  2. That WAS me! I'm surprised it took you so long to figure it out!
  3. Byrd 1 Davis 3 Duda 2 Quintanilla 3
  4. If he was telling the truth about his profession, and the St. Louis-to-Memphis-to-St. Louis stuff, then he'd probably be easily recognizable to people who know him.
  5. I would never have tolerated "Joe" as long as he did. And I never would have given him any kind of response.
  6. Voting for the two games the Mets won in the Bronx last week, which seems like a much longer time ago, will close on Tuesday afternoon, some time after 2 p.m. Schaefer POTG 5/29/13 - Mets 9, MFYs 4 Schaefer POTG 5/30/13 - Mets 3, MFY's 1
  7. GAH! That cap is hideous! That link led me to this article: Trolling Right Along... And that led me to the response from Kirsten.
  8. The rotation often gets jumbled after Opening Day, because of skipped starts, doubleheaders, etc. There is no longer a "head" of the rotation. And Harvey is clearly the ace of the staff.
  9. Marcum 1.5 Murphy 0.8 Quintanilla 0.8
  10. Breaking the theme of this thread a little bit... There's an SNY commercial that says that if you stack all 29 New York City basketball players, they'd be able to reach the Statue of Liberty's nose. Why does New York City have an uneven number of basketball players? Don't the Knicks and Nets have the same number of players on their rosters?
  11. We played it the same way in my neighborhood too. The circles around the position were more obvious, but there were specific colors assigned to each team.
  12. Confused... You said it's only happened five times, yet you list far more occurrences than that.
  13. No, the player name and team name differed by team. The Mets had the player name in pink and the team name in black. Other teams had different colors. The Dodgers were pink and blue. The Cubs were red and blue. The Yankees were indigo and black.
  14. 1971: orange and light blue 1972: red, orange and yellow 1974: orange and blue 1976: light blue and gold 1977: light blue and orange 1978: yellow and light blue 1979: brown and yellow He missed 1973: dark pink and black
  15. It was a nice week. And maybe next week will be nice too. I do think that there's a chance that the second and third trimesters of this season will be better than the first. Hopefully a good chance. I doubt that this improvement, whatever it may be, will be enough to make the 2013 Mets contenders. (I've been hoping that this year will be another 1983. It started out like a 2003. Will it end up like a 1973? That would be fabulous, but I'm not counting on it.) So what can go right the rest of the way? * Harvey continues to be Harvey. * Wright and Murphy and Parnell keep it going. * Dillon Gee gets his shit together. * Ike Davis gets his shit together. * Ruben Tejada gets his shit together. * Lucas Duda cranks it up another notch. * Jon Niese is healthy. * Wheeler and d'Arnaud get their feet wet and indicate that they can contribute next year. * The Mets discover an everyday outfielder or two for 2014. Valdespin? Lagares? Ankiel? A mid-season acquisition? Will all of the above happen? Almost certainly not. But if we're able to check off enough of these items, then the preparation for 2014 won't look as daunting as it has been looking.
  16. These 1972 cards they're doing are not in the spirit of the original. They should only include posed shots. Anything not posed for a photographer should be on an IN ACTION card.
  17. I imagine that the interference rule covers this somehow, but if not, there could be some interesting scenarios. Let's say there's a runner on first, and the batter hits a grounder to first. The runner could opt to run for second, or take a chance that he can field the ball, barehanded and with his foot on the base before the gloved and free-ranging first baseman can. If he takes this risk and is rewarded, he can then throw the ball into a gap in the outfield and hope to get to third base.
  18. Interesting! Thanks! (Who's Roy? Was he the outfielder?)
  19. The only reason I gave him less than six points was because he only went 7.1 innings.
  20. What's the story behind this? What are they reacting to?
  21. The Marlins have now lost nine games in a row, and their winning percentage has dropped to .241. They currently project to finish the season with a record of 39 and 123. The last time I checked in, the Mets had the third worst record in baseball, slightly behind the Cubs and ahead of only the Marlins and Astros. The current five-game winning streak has changed that. They're now at .431, and better than the Marlins, Astros (.315), Brewers (.365), Cubs (.423), Dodgers (.423), Mariners (.426), Blue Jays (.426), and tied with the Royals. The Mets weren't supposed to be better than the Dodgers and Blue Jays, were they?
