speeches?
  11. i'd like to see what they can get out of Sheets on the cheap, most of all because it won't hurt the budget before the Free Agent Class of 2010-11
  12. Even Kansas City can say it has passed eight homegrown All-Stars through its system how many would have made the AS game at all without the "1 per team" rule?
  13. I have no problem with a two year deal for Molina. He played in a park even bigger than Citi Field and hit 20 HRs last year. And they'll bat him 8th and pinch run for him late anyway. i dont care if he hits 20, his OBP should scare you. and i'll bet the Mets, being followers of idiotic and outdated thinking, will look at those homers (and rbis) and bat him 6th more than 8th.
  14. and protects Carlos (we only have one now) then go get the other one back, way better than bringing molina in
  15. BAD NEWS waste of dollars when you can get 99% of Molina for under a million a year. his OBP will murder rallies. his fat body will kill them too on the few occassions he gets on base.
  16. I don't like it. I've soured alot on Bay after reading about his terrible defense and would have rather saved the money for next year or paid Holliday
  17. I think his use of the past tense when talking about a Molina signing is kind of interesting, like he considered it to have been a done deal by the time the article would be published. I think he was using the past tense to refer to the Blanco signing
  18. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Admit it, you just wanted to type that out! heres mine: X-Men 2 Batman Begins Dark Knight Lord of the Rings 1-3 Monsters, Inc. Die Another Day Road Trip Meet The Parents Ocean's Eleven Spider Man having constructed this list and looked at everyone else's, I'm convinced this was a bad decade for movies compared to both the 80's and 90's.
