The drop wasn't immediate but the you can argue that the bad seeds were sown around that time. I'm not saying that '73 is a perfect comp for 2015... The off-season is long, and I'd like to thank the team wearing the puke-colored jerseys for making it a little longer with their nausea inducing performance in Buffalo this past Sunday. Thought the above quote might be a fun topic and this forum could use one. How similar is the 1973 team to the 2015 one? is the failure of the former to sustain any level of success at all indicative of what we might expect now? discuss!
  2. sorry, that was in response to "Great. A fucking morals lesson from the guy that thinks it isn't anybody's business what Jeff Wilpon did to Leigh Castergine." since Castergine had nothing to do with anything there and you decided to throw up strawmen about defending everything non-baseball wilpon does when all i've ever talked about is baseball

As to the unlikelihood of anybody wanting to prosecute, or even issue a take down notice, yes, i agree. It's extremely unlikely. But that's not really the point, is it? agreed 100% in both cases based on the 1 semester of Copyright that I half-slept through.

  5. We really shouldn't post whole articles here primarily because they often interfere with or supercede conversation... this was my major point in bringing it up, though the copyright fair/use concerns are there too.
  6. 2015 vs 1973 Mets and their respective outlooks at the time for the next few years (2016-18 vs 1974-76) would make a great topic as opposed to more of the same we've had around here lately. I'm going to split off and see who wants to play rankings- 30 - Curtis Granderson 29 - Jacob deGrom 28 - Matt Harvey 27 - Lucas Duda 26 - Noah Syndergaard 25 - Daniel Murphy 24 - Travis d'Arnaud 23 - Yoenis Cespedes 22 - Wilmer Flores 21 - Ruben Tejada 20 - Michael Conforto 19 - David Wright 18 - Bartolo Colon 17 - Jon Niese 16 - Jeurys Familia 15 - Steven Matz 14 - Michael Cuddyer 13 - Juan Lagares 12 - Sean Gilmartin 11 - Kevin Plawecki 10 - Hansel Robles 9 - Juan Uribe 8 - Kelly Johnson 7 - Logan Verrett 6 - Erik Goeddel 5 - Alex Torres 4 - Tyler Clippard 3 - Eric Campbell 2 - Dillon Gee 1 - Carlos Torres
  7. based on the last 3 months of posts, this team finished 62-100 and missed the playoffs, right?

The writer deserves his click, can't you excerpt and link? or even comment on what you are posting? Go and click on that link ten times and then we'll be all even. Great. A fucking morals lesson from the guy that thinks it isn't anybody's business what Jeff Wilpon did to Leigh Castergine. Seriously batfucker, this is really about the forum, or any forum, being a better place and a better read when the posters are posting their opinions insteas of posting a giant block of text from someone else's without even saying anything about it. What did i say anything about Castergine and what does your post have to do with her?

  10. wow.
  11. If he had offered tidbits, they'd have hanged him for the tidbits. Were I him, it would have been hard to resist trolling the living hell out of the Heymen on nearly every page. Like, ending every chapter with something like But the power STILL wouldn't develop. I talked to friends, coaches, my Dad.... heck, I prayed on it. And that's when, stigma be damned, I made the decision to use those resistance bands my aunt had bought me for my birthday, even though they were pink. PINK! Like, totally queer, right? Next Chapter: the resistance bands didn't do the trick and the Home Runs still wouldn't come. I never liked the idea of putting artificial stuff in my body, but I finally bit the bullet and went to this shady pharmacy so I could take Flintstones Vitamins.

  13. where are you getting those numbers (other than thinking of teams that had lots of lefties and looking them up one at a time)
  14. it sucked that he couldn't stay on the field more, he went from being potentially a top-5 player all-time in the first half of his career to finishing probably just inside the top 50 if you look at total careers and not just his amazing peak.
  15. i want a writer to come out and say he didnt vote for Jeter because of the gift baskets.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: Stephen Drew to the Nats. One year. Three mills. I just hope he can give them everything he gave the Yankees the last two years. I actually like this deal. dirt cheap for anyone past arbitration age. what if he somehow finds even part of the skills he had 3-4 years ago? he isn't that old yet. they can still cut him in a heartbeat if he sucks
  17. Ceetar wrote: There's a crappy Heyman ballot and 'justification' of you're into hate-reading. Heyman is the king of all d-bags. he will vote for Bonds even though he admits Bonds used roids AND is lying about it, but he wont vote for Piazza and even says it is because of groundless suspicions! Heyman should be fired.
  18. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I also miss complete games. And black uniforms, too, but in the way that you'd miss a sinus infection. I'd add that I miss the days when the "closer" role would be shared by two pitchers, a righty and a lefty, like McGraw and Frisella or Orosco and McDowell. I hate the Mets' black uniforms. I also hate the closer role.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: I'm trying to think of a Mets free agent signing that was less popular at the point of transaction. Trachsel? Even the Cuddyer deal polled here at the Pool at a 3.63, on a scale from 1 (hate) to 5 (love). de Aza is under water at 2.5. proud to be 1 of only 4 "dislikes" on that shit stain of a deal.
  20. d'Kong76 wrote: Sorry, didn't read Nymr's post until just now. just keep posting with Jeter and Steroids in the sentence, maybe it will catch on somewhere.
  21. the whole thing is apparently a scam as the "source" now says he didn't even work at the clinic in question when Peyton was there. if i had realized the original source was al jazeera i wouldnt have believed a word to begin with. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14441114/documentary-links-peyton-manning-other-pro-athletes-use-peds Sly also says he mentioned St. Jeter's name, but apparently THAT never got raised? i guess even the fake reporter knew nobody can accuse him of anything!
  22. MFS62 wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Cesar Puello, released outright back in August, has also signed a minor league deal with the Yankees. As I sadly noted in the Prospect Forum yesterday. Please don't tell me he did it to get back at his adoptive family. Sigh. Later i hope he fails another steroid test, i really hope he gets the roids from Arod.
  23. indifferent - they needed a guy like this and got him. nothing exciting but glad it wasnt multiple years or a lost draft pick for a spare part (Cuddyer!)
  24. Another bad deal Castillo. Many long term deals turn out bad, you need to pick the least bad ones and do it, there may not be a worthwile one every offseason. Heyward really might be the exception because of his age and that's the only guy I would have really wanted. But even he could just end up "on"
  25. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Benjamin Grimm wrote: I think, in a vacuum, each of the moves that the Mets made were fair to good. (This one is on the lower end, as is De Aza.) The problem is really that the sum of these moves doesn't seem to be adding up to much. Well I think the Mets would disagree with that, or they wouldn't be doing this. It might be sad or distasteful to acknowledge this, but there's a clear parallel between our current offseason and the famous "Moneyball" offseason of 2001-02 in Oakland. Like us, they lost the biggest impact bat in the league that year because they couldn't afford it, but attempted to make up for the loss by spreading it across a range of several cheaper guys and banking on young pitching. Jonah Hill, man. of course Jason Giambi was that more player for more than 2 months, the A's refused to pay Giambi at age 30 for the next 7 years to be the player he had been for the past 3-4 years. The Mets are refusing to pay Cespedes for the next ~5-8 years based on who he was for a couple of months. we'll ultimately see what deal he gets and with who, but i'm betting it will be an overpay.
