  5. From Cape Town, South Africa... SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JULY 2012 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for July 2012 is DAVID WRIGHT. This is David's third win of the year. He only hit .255 in July, but had 7 home runs and 21 rbi. The Pitcher of the Month is JON NIESE, ending a six-month streak by R.A. Dickey. It wasn't a great month for Mets pitchers, or for the Mets at all. Niese was 1-2 in five starts, with a 4.63 ERA. It's the second time he has been Pitcher of the Month. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is a first-time winner, JOSH EDGIN. Bobby had a 2.70 ERA in July over 11 games. He struck out 18 batters in 10 innings. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for July is, by a wide margin, JORDANNY VALDESPIN. Jordanny, with his knack for pinch homers, earned 9.03 points in July in games in which he was not in the starting lineup. He finished comfortably ahead of Daniel Murphy's 1,88 points. Updated award winner standings, with this month's winners in bold: PLAYER OF THE MONTH David Wright 13 Johan Santana 6 Carlos Beltran 5 Jose Reyes 5 Cliff Floyd 2 Tom Glavine 2 Carlos Delgado 2 Ike Davis 2 R. 7. I think they want Hairston for next year, and figure that their chances of keeping him are better if he stays with the team for the remainder of 2012. If that's true, then I'm okay with not dealing him. Byrdak seems to be a bit of a different story. If they can even get a middling AA prospect for him, they might as well.
  8. You're right! It was totally unintentional. I'm probably groggy with pre-jetlag.
  9. And Cliff Lee may also be on his way out. Pence is signed through 2013, so he's a better get. Victorino is a free agent this fall. Might he be a Met? I have no idea how much money he'll be looking to get.
  10. I agree. If it were possible to trade Santana or Bay, then I would expect them to seriously consider it. But that's not the case. Hairston may conceivably be a part of a contending Mets club next year (if a lot of other things go right) and if they want to keep him so they can try to sign him, I'm okay with that.
  11. Oops, sorry. I meant Tuesday. This is a crazy week for me.
  12. I'd argue that there should be no more than 357 shades of green.
  13. My guess is that the Mets won't make any moves today.
  14. Voter participation seems to be on a bit of an upswing lately. Nice to see... my thanks to all those who participate. We're going to break the pattern a bit for a while. My flight to South Africa leaves tomorrow morning. I expect to have Internet access at least through Monday of next week while I'm in Cape Town. I plan to get all of July tallied when I have some down time. (I'm usually the first in my family to wake up, so I may do some Internetting while in a dark and silent hotel room.) Please try to have all July games (the ones listed below plus the yet-to-be-played July 31 game) voted by Saturday of this week. I'll tally the votes on Sunday or at my first chance thereafter. I probably won't be posting any more reminders. I'll let myself fall behind on all games played in August and get caught up when I return to the U.S.A. on August 20. Despite the lack of my customary reminders, please keep starting the threads and casting your votes. During the last few years the Mets have nose-dived during my summer vacations. Maybe, now that they've already had an awful stretch, this year things will be different and I'll come back to find the Mets in the heart of a wild-card race. Let's hope so, anyway. Thank you, and Let's go Mets! 16. Rumor had it the Mets were talking to the Cubs about him, prior to the July freefall.
  17. Voting for Thursday night's win in Phoenix (Matt Harvey's debut) will close on Wednesday morning. Schaefer POTG 7/26/12 - Diamondbacks 1, Mets 3
  18. I think they will cut him, but not before spring training 2013.
  19. Dickey 5 Hairston 1.5 Murphy 1 Torres 1.5 Wright 1
