1. German Marquez is another 200 strikeout Rockie. i whiffed a lot in the other 2 columns.
2. Scherzer and Alonso are like "oh, we're giving up on the season? FUCK THAT"
3. Very interesting, he was warming up in the bullpen prior to the rain delay so this must have been completed VERY last minute
4. its been so long since i listened to the Mets on radio i didnt even know they were on 880 now. i thought they were on 710
5. I'm gonna stick to baseball.
6. ok fine it pouring now, but in that time we could have taken the lead and no 9th inning necessary!
7. what the fuck the umps are killing our rally before it even starts raining hard?
8. Frayed Knot wrote: That was Kingman in '77 when he became the first player to play for a team in each of the four (there were only four then) divisions within the same season. The Mets dealt him to the Pads who later flipped him to the Angels before the Yanx decided they needed him strictly for a late-season series in Fenway and acquired him in September. He had 24 ABs as a Yanqui and hit four HRs + two 2Bs .... How the fuck are you not going 9 for 9 every day?
9. came up 1 short today with no Giants/Angels crossovers. looking at the list afterwards there are a few that spent significant time in both places that I should have known. Also, I knew they were both Giants, but very brief Angels cameos I wasn't aware of for Dave Kingman and Edgardo Alfonzo!
10. Is that really Matt Harvey in front of Aaron Rodgers or is this a joke I missed?
11. Frayed Knot wrote: I hope it goes without saying so that this thread pertains to non-NYM deals over the next five days, but one never knows when the conservation of threads committee will rear its ugly head. I volunteer for said committee!
12. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=132858 time=1690406344 user_id=68] I'm not sure why the Mets would sell, given Cohen's wealth and his willingness -- heck, eagerness -- to spend it on payroll. What would the Mets reduce payroll-wise? A negligible amount of salary? And for what? To get back some AA chumps? Might as well ride it out. They're only seven games out and almost half the teams will make the playoffs. The schedule is very forgiving. If this were a total tear-down, where Alonso and McNeil were made available, then I'd understand, but it's not a total teardown. Raley and Pham are gonna bring back players that aren't on anybody's radar.
13. I finally did it! An All METS grid!

I know it's probably not the least, because some years, the BBWAA produced only one inductee, and then the Hall kind of put the screws to the Vets Committee to make sure they selected somebody to round out the ceremony, but that second guy would have been typically weaker. recent classes have been pretty weak 2022: David Ortiz and a bunch of guys the Veterans committee let in but shouldn't have 2021: Nobody! 2020: The worst defensive player OF ALL TIME and a guy who did all his damage at pre-humidor Coors, 2014-2019 were all pretty good classes and with that backlog of players gone its been downhill since 2013 was brutal - a yankee owner, an umpire, and an above-average but not great ballplayer who played his last game in 1890 - who the heck did his great great grandkids pay off? 2012 was roughly the same as this year - Larkin = Rolen and Santo = a very borderline addition, to be generous.
16. Fernando Rodney took me forever and was really a wild guess I'm shocked at Roger Clemens being only 7%
17. "Grandma's plastic couch wrap" might be the best conversation the ESPN announcers have ever had on air, though I admit it is a low bar.
18. Frayed Knot wrote: Is it just me, or do we manage to embarrass ourselves on SNB about 80% of the time? I don't feel that prime time games have been very kind to the Mets - or the Jets for that matter - in recent years.
19. Frayed Knot wrote: =ashie62 post_id=132611 time=1690158271 user_id=90] I would be available to drive Cookie to the airport next Sunday Got a replacement in mind?
20. Frayed Knot wrote: I think I also heard that there's more than one game in this series too, but I'll have to check on that and get back to you. I thought we established yesterday that you the goal is to win that multi-game series?
21. As a native Staten Islander Jason Marquis is not obscure at all!
22. The manager should generally be trying to win games. But it reaches the point in a season (and we aren't there yet but we are darn close) where a directive from the front office needs to supersede that. You are still trying to win games, but with the added directive that, win or lose, you need to get Alvarez, Baty, & Vientos X amount of playing time as determined by the front office so that the front office will see them play and be better educated as to the Mets holes for next year.
23. Alonso looking for redemption!
