  1. No surprise there.
  2. I really wanna go to bed happy tonight!
  3. The Pile of Poo emoji was approved as part of Unicode 6.0 in 2010. I no longer understand the world I'm living in.
  4. Maybe Ripken is intentionally saying stupid things because he wants the Washington manager job, and knows that stupidity is a key qualification.
  5. I cope with them by not listening too closely. Like a five-year-old child, I hear but don't listen.
  6. I think the only limit in effect for Harvey for the postseason is that he'd only get five starts. So one in the NLDS, and potentially two each in the NLCS and World Series. So he could start Game 1 of either best-of-seven, but he wouldn't be on one of those aggressive schedules where he pitches Games 1, 4, and 7.
  7. Well, it depends on if the Mets win the NLDS in four games or five. If deGrom doesn't have to pitch NLDS Game 5 is available for NLCS Game 1, he's the guy I'd go with. If the Mets are playing the Cubs, I'd then go with Syndergaad in Game 2 at Citi Field. If they play the Cardinals, Game 2 will be in St. Louis, so I'd consider Harvey for that game and Syndergaard for Game 3 in Queens. If the Mets win on Thursday instead of tonight, then yes, I'd consider Harvey for Game 1.
  8. Do you really want him to do that? I mean, if he was willing, would you let him?
  9. Life, for a Mets fan, is mostly a matter of waiting for other shoes to drop late-season collapses, dropped pop-ups, blown saves. Its a life of giving your payroll to a swindler; your star lefty snipping off the tip of his finger with hedge clippers; your All-Star outfielder and your Gold Glove first baseman throwing punches at each other while posing for the team picture. Its Bobby Bonillas contract and the Seaver trade and the Dykstra trade and a 3-2 curveball that jelly-legs Carlos Beltran with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth. I'm so sick of this kind of crap. If rooting for the Mets makes you miserable, don't do it. These tales of angst-ridden martyrdom don't resonate at all with me.
  10. Maybe they're saying that Utley should have an electric chair in his basement, to tinker with during the offseason.
  11. Any word yet on whether either of the two scheduled starters "slept funny"? I looked up Kershaw starting on three days rest. He's never done it in the regular season, but twice in the postseason. In the 2013 NLDS against the Braves, he pitched Game 4 on three days rest with 6 innings, 2 earned runs after throwing 124 pitches in Game 1. He did the same in 2014. 110 pitches in Game 1 against St. Louis. In Game 4, he went 6 innings, 3 earned runs. He threw 113 pitches on Friday.
  12. Updated through Game 3. My apologies to the late Darryl Hamilton; I inadvertently left him off the "Games Played" list in previous posts. 14. Where's Eric O'Flaherty when you need him?
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Harvey now available for Game Five emergency duty. Interesting. He'll have to clear it with his agent, of course. So now who pitches the ninth? Clippard? Goeddel? Robles? Niese?
  16. If both of my sisters weren't already married, I'd encourage one (or both) of them to marry Curtis Granderson.
  17. Wasn't J.P. Howell also with the 1988 Dodgers?
  18. Mets Guy in Michigan wrote: Given the score, maybe Matt Reynolds can make his debut at some point tonight. I'd like to see Kirk Nieuwenhuis get an at bat. He deserves to get into a postseason game.
  19. After the miserable travesty that Saturday's game was, it's SO nice to be having fun again!
