Benjamin Grimm

Let's all camp out on his driveway until he signs.

Why is Robinson Cano deciding who is in Home Run Derby? It's just a show for the fans, right? Why would he not choose to have a hometown favorite in the competition? I saw a quote where he said something about how he wanted to choose the best team possible. Why? Does this "count" too?

Reggie was being impolitic, but for the most part, I don't think he was wrong, at least not completely. I agree with him about Sutton and Niekro. Not sure about Rice and Puckett. Disagree about Carter.

I made this card in February 2008, right after the big trade. The photo is of Johan as a Twin, but I Photoshopped a Mets cap on his head:

Voting for Thursday night's walkoff win over the Phillies will close on Tuesday morning. And don't forget to vote for the games against the Cubs! I'll post the official reminder tomorrow, but these games are very low on votes right now. Schaefer POTG 7/5/12 - Mets 6, Phillies 5

I didn't vote this year, and I won't vote next year either. I'm sorry David didn't get the start, but I feel no personal guilt about it. I won't be watching the game, and I won't even be aware that I'm not watching the game.

I was actually considering going to this game. I'm glad that the motivation never kicked in. It takes a lot of effort for me to get to Citi Field and it's especially important to avoid the dud games.

A bunch of UMDB memories were posted today.

Good Humor ice cream around the world: When I was in Europe two years ago, we noticed that the logo was the same in Spain, Portugal, and Gibraltar, but it had a different name. (Ola, Frigo, or Walls)

Voting for the first two games played against the Phillies will close some time over the weekend. Since this notice is coming a little late on Friday morning, I'll promise not to close the voting threads until Sunday morning at the earliest. Both games look like they can use a few more votes. SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JUNE 2012 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month and Pitcher of the Month for June 2012 is R. A. DICKEY. This is the second time that R.A. has been the Player of the Month, and the unprecedented sixth consecutive time that he's been the Pitcher of the Month. It was a month that started with Johan Santana pitching a historic no-hitter, but from then on it was R.A. all the way. Dickey was 5-0 in June in 6 starts. He had 55 strikeouts in 48.1 innings, and his ERA was only 0.93. He finished a solid 7.62 points ahead of the runner up, a rejuvenated Ike Davis, who had 6 home runs in June, along with 24 runs batted in and a triple-slash of .264/.363/.563. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a first-time winner, BOBBY PARNELL. Bobby had a 2.45 ERA in June over 13 games. He saved 1 game. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for June is SCOTT HAIRSTON. Scott earned 7.86 points in June in games in which he was not in the starting lineup. He finished comfortably ahead of Ike Davis' 0.92 points.
