  2. The season is about three weeks too long for them.
  3. When Darryl Strawberry was called a can't miss, and then he became a star, I (for a while) had more faith than was warranted in the "can't miss" tag. I've long since gotten over that. (Anyone remember Alex Escobar?) If you trade prospect for prospect, it can end up being a great deal, an awful one, or somewhere in between. You shouldn't be overly eager, or overly hesitant, about making such deals.
  4. Yeah, I don't see how Harvey for Grandal would have to be a non-starter. Nobody is a sure-thing. If Grandal is closer to being ready, and plays a hard-to-fill position, and is available, then it should be considered.
  5. Good for him! I hope he ends up next year on a team that I have no rooting interest against.

My uncle Kenny pours concrete and can give them a nice deal." Exactly. It can be a cheap padded free-standing wall like the one they had at Shea. I bet they can get it installed for just a couple of thousand bucks.
  7. Voting for the first two games of the current series against the Nationals will close on Friday morning. Schaefer POTG 9/12/11 - Nationals 3, Mets 2 Schaefer POTG 9/13/11 - Nationals 3, Mets 2

  9. The new team would be responsible. That's why the Brewers renegotiated with Frankie Rodriguez. Once they acquired him, the $17.5 million for 2012 became their problem, not the Mets'.
  10. Pelfrey 5 Batista 1 Stinson 1
  11. Brad Peacock: Both his first and last name are valid Scrabble words. Same is true of Angel Pagan.

  14. Ceetar wrote: And this one seems even easier to avoid. He'd need to play like 150 games in 2013 and the more he sucks, the more he'll get pinch hit for, the further down in the lineup he'll bat, etc. It's even simpler than that. They can (and likely will) just release him.
  15. The vesting of Bay's option can be easily avoided. They'll release him at some point in 2013 before the 2014 option gets a chance to kick in. It's not something to worry about. Upgrading at catcher is certainly something the Mets should consider. I wouldn't be upset at the thought of trading a 19-year-old with no clear position for a 22-year-old catcher who appears to be very close to being ready for the big leagues, especially if he's considered a future All-Star.
  16. Didn't help his chances for the Mile High Club either.

  18. One potential vacation destination for us next summer is the Grand Canyon. I can see us trying to time that trip, if it happens, with the Mets visit to Phoenix in late July. A jaunt in May to Toronto might also be fun.
  19. Jose's next contract has to be looking a lot less lucrative now than it did two and a half months ago, right? Two injuries (and it sounds like a third on the way) and he's now well past that superhuman stretch with which he opened the season. I really have no clue as to how this will play out. (I think the Mets have a shot at signing Jose during the exclusive negotiating period, but geez, who the hell really knows?) Mets' Reyes resistant to running By DAN MARTIN Last Updated: 8:24 AM, September 14, 2011 Jose Reyes had three more hits last night and scored the Mets' first run in a 3-2 loss to the Nationals at Citi Field, but he still has just one stolen base since returning from the disabled list on Aug. 29 -- and he hasn't tripled since July 21. Reyes admitted his lack of aggression on the basepaths is because he still is unsure of the left hamstring that has landed him on the DL twice this season. "It's not the same," Reyes said after the Mets dropped their fourth straight game and sixth in seven. "Earlier in the season I was healthy. I feel like my leg is not quite there yet. It's not where it needs to be." Reyes did not attempt a stolen base again last night. "It's good enough to play," Reyes said. "I'll give you everything that I have. It is hard, but I can get through it." He hasn't given up the idea that he will feel like himself by the end of the season. "I hope so," said Reyes, who is batting .331 and again said he is not thinking about his battle with Milwaukee's Ryan Braun for the NL batting crown. Terry Collins understands Reyes' attitude. "I've emphasized he's gotta stay healthy and stay in the lineup," the manager said. "We talk every single day about it."
  20. So in addition to the home-away series vs. the Yankees, the Mets IL play involves trips to Toronto and Tampa, and a visit from the Orioles.
  21. My first guess for the meaning of NLDB was "Nationals Loving Douchebags" A Negro Leagues database is a very worthy and ambitious project. I doubt it can ever be truly complete, since a lot of records are probably lost and unlikely to be recovered. But to have a central place to store whatever exists, and to add future rediscoveries, is a great great thing.
