I'd be surprised if they didn't at least invite Warthen and Long to return.

It could very well be dehydration. Something like this happened to me once a few years ago (although not at a press conference!) and I got everything checked out and I was fine. I was just told not to let myself get dehydrated. The thing is, sometimes you don't realize you're dehydrated until you find yourself lying on the floor with people peering down at you. (A good clue to dehydration is dark-colored urine, but unless you've peed recently, you're not likely to know the color of the fluid that's in your bladder.)

I'm guessing he'll get $56 million over four years. And I don't think the Mets would match that offer. Three years at the same annual rate? Maybe the Mets would go for that, but I expect Murphy will be able to get a four-year contract somewhere.

But the fact that they chose a photo of him sneering makes it all the better.

I'd say, if you sign Murphy you make sure there's not a no-trade clause. I don't think he becomes five-and-ten until after the 2018 season, so that wouldn't kick in during a three-year contract. My guess is that Murphy is very likely gone. I predict that the Mets will acquire a shortstop and move Flores to second. Herrera may eventually displace Wilmer at second base, but not for a while yet.

I voted for YOU'RE DAMN WRIGHT and THIS JUST GOT WHEEL. Both mainly because the selected photo went well with the theme. PITCH SLAPPED is awful. (Although it currently holds a slim lead.) Cute idea, perhaps, but really amateur photoshopping.

No offense taken. It's totally goofy. It's not at all the intent of this Derby, but I'm hoping it can be a factor in getting some recent returnees to stick around.

Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. David Wright sets the tone for a winning season. Noah Syndergaard takes a poorly timed lunch break. Fred Wilpon chats with Terry Collins about "areas of concern". Zack Wheeler has a tender elbow and will be getting an MRI.

No, the Qualifying Offer option is not available for Cespedes.

I voted for N.Y. CITI because it was the most eye-catching, and MATT SIGNS because I liked the unorthodox angle. I noticed that of all of these early Harvey covers, there's no mention yet of Batman. It will be interesting to see when that first surfaces. (I've collected these covers but haven't analyzed them at all.) I suspect that as we get deeper into the season, it will be a rare Matt Harvey cover that doesn't allude to Batman in some way.

Depends on what else happens, of course. I don't expect that Duda will still be a Met five years from now, but I think he'll probably be around for the next two.

As long as they fill their gaps with top-quality players, I don't care what the payroll is. If the Mets have a subpar team because they're not spending enough, that's a problem. But if they can finish in first place next year with a $110 million payroll, then good for them.

Ceetar yawns a lot. Of the choices above, I prefer the middle ground. Instead of loading the 2016 outfield with free agents, I'd rather see Conforto establish himself as a Mets star over the next six (or more) seasons. Sign Heyward (or someone like him) and a shortstop. And a reliever or two. (And, perhaps, Uribe and Colon.) Move Wilmer to second base and give Dilson a little more time. (He may eventually displace Flores, but I don't want to hand him a starting job just yet.)

If he makes it to the end of this two-year contract, he will have managed more Mets games than anyone in the club's history. (Never would have guess that when he was hired.) Two full seasons would put him at 1,134. Davey Johnson 1012 Bobby Valentine 1003 Terry Collins 810 Passing Davey Johnson in wins is possible, but won't be easy. He'd have to average 101 wins over the next two years. (And how great would that be?) Davey Johnson 595 Bobby Valentine 536 Terry Collins 394 Meanwhile, he's just about certain to become the losingest manager in Mets history. He'll probably pass Davey Johnson and Joe Torre in his first couple of weeks. (Hopefully not sooner than that.) It will take 52 losses to pass Bobby Valentine for the record. And if he avoids 52 losses in 2016, he'll certainly be invited back for 2017. Bobby Valentine 467 Joe Torre 420 Davey Johnson 417 Terry Collins 416

I don't remember, where did we leave off with Montero? Was there something that indicated that he wasn't too enthusiastic about pitching?

In response to your pointing out the obvious: the Mets are gonna let him go no matter what we say. They'll let him go even if we all wanted him back.
  19. Benjamin Grimm
Really? Huh! I guess there's not much point discussing anything at all then, is there?
  20. Benjamin Grimm
Cutting back on bonehead pitching changes would be a smart step towards that goal.
  21. Benjamin Grimm
    Not surprised. Not pleased.

Yeah, a few weeks ago I was comparing the list of home-grown (meaning never played for any big league team other than the Mets) players from 2006 who were getting their first playoff experience to the those on the 2015 Mets. And the 2015 list is A LOT longer. 2006 had Wright and Reyes. And Maine and Heilman. And Feliciano. And maybe one or two others who I'm forgetting now. But 2015? Harvey. DeGrom. Syndergaard. Matz. Familia. Duda. Murphy. Lagares. Conforto. Flores. Tejada. Robles. Niese. Nieuwenhuis. D'Arnaud. I think I felt a stronger connection to the 2015 team because of this. (The lists in 1986 and 1969 were also longer than the list in 2006.)
  23. Benjamin Grimm
I can see Robles getting a more prominent role. Josh Edgin had his surgery right about when Zack Wheeler had his, right? So he'd also be on track for June or July instead of April.

Vote for the tabloid covers that you like the best. You may select up to three choices. Voting will run for seven days. As spring training begins, Lucas Duda, perhaps uncharacteristically, is confident that he'll have a big year. Matt Harvey shows up, ready to begin his comeback from Tommy John surgery. Curtis Granderson says the Mets can reclaim the affections of New Yorkers. Can Terry Collins live up to higher expectations this year? Harvey throws to hitters for the first time.
  25. Benjamin Grimm
Yeah, but there's a big difference between saying "We'll win Game 2" after losing Game 1 and saying "We'll win the 2016 World Series" after losing the 2015 World Series.
