  1. Home runs hit, by position, in 1980. There are a few cases where a player played more than one outfield position in a game in which he homered. I neglected to determine which position he was playing at the time he hit the home run. Either way, we have 16 homers from the infield, 41 from the outfield, and 4 from pinch hitters. 1b Jorgensen Mike 3 1b Mazzilli Lee 6 3b Brooks Hubie 1 3b Maddox Elliott 4 3b Moreno Jos 1 3b Youngblood Joel 1 cf Jorgensen Mike 1 cf Mazzilli Lee 10 cf Morales Jerry 3 cf Youngblood Joel 2 cf-rf Youngblood Joel 1 lf Henderson Steve 7 lf Washington Claudell 2 lf-rf Washington Claudell 1 ph Henderson Steve 1 ph Moreno Jos 1 ph Norman Dan 2 rf Jorgensen Mike 3 rf Washington Claudell 6 rf Youngblood Joel 4 rf-lf Washington Claudell 1
  2. Ron Hodges' homer in 1984 came as a pinch hitter.
  3. Other seasons that were light on home runs by a catcher. As Ceetar said, there were zero in 1980. 1967 Grote Jerry 4 1970 Dyer Duffy 2 1970 Grote Jerry 2 1971 Dyer Duffy 2 1971 Grote Jerry 2 1973 Dyer Duffy 1 1973 Grote Jerry 1 1973 Hodges Ron 1 1981 Hodges Ron 1 1981 Stearns John 1 1983 Fitzgerald Mike 1 1984 Fitzgerald Mike 2
  4. Wasn't there a season somewhere around 1980 where the Mets had very very few homers by a catcher?
  5. How did he get that name? And what's his wife's name, and what's she like?
  6. I think that the fact that the Mets showed more patience with Davis than they did with Duda hints at the team's relative regard for the two players. I'm very curious to see what they'll do for the 2013 outfield. My guess is that Bay remains, at least for a while, as a fourth or fifth outfielder, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him released late in spring training. They'll probably cobble together a starting outfield out of three of the following: Hairston, Baxter, Duda, Nieuwenhuis, Valdespin, den Dekker and one offseason acquisition. I have to wonder who is tradeable on the Mets. Their depth seems to be with young pitching, but I suspect they won't want to part with Harvey or Wheeler. Gee would have been a good trade chip if not for that out-of-nowhere shoulder problem. Would they trade Niese? Maybe. Does Francisco have any trade value? Given how teams overvalue closers, I suppose it's possible. Murphy? I would think not as much as he did three months ago. I saw someone speculating that the Mets could trade Pelfrey, but if the Mets tender him his contract would likely be too high for a pitcher who hasn't pitched since April. Some teams may want to give Valdespin a try, but none of these guys seem like anyone who will bring back real quality.
  7. Well, if each team is playing 20 interleague games, it won't be "far more" than is necessary. And even if two teams have their home opener against teams in the other league, it doesn't mean that they'll be at the same time. Home openers are stretched out over a wide range of dates. But regardless of that, yes, Bud Selig sucks.
  8. I'd like to think that it's a Harry Parker tribute.

  10. The first (and only) time that I saw 2001 I was well into my 30's, and it did bore the crap out of me. I kept waiting for it to get good, but it never did. I also liked Strangers on a Train more than I do Vertigo. But as far as Hitchcock movies go, I have a special fondness for Shadow of a Doubt. I haven't yet seen The Searchers or Fort Apache. I like Liberty Valance a lot, but was disappointed by She Wore a Yellow Ribbon.
  11. Thanks. I just posted a new photo that's more Omar and less Jordany.
  12. Met Hunter wrote: I couldn't locate anything. But i did a search on a SS death index site and found this. It looks like a match. RIP Harry. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K49F-PC4 That does appear to be a match. The guy who posted the news of Harry's death said he was working for the Commonwealth of Virgina at the time of his passing. I've written back to the person who posted the news to see if he could tell us what local paper might have carried his obituary.
  13. I was sifting through some unposted UMDB memories this morning, and found one from June where a co-worker of Mets pitcher Harry Parker reported that Parker had died in late May. I can't find any online confirmation of this.

  17. What's all this about a blackout? Did I miss something?
  18. Isn't Crawford on the DL? And doesn't that mean he can't be traded? Or is was that rule discarded with the last CBA?
  19. I suspect they said, "We'll see you again after September 1."
  20. Voting for Wednesday's loss to the Rockies will close over the weekend, but not before Sunday. Schaefer POTG 8/22/12 - Rockies 5, Mets 2
