Ooooh! Such intrigue! Maybe Ron Gardenhire would be interested in being the Mets starting shortstop in 2014. Let's all say it together now: "He can't be any worse than what we already have."

Atchison 1 Davis 1 Hawkins 1 Lagares 3 Mejia 1.75 Torres 1.25 Young 1

Ike Davis batting cleanup. Sheesh.

I would think that he'd at least get the 50 games that everyone else is getting. My guess is that he ends up missing the first couple of months of 2014, but not the entire season.

It’s been a rough season for the former Wyoming standout. After streaking to a .322 batting average in the month of April... Does that mean that he played naked in April?

I think his nickname should be "Mrs. Flintstone".

The Daily News this morning had a full eight (or maybe ten) pages devoted to this. I read the article about Jordanny and skipped the forty articles about Rodriguez.

I'll guess 17, but I'd like it to be 8 or 24.

Voting for all three games played against the Royals at Citi Field this past weekend will close on Wednesday afternoon some time after 2 p.m. The middle game of the series has only three votes so far. Schaefer POTG 8/2/13 - Mets 4, Royals 2 (11 Innings) Schaefer POTG, 8/3/2013: Royals 4 Mets 3 (12) Schaefer POTG, 8/4/2013: Royals 6 Mets 2

Try Ron Cey.

I'm waiting for Valadius to drop by to exclaim how this vindicates Piazza.

Here's how Gee and Harvey earned their points in July. I don't think he should have taken the grief back then. Sure, I was disappointed that the Mets bailed so quickly, but Texas came along with a blow-everyone-out-of-the-water offer. I can't say that the Mets should have topped that.

SCHAEFER METS PLAYER AND PITCHERS OF THE MONTH, JULY 2013 The Schaefer Mets Player of the Month for July 2013 is first-time winner MARLON BYRD. Marlon hit .336 in July, leading the Mets with 5 homers, 39 hits, 20 runs, and 3 triples. He tied with Daniel Murphy for the team lead in runs batted in, with 20. Byrd had an OBP of .361 in July, and a slugging percentage of .569. The Schaefer Mets Pitcher of the Month for July is DILLON GEE, who has finally broken the strangehold that Matt Harvey held on the title for the entire 2013 season so far. Dillon was 1-1 in July with a 2.88 ERA in five starts and 34.1 innings. This is the second time that Gee has been the Pitcher of the Month. His previous title was in September 2010. The Schaefer Mets Relief Pitcher of the Month is, for the fourth time overall, and second time this season, BOBBY PARNELL. Bobby pitched in 14 games in July. He had 8 saves. 14 strikeouts, and a 0.60 ERA in 15 innings. The Schaefer Mets Bench Player of the Month for July is first-time winner ANDREW BROWN, edging Kirk Nieuwenhuis (who finished the month in Las Vegas) by a razor-thin 0.01 points. (Brown scored 1.74 Schaefer points as a bench player in July, while Nieuwenhuis totaled 1.73.) By next month, we will retroactively include the award winners for 2006 and 2007 for the relievers, and for 2006 through 2011 for the bench players. We would have done this sooner, but we've been battling a legal challenge from Brian Stokes' attorney. Our CPF Schaefer voting began in 2005, but because of the EZBoard meltdown, detailed information from 2005 is unavailable. 2006 is as far back as we can go.
