  1. Because of the Fourth of July holiday, we'll give these games a little extra time. All three games from the Mets weekend series against Washington will close on Friday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 6/28/13 - Nationals 6, Mets 4 Schaefer POTG 6/29/13 - Mets 5, Nationals 1 Schaefer POTG, 6/30/2013: Nats 13 Mets 2
  2. It's funny how familiarity can breed contempt. I certainly have more disdain for the Phillies and the Eagles than I would if I didn't live in the Philadelphia suburbs.
  3. I agree with both previous posts. It will probably be short-term, and I think a position player will go down. They probably just want a few more arms in the bullpen for the next week or so. Lyon had been doing well, then is suddenly awful. Either he's going through a slumpy spell, or there's some ailment that we don't yet know about.
  4. Buck 0.5 Byrd 1 Gee 4 Hawkins 0.5 Murphy 2 Quintanilla 0.5 Torres 1 Young 0.5
  5. Voting for the Mets win in Denver on Thursday will close Tuesday afternoon, some time after 2 p.m. Schaefer POTG 6/27/13 - Mets 3, Rockies 2
  6. Harvey 5 Satin 3 Byrd 1 Wright 1
  7. I agree that more Recker and less Buck is the easiest solution, and one well worth trying.
  8. ...fuming at his neighbor's tree.
  9. I agree that trading Byrd is probably the wisest move, but I'm not convinced that he can't be a contributor to a 2014 contending Mets team, if such a thing should come to pass. He's certainly not a long-term answer in any way, but he could, maybe, be something like what Ray Knight was in 1986.
  10. The Mets lost 3-2 to the Dodgers in Los Angeles on May 8, 1979. Since that loss, the Mets have a .500 regular-season record, 2,714 wins and 2,714 losses.
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Is there a fast way of telling, though the IMDB, what the earliest date is from which that the Mets have a .500+ record? I'll have to think about that. Maybe. (I'll assume you mean the UMDB, by the way.)
  12. I think a large part of it is that Omar has been playing like he wants to be there (you know Terry likes "energy") and Ruben was, in many ways, going through the motions.
  13. Voting for Wednesday night's win in Chicago will close on Monday morning, some time after 10 a.m. Schaefer POTG 06/26/2013, Mets 3, White Sox 0
  14. Terry says that when Ruben gets healthy, he's going to Las Vegas or Binghamton, and that he's going to have to win his job back from Omar Q.
  15. G-Fafif wrote: Plus 1 for Zach Lutz. Right. I haven't pasted last night's box score into the UMDB yet.
  16. Number of games started at third base for the Mets since July 21, 2004: David Wright 1335 Justin Turner 37 Daniel Murphy 25 Fernando Tatis 24 Chris Woodward 8 Mike Hessman 5 Willie Harris 5 Julio Franco 4 Ronny Cedeo 2 Ty Wigginton 1 Damion Easley 1 Jos Valentin 1 Ruben Gotay 1
  17. G-Fafif wrote: An entire generation of Mets fans has come along with little idea every third base debut would earn a note in the game story in which it occurred. I do remember that! I wonder, when did it stop? Has it been since David Wright took over?
  18. More than blind? Like maybe he has a radar sense or something?
  19. Byrd 3.8 Hawkins 1 Hefner 2.5 Murphy 0.7 Parnell 1 Rice 1
