  1. Byrd 0.75 Davis 1.5 Hefner 4.75 Lyon 0.75 Murphy 0.75 Tejada 0.75 Wright 0.75
  2. Hefner's being economical, anyway. One out in the fourth and he's only thrown 46 pitches.
  3. Dodgers have already scored in the top of the first.
  4. Just don't post any pictures of what goes on in the BJ's Clubhouse!
  5. Yes, that was pretty much my point. Instead he should be saying, "Lucas, it doesn't matter if you bat fourth or sixth or whatever. Just step up to the plate and do what you do best."
  6. Right. But that shouldn't affect the player at all.
  7. Everyone needs to stop fostering the illusion that the position in the lineup matters. When it's your turn to bat, step up to the plate and do your job. What matters is who the pitcher is, what the score is, what runners are on base, not the position in the batting order.
  8. 5-16, .238. Projects to a final record of 39-123. I was rooting for the Tigers to lose 121 games back in 2003, but I felt kinda bad about it. If the Marlins break the 1962 Mets record, I won't feel bad at all.
  9. Atchison 1 Carson 1.5 Familia 0.5 Murphy 1.5 Tejada 0.5 Wright 1
  10. He may have a chance at a big league job with the Mets. If Ike Davis continues to be a 30-homer, .220 guy he'll be the type who could get an arbitration award that's significantly higher than the Mets want to pay. Boyd's arrival time may coincide with, should it come to that, the time that the Mets will cut ties with Ike similarly to the way they did last year with Pelfrey.
  11. There was another Harvey on the Honeymooners, the little boy that Alice was babysitting. Ralph thought that Harvey was an adult with whom Alice was having an affair. He yelled for Harvey to come out of his bedroom, and when he did, Harvey looked at Ralph in his raccoon cap and delivered the great line: "I didn't know Davey Crockett was so fat!"
  12. Frayed Knot wrote: OK, so it turns out Lagares was hitting for someone else and not Atchinson so my above point is less apt, but Carson had still retired 6 of 7 prior to being yanked and had 2-out and none-on. It was a double-switch.
  13. Any prognosis on Niese yet? Needless to say, losing him would hurt a lot.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: None of them have the good sense to keep it off Twitter. And that's the really crazy part.
  15. Let's see if Terry uses him out of the bullpen tonight. Yes, I know that Lagares is an outfielder...
  16. Jeff's head looks more natural than Gable's.
  17. How old is this family friend? I'm afraid it's my brother-in-law and his wife, but they're in their 40's and I can't imagine they'd get mixed up in this!
  18. The only inning I recall watching him pitch was the one against Washington. The Mets had just had a five-run inning to chase Gio Gonzalez and take a 5-3 lead. Laffey comes in, gets the first two batters out, and then gives up three runs. What a buzzkill that was.
  19. I was thinking the same thing. Why is she sharing this with a bunch of strangers?
  20. UMDB Facebook page wrote: Matt Harvey's quick 4-0 record this season had us wondering about other Mets pitchers who won each of their first four starts of a season. It turns out that Harvey is the eighth Mets pitcher to accomplish this. The full list: Jerry Koosman, 1968. 34.2 innings, 27 strikeouts, 1.04 ERA. Tom Seaver, 1972. 30.2 innings, 33 strikeouts, 1.47 ERA. Jerry Koosman, 1973. 34 innings, 14 strikeouts, 1.06 ERA. Dwight Gooden, 1988. 26 innings, 22 strikeouts, 2.77 ERA. Frank Viola, 1990. 27.1 innings, 29 strikeouts, 1.32 ERA. Armando Reynoso, 1998. 28 innings, 12 strikeouts, 1.93 ERA. Pedro Martinez, 2006. 26.2 innings, 28 strikeouts, 3.04 ERA. Matt Harvey, 2013. 29 innings, 32 strikeouts, 0.93 ERA. Gooden, Viola, Reynoso, and Martinez were the only four of the above to extend the streak to five games. Gooden's streak ended at six games. Frank Viola is the only Mets pitcher to get a win in each of his first seven starts in a season. At the conclusion of the game of May 5, 1990 he was 7-0 with a 0.87 ERA and 52 strikeouts in 51.2 innings. He ended the season 20-12 with a 2.67 ERA.
  21. But there are more in-between steps for Nieuwenhuis. He didn't go from hitting .346 (and slugging .551) in AAA to sitting on the Mets bench. In the last year, he pretty much played his way out of a starting position. If Lagares were to come out of the Vegas outfield to sit on the New York bench, that would be a different thing, and a mistake, unless it's just for a short period.
  22. It hasn't been confirmed that Lagares is being promoted; Adam Rubin can still end up with egg on his face. But if so, I'd question the idea of bringing up a guy who's thriving in AAA to sit on the bench in the big leagues, unless it's for a short stint. If he's considered a prospect (and I think he is) he should play. Duda has been doing well, so he should continue to play frequently, but Lagares should be able to steal enough time from Byrd, Cowgill, Nieuwenhuis, and Valdespin to play at least three out of every four games.
