  2. Voting for Monday afternoon's game in Minnesota will close on Thursday afternoon, some time after 2 p.m. Schaefer POTG 8/19/13 - Mets 6, Twinkies 1
  3. Isn't there some rule that says that if a player is released before March 31, the team only has to pay a portion of his contract? Obviously, that doesn't apply to multi-year contacts, but I think it does apply to one-year deals. It's possible that such a rule, if it ever existed, may no longer be in effect.

  5. If he was a starting pitcher, I'd say go for it. They can use a throw-away veteran starter to get them through the end of the season, with Mejia and Hefner out and Harvey and Wheeler approaching their "innings limits." Is Doc Medich available?
  6. Word is that Hefner may need Tommy John surgery. If so, he's a sure thing to stay in the Mets organization, albeit on the disabled list, through the 2014 season.
  7. Voting for the five games listed below will close on Wednesday afternoon, some time after 2 p.m. The game from August 16 is particularly low on votes, with only three people having weighed in so far. Lefty Specialist wrote: I was against re-signing Byrd for a long time, but considering the dearth of outfield talent in the near-term pipeline, I wouldn't be against re-upping him for another year. Even two if it wasn't expensive. The expense is the rub. If they could bring him back for a year or two at his current salary, I'd be all for it. The problem is, his salary is certain to go up, and there's a good chance this his production will go down. It's not an easy call.
  11. I didn't know that photo appeared on a real baseball card! (I like my version better, I have to say.) I'll kick off the quiz by saying... John Milner. The earliest Met in my memory to hit 20 homers.
  12. Stop entirely? Probably not. But go to fewer games, watch fewer games, spend less money? Definitely.
  13. It may or may not be large, but it surely exists.
  14. but this just feels like one of those things people like to be pissed off about but doesn't really affect anyone. It affects everyone who goes to bed before the game ends, because it's running too late. HUGE issue for the post season, at least in the Eastern Time Zone.
  15. That's all true, but on the other hand, if games are too long, people may be inclined to leave the game early, or turn it off and go to bed before the game ends. Once you realize that you're okay with not staying up to see the end of a playoff or World Series game, the next logical step is to realize that you're okay with not watching at all.
  16. Young 1.5 Murphy 1 Davis 1
  17. Flores, d'Arnaud, Lagares, Mejia. There may be a lot of future in this starting lineup tonight.
  18. I keep confusing Jaff Decker with Jeff Dacker.
