  1. That's a silly-looking cap. Didn't they used to be the Las Vegas Stars? I like that name a lot better.
  2. I just posted some NL POTW trivia to the UMDB Facebook page: Matt Harvey was named the National League Player of the Week for the week ending April 14. This was the 79th time that a Mets player has won this honor. 47 different Mets players over the years have been named Player of the Week. The most frequent winner was Dwight Gooden, with 5. Darryl Strawberry and Tom Seaver were named Player of the Week 4 times. Three-time winners are Dave Kingman, Jesse Orosco, Keith Hernandez, John Olerud, Mike Piazza, Carlos Beltran, and David Wright. Not all winners have been legendary Mets; among the Players of the Week are players like Mike Phillips, Frank Taveras, Octavio Dotel, Dave Mlicki. Just scanning down the list of winners, I notice that the biggest gap between Mets POTWs is from August 17, 2008 (Johan Santana) to September 4, 2011 (David Wright). Another stretch that was nearly as long ran from July 31, 1977 (Steve Henderson) to May 25, 1980 (Frank Taveras). The Mets have had a few winning seasons without a win, including 1987 and 2001.

  4. I think you should have a doctor take a look at that.
  5. National Weather Service wrote: Snow. Low around 26. North wind 7 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  6. I would assume that the Rockies would pay for the uniforms, since it's their promotion.
  7. Mets who have been Player of the Week Frank Taveras! Wow!
  8. Whatever it takes to get you through a tripleheader.
  9. They probably backed off from the idea because somebody said that it was ugly.
  10. dinosaur jesus wrote: So why can't they just make them day games? I was thinking the same thing. The "ticket contract" already states that the game time is subject to change.
  11. I'm sure that the Rockies are as reluctant to have their players play in 9-degree weather as the Mets are. I like the Hawaii idea. Puerto Rico would work too.
  12. Byrd 1.2 Cowgill 0.7 Harvey 5.1 Murphy 1 Tejada 0.5 Turner 1 Wright 0.5
  13. Zvon wrote: Love the old Twins unis they are wearing today. I was thinking the same thing.
  14. Kong76 wrote: Someone get Elias on the wire and see if the Mets have ever scored 5 runs in the first and second innings. Nope, it's never happened. They scored 5 in the first and 4 in the second on July 14, 1995 (Mets 13, Rockies 4 at Shea) and on July 8, 2006 (Mets 17, Marlins 3, at Shea). They scored 6 in the first and 4 in the second on September 29, 2000. (Mets 11, Expos 2, also at Shea.)
  15. Baxter 0.5 Buck 2 Byrd 1 Murphy 3 Tejada 0.5 Valdespin 1 Wright 2
  16. That may very well be. The New York Times article quoted on the first page of this thread makes it sound more like an emotional decision than a financial one: The Twins vowed never to play again at the Metrodome, where they were considered secondary tenants to the Vikings of the N.F.L. But you're right; they'd have to build a mound, restore the infield cutouts, put up two foul poles and who knows what else, and on pretty short notice. It's probably impractical for many reasons.
  17. Game on. The Twins will be giving free coffee and hot chocolate to the fans. I'm not sure why the Twins have such a staunch opposition to playing in the Metrodome, but I think if I was a ticketholder, I'd prefer, under such extraordinary circumstances, to return to the old place for a couple of games rather than face potential hypothermia. But maybe that's just me. Hey! Free hot chocolate! Does that offer apply to those of us who watch from home?
  18. Justin Turner probably looked like a viking.
  19. These days, just about everything is offensive to somebody.
  20. Zvon awarded 10.2 points, so his votes were prorated as follows: Murphy 0.59 Wright 0.59 Byrd 0.2 Duda 0.2 Buck 2.55 Tejada 0.98 Harvey 4.11 Edgin 0.78
  21. That Becker card is ugly. But, on the other hand, the 1971 Tom Hall card made me smell bubble gum!
  22. The decision to play will be made Friday morning, St. Peter said. I just checked, and don't see any sign of an announcement. The Twins website is still selling tickets for tonight's game. I'm not sure if that means they've decided to play, or simply haven't yet decided to cancel.
