  1. David Wright singles in two. He knows that the Mets need to score as many runs as possible before Jason Bay's turn at bat.

  6. Rosario was a Rule 5 pick from the Orioles who evidently didn't stick and was returned to Milwaukee: MacPhail on the addition of Adrian Rosario December 9, 2010 10:07 AM Here are some comments from Andy MacPhail on Adrian Rosario, the right-handed pitcher the O's took from the Milwaukee organization in this morning's Rule 5 draft: "Big bodied, lack of experience, good arm kid that captured the imagination of our guys. He has a chance to grow into something, whether he is ready or not, we'll find out. Didn't feel like we could miss the opportunity to take a chance on him. "Interestingly enough, Milwaukee took one of our guys and we took one of theirs. That's a dynamic frankly we didn't anticipate. Interesting to see how the spring plays out." Could Rosario make it on the O's roster the entire season? "If we didn't think he was promising enough, obviously when we take a guy down at that level (A ball), it's a real good arm and a very projectable body. Sometimes guys can come very quickly. You'll see in spring training, he really looks the role and he's got good stuff. Whether he is ready for this or not, we'll find out in spring training. But it's such a cheap gamble, you might as well." "Sometimes guys can come very quickly?" Wow, these scouting reports really get in-depth.
  7. I wanna say the Mets have faced Hererra before (edit: yeah, he's pitched against 'em. Why I remember shit like this and not birthdays of loved ones is pretty fucking stupid). He was kinda heralded coming out of New Mexico, for a lolly pop kid. Wait, does this mean the Mets have their first New Mexican? He was born in Odessa, Texas.
  8. What they're saying in Milwaukee: Rosario, Herrera complete K-Rod deal Updated: Sept. 1, 2011 1:35 p.m. The Brewers completed the trade for Francisco Rodriguez today by sending minor league pitchers Adrian Rosario and Daniel Herrera to the New York Mets. So, all of you in Brewer Nation who have fretted for a month and a half that the Brewers were trading some of their top prospects, relax. Rosario, who was selected by Baltimore in the Rule 5 draft last December but returned to the Brewers after spring training, started the year at Class A Wisconsin and went 0-1 with a 1.34 ERA in 19 relief outings, with 42 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. He was promoted to high Class A Brevard County, where he was 4-5 with a 5.83 ERA in 16 outings (14 starts). Herrera, a 5-foot-6 lefty reliever, made two forgetable appearances for the Brewers in Boston this year (1 2/3 innings, 6 hits, 5 runs, 1 HR) before being returned to Class AAA Nashville, where he pitched very well. In 29 relief outings, he was 1-0 with a 1.48 ERA, holding opponents to a .203 batting average. Herrera was claimed off waivers earlier in the season from Cincinnati. Rosario was traded and Herrera technically was claimed off waivers by the Mets, who will take him to the big leagues, reportedly. They were two of the five names on a list submitted by the Brewers to the Mets after acquiring K-Rod. New York had until today to select two of those five players. Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said he expected the Mets to take those players but wouldn't reveal the other three names. "Herrera was in a tough situation (with the Brewers) but he has pitched well (in Nashville)," said Melvin. "Rosario has a good arm."
  9. Herrera had a nice AAA season this year: 2.20 ERA in 61.1 relief innings (46 games). Not so hot in Milwaukee: A 21.60 ERA, but in only 2 games and 1.2 innings. Eligible for arbitration in 2012, but unlikely to get a large award.

I long ago decided that if I ever bought a Mets jersey (which is unlikely) I'd get 63, for two reasons: No Met had ever worn it, and it's the year of my birth. Now one of those two reasons is shot.
  11. Don't rule out the possibility that they may be delusional. They may actually need the money more than they think they do.
  12. I suspect that the Mets are less desperate for help than they were a few months ago. I don't know why that would be, but it seems like it may be the case.
  13. That seems to explain the discrepancy. Thanks!

  18. No Schwinden? Or just not yet? Mets to Add Two From Minors By ANDREW KEH The Mets announced Wednesday night that they would promote two minor leaguers, pitcher Josh Stinson and infielder Josh Satin, once rosters can expand on Sept. 1. And the call-ups, as expected, exhibited just how much the Mets vision of the season has changed since spring training, well before the team was ravaged by injuries and trades. On Wednesday, Manager Terry Collins listed the names that he had expected to see as September call-ups: Ruben Tejada, Lucas Duda, Nick Evans, Mike Nickeas. And theyre all already here, Collins said. As Collins explained, many players the Mets would have granted chances to showcase their skills are already getting those opportunities. At the same time, the Mets are effectively out of the pennant race, meaning they do not need to stock their bench with additional tools. Earlier Wednesday, the assistant general manager John Ricco revealed how the Mets front office had managed these particular circumstances approaching the call-up period. You can always use extra bullpen arms, Ricco said. Its been a long season, guys are getting tired. Septembers a good time to be able to supplement the team a bit. Stinson, 23, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, fits that category. He has worked most recently out of the bullpen for Class AA Binghamton, posting a 3.99 earned run average in 27 games there. Ricco said: The other thing you look to do is if theres a guy or two whos had an outstanding minor league season, whether or not theyre a prospect, sometimes you look to reward them. That would be Satin. Satin, 26, started the year at Class AA Binghamton, where he hit .325 with 11 home runs in 94 games. He continued to hit at Buffalo, posting a .317 average with one home run in 38 games. His skills call to mind Daniel Murphy: a line-drive hitter with perhaps no natural position in the field. In an interview this month, General Manager Sandy Alderson acknowledged some of Satins shortcomings and said he doubted the Mets would promote him by years end. Hes older, and some commentators will say he doesnt have a position, Alderson said. But, as Alderson added, Hes an excellent hitter, and if you can hit, youll get an opportunity in the big leagues. Alderson proved his own words true.

Bay is guaranteed $35 million. Zambrano is only guaranteed $18 million, and it would go up to $37.5 if Zambrano has a very strong 2012. And if Zambrano sucks, you bump him to long relief and he's gone after one year. You still come out $17 million ahead. I don't imagine the Cubs would do a straight-up swap, but maybe if the Mets threw in some cash.
