  1. Will they call on Parnell for the save? I'm guessing yes.
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: 'twould be a good inning for Mr. Granderson to announce hisself in Queens The statement from Juan Lagares has its appeal, though.
  3. I have Strasburg at 84 pitches through 5 innings, and Gee at 77 pitches through 6.
  4. Gee: 66 pitches through five innings. Maybe they'll be able to get seven or eight out of him.
  5. I don't see why there should be any controversy about this.
  6. National Weather Service wrote: A slight chance of rain before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 49. North wind around 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Doesn't sound like the most pleasant conditions to watch a game, but it doesn't seem that we need to worry about a rainout.
  7. I agree. The flight may be a bit longer, but I imagine there are plenty of airline flights between New York and Las Vegas.
  8. Actually, not that long at all. The last time there was only one new Met making his Opening Day debut in the starting lineup was 2012, with Andres Torres. In 2009, there was nobody! Other years with only one: 2007 Moises Alou 1998 Tim Spehr 1997 John Olerud 1991 Vince Coleman 1990 Mike Marshall 1987 Kevin McReynolds 1982 George Foster 1980 Jerry Morales 1973 Felix Millan 1971 Bob Aspromonte 1970 Joe Foy 1969 Rod Gaspar Other years with none: 2001, 1989, 1988, 1986, 1984, 1983, 1981, 1977, 1976, 1974
  9. I think they do, yes. Flores, perhaps?
  10. I think it should go by the lineup position, but I don't think that's universally accepted. My feeling is that they're officially in the game when they're announced, and the pregame announcements go in lineup order. Fielding a ground ball doesn't put a player "in the game".
  11. On Mets Hot Stove, Murphy said that the baby's name will be Noah. After Russell Crowe, not after Noah Syndergaard.
  12. The all-time number of Mets players was 968 at the close of the 2013 season. We'll probably fall a little short of getting to 1,000 this year, but we're almost certain to get there sometime in 2015. Unless I'm overlooking someone, there are five players on the big league roster who have never before played for the Mets: Chris Young, Granderson, Colon, Valverde, and Lannan, so we'll soon be at 973.
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Probably. But damn. I was never more certain that some kind of deal would happen before the curtain rose, but just didn't happen. Has it??? Drama It is interesting that we've made it to Opening Day and neither Nick Franklin nor Didi Gregorius has been traded. (And, of course, Stephen Drew is still unsigned.) The lack of that trade you anticipated may be partially explained by the restraint in Phoenix and Seattle.
  14. Intriguing... My guess/fear is that they're evaluating a potential injury to one of the projected starters.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: (2) Young hasn't even been in much practice as a secondbaseman Yeah, but it's his "natural position", whatever that means. I imagine they determine that through DNA testing.
  16. Uh oh! I've been outed as someone who doesn't read the "Who am I?" thread!
  17. I didn't know that Art Shamsky was a 1972 Athletic. I mean, I guess I probably did know at one point, but I have no memory of that.
  18. Ceetar wrote: Terry will probably swap Davis And Curtis for the R/L/R thing. Maybe. But if the idea is to protect David Wright, having a .160 hitter follow him in the batting order isn't the best idea.
  19. You're right! I was thinking that Hojo joined the Mets in 1984, but no, it was 1985.
  20. G-Fafif wrote: Grimm 6.0 For keeping this thing on track into a tenth year. Thank you! It's hard to believe it has lasted this long.
  21. Gwreck wrote: Is this where I make my annual plea to leave the voting threads open longer? Love the process but sometimes it's not possible to get all the votes in. In the past I've seen that the majority of votes come quickly, but as an experiment I'll start the season keeping the threads open for three business days instead of two. So Monday's opener will close on Friday instead of Thursday.
  22. I think it's about the innings; they'll use him sparingly in April and May so that he can last the season. That's my guess, anyway.
  23. metsmarathon wrote: i promise to try not to fall offa tha wagon in august again... It's been hard to pay close attention in August these last few years. Maybe, with luck, this will be a different kind of August.
