  1. Dodgers crowd chanting "We want Utley! "
  2. "And it's all because of Murphy and his heads- up baserunning."
  3. It's more about what we might expect in the innings to come.
  4. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Do you pinch hit to start the 3rd? Or if you retire Gonzo do you feel he earned something? I'm wondering the same thing.
  5. I've had more than enough of Justin Turner.
  6. Do I dare wish for a double play grounder?
  7. I do kinda wish Conforto and Duda had their lineup spots switched.
  8. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Lucas needs to stop swinging at bad pitches. I know any runs off Greinke are big, but I feel like we should have gotten another one there. Yeah, I know. But if we get one run each inning we'll be in pretty good shape. That triple by Murphy was the first in Mets NLDS history.
  9. I was really happy for about two seconds there, until I got to the "bupkis" part. Oh well. Maybe the Mets will make up for it with a few hours of baseball-related happiness tonight.
  10. Well, yes. They do what it takes to win. And if they do win the 40-inning game with six exhausted starters, then you activate Gilmartin or Verrett to start on Saturday.
  11. I would think so. If both of them go three innings, for example, and the Mets win, then Saturday is either Matz on short rest (unlikely) or Colon or Niese.
  12. I think I may fear Terry's pitching changes as much as I fear Zack Greinke.
  13. Content aside, this thread's title is my favorite in CPF history. I wonder if we can get Cal Ripken to play along with a gag? Have him show up on CF's doorstep. Let's say the kids answer the door and say, "It's Baltimore Oriole legend and Hall of Famer Cal Ripken!" And Cal says, "Yes, kids, that's right! And I'm here to eat your daddy's asshole!" You know, this reminds me: Isn't this the way the Brady Bunch episode with Don Drysdale played out?

  15. My current understanding is that if Terry needs a long reliever, Syndergaard gets called on first. Hopefully that would include extra innings; if Noah comes in late in a tie game, I'd try to get about four (or more) innings from him if necessary.

  17. As much as the Mets have reason to fear Greinke, the Dodgers have reason to fear deGrom. Either one can outpitch the other. I give the Dodgers a bit of an advantage because of the inherent advantage a home team has when the game is tied in late innings. And also since, because of the stupid save rule, Terry might hold off on using Familia until the 40th inning, if necessary.

Holmes happened to be there because he worked for the Mets front office at the time. Well, not exactly. As stated above, he didn't tie Wee Willie Keeler at Shea. (Keeler had the all-time National Leage record with 44 games.) At Shea he passed Tommy Holmes, who had the "modern" (meaning 20th Century) record of, I think, 37 games.
  19. I just want to say that I very much appreciate that there's a travel day. I am enjoying my day off from all this intensity before we leap back into the fray tomorrow. I just hate that tomorrow may be the last baseball game I watch until April. I've been enjoying this ride and I'm not ready for it to end. Come on, Mets... let's keep the party going!
  20. It used to be that way with Tim McCarver too. He'd tell us that an outfielder was playing too deep right before a single would be plunked down in front of him.
  21. I just noticed this avatar: Under that Mr. Met head is Late Show With David Letterman stage manager Biff Henderson.
